Elongated Oval-shaped Slot Patents (Class 623/2.32)
  • Patent number: 8470026
Abstract: A mechanical heart valve apparatus includes a loop-shaped frame defining a valve opening and formed with a pair of transverse slot units and a pair of longitudinal slots; and a pair of valve plates mounted on the loop-shaped frame. Each of the valve plates includes a pair of first studs that are slidably and respectively inserted into the transverse slot units, and a second stud that is slidably inserted into a respective one of the longitudinal slots. The valve plates are pivoted to each other so as to be rotatable relative to each other between a closed position, in which the second studs are disposed adjacent to upper ends of the longitudinal slots, and an opening position, in which the second studs are disposed adjacent to lower ends of the longitudinal slots.

  • Patent number: 8163010
Abstract: A medical device for treating a heart valve may include a master staple and a loop fixed to the master staple prior to deployment of the master staple. The heart valve may be treated with that master staple and loop, and a plurality of follower staples that are independent from the loop prior to deployment of the master staple, by closing the master staple into the valve annulus, such that the point of the loop that is fixed to the master staple is fixed relative to the valve annulus, and engaging the loop with a plurality of follower staples after that closing.

  • Patent number: 7776085
Abstract: An improved knee prosthesis includes a ceramic tibial component for articulation with natural or prosthetic (re-surfaced) femoral surfaces. The ceramic tibial component is provided in the form of a ceramic monoblock adapted for fixation relative to the patient's tibial bone, or alternately in the form of a ceramic bearing insert component carried by a tibial baseplate member which is adapted in turn for fixation relative to tibial bone. In either form, the ceramic tibial component includes at least one upwardly concave articulation surface for movable bearing engagement by a generally convex or condylar shaped femoral articulation surface. The ceramic tibial component provides improved wear characteristics with extended service life.

  • Patent number: 6206918
Abstract: A heart valve prosthesis having improved flow characteristics. A heart valve prosthesis includes a valve body and a pair of leaflet occluders. The valve body includes an interior surface that defines a central passage for blood flow. The pair of leaflet occluders are pivotably mounted in the passage via ears or tabs that are received in recesses formed in the interior surface that defines the central passage. The recesses are formed with sloped sidewalls to improve the blood flow therethrough. The recesses are also formed such that the leaflet occluder ears act against at least two surfaces that limit the motion of the leaflet occluder to provide a more stable movement that is less damaging to blood cells.
