  • Patent number: 5425247
Abstract: A wind direction alteration device for use in an integral type air conditioning apparatus in which the diameter of a connecting shaft of a blade extending through an opening formed in a connecting rod is greater than that of the shaft above and below the opening. The opening of the connecting rod is elongated and constricted in the center thereof. Three or more projections are extending into the opening through which the connecting shaft penetrates. A portion, holding the connecting rod, formed on a shaft of a wind direction alteration motor is disposed beyond a vertical movable range of the connecting rod. A portion, of the connecting rod, which is in contact with the portion of the shaft holding the connecting rod is inclined. A rib is formed on the inner surface of the elongated opening, of the connecting rod, through which the shaft of the wind direction alteration motor penetrates such that the rib is parallel with the direction in which the elongated opening is formed.

  • Patent number: 5392613
Abstract: A room air conditioner of the type having an indoor section and outdoor section which are supported by a basepan and separated by a partition. The indoor section includes an indoor fan and an evaporator. The cold evaporator condenses moisture from the air to be cooled. Means are provided to collect the condensate and to conduct it along a path from the indoor section, through an opening in the partition, at basepan level, to the outdoor section. The opening in the partition has a given height from the basepan which is sufficient to allow condensate flow, and a given width. A hood is provided adjacent to the opening on the outdoor side of the partition wall which extends from the top of the opening downwardly a distance less than the given height of the opening. The hood completely encloses the given width to thereby define a lower edge under which water or air must pass to pass through the condensate opening.

  • Patent number: 5337580
Abstract: A low profile room air conditioner. The low profile is achieved in part by the arrangement of components in its outside section. The fan that moves air through the outside section is of the axial flow type mounted so that its axis of rotation is substantially perpendicular to the base of the enclosure and so that the fan draws air into the outside section through the top of the enclosure. Air discharges from the outside section through an air discharge on a side of the enclosure. Louvers at the air discharge direct the air exiting the enclosure away from the air inlet. A slinger directs droplets of condensate drained from the inside refrigerant-to-air heat exchanger into the air flowing through the outside section. The air carries the condensate on to the outside refrigerant-to-air heat exchanger where it evaporates. The air flow carries the resultant water vapor out of the outside section.

Abstract: A room air conditioner in which separate lateral air outlets are provided for returning chilled air to the room. An air outlet device having horizontal and vertical louvers is provided at the air outlets and both sets of louvers can be pivoted such that the user can independently select a direction for the exiting air streams from a wide range of vertical and horizontal angles. The air outlet devices are preferably modular units which are attached to the air conditioner by means of releasable vertically oriented pivots.

  • Patent number: 5060720
Abstract: The present invention is an air conditioner with tangential blowers having an arrangement for cooling the blower's driving motor. The motor is attached exteriorly from the air moving chamber and the sidewall through which the motor is attached to the blower includes an axially located aperture. Blade extensions of the blower near the aperture induce an air flow through the aperture, and the induced air flow passes through the motor to carry away undesired heat. A seal can be formed between the motor and sidewall so that the induced air flow must pass through the motor.

  • Patent number: 5038577
Abstract: The present invention is an air conditioning unit with indoor and outdoor heat exchanger coils and a pair of dual tangential flow blowers. Air flow is induced through the coils at a uniform rate and exhausted through an outlet. A single scroll dividing wall divides the housing of the air conditioner into indoor and outdoor compartments. The air-conditioning unit has a relatively small depth because the blowers are positioned in vertical alignment. The air intake arrangement on the indoor side is an intended, recessed portion of the cabinet. A removable louvered cover is positioned in an aperture located in the indented, recessed portion for allowing access to the filter.

Abstract: Transport refrigeration apparatus including a condenser section containing an inverted U-shaped refrigerant condenser coil which defines a central opening which functions as a fan chamber having a vertically oriented air discharge side. A propeller fan is disposed in the central opening of the condenser coil which draws air through the condenser coil and discharges it through the vertically oriented discharge side of the opening. A metallic grille is disposed across the air discharge side of the central opening, with the grille having a plurality of horizontally spaced, vertically oriented louvers which straighten the discharge air flow in vertical planes and reduce short circuiting of the discharge air back into the condenser coil. The louvers are spaced by a dimension selected to enable the metallic grille to perform the function of a protective or safety grille across the fan chamber.
