    Abstract: A plunger for intermittently delivering counterblow air to a gob glass at a formidable temperature in a blank mold of an I.S. glass container forming machine being operated on the blow and blow process. The plunger comprises a fixed annular member with an enlarged recess at an inlet end and a valve seat at an upper end. The plunger has a sliding valve member with an annulus of the annular member, and the valve member has a stem portion and an enlarged valve seat portion at a free end thereof. The plunger further has a collar threadably and adjustably secured to the stem portion of the sliding valve member, and the collar, which is slidable within the recess of the annular member, has a plurality of air flow passages extending therethrough. Pressurized air is intermittently delivered to the recess of the annular member through an inlet line, which as an on/off valve therein.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for forming glass containers by the blow and blow process in which a parison mold and blow mold are positioned relative to each other, such that parisons can be transferred by an invert arm. The parisons are formed with their necks down in the parison mold from a charge of glass delivered thereto, and vacuum is applied to the neck mold to settle the molten glass in the neck mold about a special neck pin to thereby form the finish portion of the container. The neck pin is pulled and counterblow of the charge into parison form is accomplished and the parison is transferred from the parison mold to the blow mold where it is expanded into final shape. The parison mold is coated with a "solid film lubricant" which provides a surface that has an insulating effect and requires less "swabbing" over its useable life.

    Abstract: An improved method is disclosed for forming glass bottles by the blow and blow process. A parison mold having a one-piece annular blank mold section and split neck and shoulder mold sections is charged fully with molten glass. Air is subsequently blown through a manifold covering the upper end of the parison mold to force the molten glass into an annular space defined by a cavity in the neck mold section and a neck pin projected into the neck mold cavity. The neck pin is then reciprocated from the neck mold cavity, and air is blown through the molded neck to cause the molten glass to chill its surface by pressure contact with the inside of an upright truncated pyramidal-shaped cavity formed in the blank mold section. The glass which comes into contact with the cavity walls in the blank mold section develops a very uniform enamel due to the uniform cooling achieved with the solid annular blank mold section.

    Abstract: In apparatus for molding glass into hollow-shaped articles such as glass containers, glass is delivered to a parison mold wherein the glass is shaped either by a plunger or by a counter-blow with the end of the parison mold, through which the glass is delivered, closed by what is termed a "baffle." The mechanism for moving the baffle on a conventional IS machine must be capable of moving the baffle from an upper, radially displaced position, to a lower aligned position over the mold. The operation of the baffle seating motion is accomplished by the use of a vertically reciprocable, fluid-operated motor in which a baffle arm carrying piston rod of the motor is turned about its axis during its upward and downward movement. The control of the fluid supply to the motor and the exhaust from the motor is such that the rate of movement is monitored and controlled.
