Means Directing Gas Over Heat Rejector Patents (Class 62/428)
  • Patent number: 8079232
Abstract: A heating and/or cooling system for a dwelling, including a heat exchanger that is located indoors, and ducting that directs rejected air to the attic space or outdoors. The heat exchanger is pre-heated and/or pre-cooled with indoor space air, thereby increasing the efficiency of the system. Additionally, a pair of parallel heat exchangers are mounted in the air path of the air handler that forces air in the indoor space of the dwelling. The parallel heat exchangers are connected to conduit through which refrigerant flows between the first heat exchanger, a compressor and an expansion valve. The parallel heat exchangers are mounted in the air path, and because they are heated or cooled to the same extent, they heat or cool the air blowing through them to a greater extent than a conventional heating and cooling system.

Abstract: Fixed part 21 of a shield panel 20 is fixed to a casing 1 in vicinity of a lower edge of an opening 15. In the shield panel 20, a portion of step part 22 adjoining the fixed part 21, flat part 23 and bent part 24 are placed inside the casing 1. Extremity of the bent part 24 is in contact with an inner side surface of the casing 1 in vicinity of an upper end of the opening 15. Thus invasion of flame into the casing 1 through the upper end of the opening 15 is prevented. Besides, gaps as air circulation paths that are formed between side edges of the opening 15 and the flat part 23 of the shield panel 20 provide ventilation in the casing 1 and improve efficiency of cooling electrical components in an electrical component box 10.

Abstract: A multi-zone HVAC&R system has its control programmed to provide diagnostic testing of air handling components and refrigerant components associated with each climate controlled zone in sequence. The control changes the original position of the corresponding component and a resultant change in a relevant operational parameter is sensed. If the actual change is outside of the tolerance band associated with the expected change, then the determination is made that the component under consideration is malfunctioning. The periodicity of a diagnostic procedure for a particular component is typically defined by its criticality and reliability level. If the change in the corresponding operation parameter is recorded and stored in the database, the component degradation can be observed over time and a prognostic prediction can be made when a particular component requires preventive maintenance or replacement.

When it is determined that there is insufficient heat rejected by the indoor heat exchanger to heat the volume of air being delivered by the fan into the conditioned environment, the volume of air supplied to the conditioned environment is reduced by utilizing one of pulse width modulation techniques to cycle the indoor fan motor to reduce the average volume of supplied air. Therefore, a precise control over the temperature of air delivered to the conditioned space is achieved, temperature of the delivered air is increased to the target value, and so-called “cold blow” conditions are avoided.
