Patent number: 8881550Abstract: A jewelry item has a closure that uses shape memory to provide two stable positions. For example, an earring has a setting and a pin, and the closure closes the pin over the ear. The closure consists of a leaf spring extending outwardly in a first loop part from a first location on the setting and looping back in a second loop part to a second location adjacent the first location on the setting. The loop parts each have shape memory and are set with different remembered shapes. The two different remembered shapes work against each other to flip the closure between two stable positions, a first position in which the closure connects to the pin to close the earring and a second position in which the closure is spaced away from the pin to open the earring. The design is particularly suitable for a huggie style earring.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2012Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: Grand Rainbow International LimitedInventor: Khanh Tan Huynh

Patent number: 7111370Abstract: A sanitary ear clip display member for trying on a pierced-type earring being substantially U-shaped in configuration and having a pin receiving member attached at one end to a movable clip member and the pin receiving member attached at the other end to a second clip member. The ear clip display member also includes a pivot pin and spring member attached to the one end of the pin receiving member; and to one end of the movable clip member. The movable clip member is movable in a spring biased manner from an opened position to a closed position; and the pin receiving member has a pin receiving passageway for receiving a pin of the pierced-type earring therethrough for displaying the pierced-type earring. The clip members and the pin receiving member form the U-shaped configuration for forming a channel therebetween in order to receive an ear lobe therein allowing the user to try on the pierced-type earrings in a sanitary manner.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2004Date of Patent: September 26, 2006Inventor: Stella Daniel

Patent number: 6662598Abstract: A body ornament has first and second positioning arms that are pivotally connected together. The first positioning arm crosses the second positioning arm at first and second crossing points. A generally elongated loop is formed between the crossing points for receiving the body part. The size of the loop is adjustable by pivoting the positioning arms either toward or away from each other. The positioning arms are preferably biased toward each other so that a minimal loop size is initially formed. In one embodiment, the pivot joint between the first and second positioning arms includes a pivot pin. A loop is formed at one end of the pin for receiving a decorative item. In a further embodiment, the pivot joint is in the form of an integral hinge that biases the first and second positioning arms toward each other.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2001Date of Patent: December 16, 2003Inventor: Theresa Meehan
