  • Patent number: 6196013
Abstract: A fan casing for a window type air conditioner adapted to change improve the flow of external air sucked through the fan. The window type air conditioner has an outer panel formed with a plurality of draft holes for suction of external air, and an outdoor casing disposed at an exterior space of the air conditioner for sucked air to be dispersed and discharged into a condenser in response to rotation of an outdoor fan. The outdoor casing is so formed as to be smoothened in corners thereof in slow curvatures. This enlarges the length of the draft holes, thereby increasing a sucked amount of external air and reducing disturbance and resistance of air flow to decrease eddy currents and noise.

Mounted in the outer case is a pair of horizontal metallic rails upon which the unit slides. The rails include sharp projections extending upwardly into contact with a metallic base of the unit to cut through a film, such as paint, disposed on the base, in order to make electrical contact with the base. The unit is thus electrically grounded through the base, rails, and outer case.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to make a housing for a ceiling-mounted type air conditioner small-sized without decreasing the performance and capacity of the air conditioner, and particularly to decrease the length of the housing in the depth direction, thereby facilitating the installation of the air conditioner and improving the room appearance. To achieve the above object, a heat exchanger is bent into a doglegged shape, the bent portion thereof is convex to the air inlet side, and the heat exchanger is inclined so as to be raised on the air inlet side. A cross flow fan rotating around a horizontal axis is disposed on the downstream side of the heat exchanger.

Abstract: An air conditioner having an indoor unit and an outdoor unit which are connected by a refrigerant pipe and electric cables. The indoor unit has a housing, in which a heat exchanger, a fan device and a compressor are arranged. A partition divides the interior of the housing into a fan chamber and a compressor chamber. The fan chamber contains the fan and opens at the front of the housing. The compressor chamber contains the compressor and opens at the back of the housing. Not incorporating the compressor, the outdoor unit is smaller and lighter than otherwise. The indoor unit is secured to the wall of a room, with the back of the housing facing the wall. Hence, the noise the compressor makes while operating does not annoy the persons in the room is much.

Abstract: An indoor unit of an air conditioning system includes front and rear cases joined together to form a space in which a heat exchanger, fan, and fan motor are housed. A grill member hingedly mounted on the front case has a front air intake opening formed therein. A top air intake opening is formed in an upper side of the rear case. A filter is mounted on a rear side of the grill member to extend across the front air intake opening. An upper portion of the filter underlies the top air intake opening. Edges of the front and rear case overlap one another, and one of those edges forms a slot in which the other edge is received. Boards for carrying electrical components are mounted in an out-of-way manner to minimize the space taken up.
