Patent number: 11964897Abstract: The insulated glass unit (IGU) that replicates a historic glass window includes a single simulated divided light glass pane, a low-e glass layer, and spacer grills disposed therebetween. True divided light glass window panes are scanned to obtain surface characteristic data, subsequently used to design a pane that includes slumped areas corresponding to the unique topological characteristics of antique glass, separated by flat areas. The flat surfaces provide for sealing the IGU with the spacer grills, while the optics of the original historic glass are preserved via the slumped areas. A mold of the designed pane is then 3D printed in furan resin sand, and a glass layer is melted over the mold to create a one-piece pane that includes the antique features. Accurate replication of these windows enables historic building renovation with modern insulated windows with less sealing while retaining the original appearance, providing improvements in longevity and efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2021Date of Patent: April 23, 2024Assignee: The Cooper Group, LLCInventor: Brian M. Publication number: 20100031704Abstract: A method and machine for obtaining bent glass sheets. Glass sheets are brought to their softening temperature, then they are caused to travel over a shaping bed of advancing elements for advancing them which are arranged along a path having a circular arc-shaped profile, the sheets progressively assuming their shape on entering the bed and over a first shaping zone, then being hardened by tempering or cooling in a second zone of the bed until they leave, and then the bent glass sheets thus obtained are recovered. The shaping bed is produced with a profile extending in a circular arc of more than 90°, and, on leaving the shaping bed, the hardened glass sheets are moved in a direction opposite that in which they were fed in.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 15, 2009Publication date: February 11, 2010Applicant: SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS FRANCEInventors: Jacques LECLERCQ, Gilles GARNIER

Publication number: 20090117332Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus and process for forming a monolithic array of glass parts. This invention enables high-precision glass parts of a relatively large size, such as mirrors for a solar concentrator, to be manufactured in an economical manner. A multi-cavity mold prevents warping of a glass sheet during a slumping process by utilizing multiple vacuum ports, which may be supplemented by stiffening features formed in the mold.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 8, 2008Publication date: May 7, 2009Applicant: SolFocus, Inc.Inventors: Jason Ellsworth, Darrel Bailey

Patent number: 7484386Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for controlling a treatment process in safety glass production by means of information representing a load of glass panels. Flat glass panels are conveyed through a heating lehr (2) and a quenching section (22). The treatment process is preceded by using a line camera (6) for reading the information representing a load of glass. This information is used in controlling the treatment process. The load-representing information is supplemented by automated detection of a glass panel's coating or the absence of coating. A glass panel's thickness is also measured. This information about coating and thickness is used in quenching for automated regulation of a quenching time and a blast pressure. Such information is also particularly useful for the automated control of convection heating (3c) included in the heating device.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2005Date of Patent: February 3, 2009Assignee: Glaston Services Ltd. Patent number: 7437892Abstract: One or more sheets, e.g. two glass sheets heated to their deformation temperature are shaped by positioning the sheets on a sheet supporting surface of an outline mold. The outline mold and press face of a shaping member are moved relative to one another to bias the marginal edge portions of the upper sheet against the press face to establish an enclosure around the peripheral edges of the sheets. Vacuum is applied to the peripheral edges of the sheets to pull the air from between the sheets, and from between the press face and adjacent sheet surface as positive or atmospheric pressure is applied to bottom sheet to move the sheets against the press face. Optionally a vacuum can be pulled through passageways in the press face during the shaping of the sheets and pressurized air moved through the passageways after the sheets are shaped to move the sheets away from the press face.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2004Date of Patent: October 21, 2008Assignee: PPG Industries Ohio, Inc.Inventor: William R. Patent number: 7302813Abstract: In a method for bending, in pairs, panes placed one upon the other, heated to their softening temperature, the pair or panes is deposited on a bending frame and prebent under action of the force of gravity. The prebent pair of panes is transferred onto a suction bending mold with a concave forming face, the underside of the lowermost pane being supported at least on the peripheral edge of the forming face. By applying a depression for a predetermined length of time, the air is sucked out of the intermediate space between the underside of the lowermost pane and the suction bending mold, and the pair of panes is pressed by atmospheric pressure onto the concave forming face of the suction bending mold. After the end of the application of the depression, the finished molded pair of panes is transferred from the suction bending mold onto a transport device and is cooled.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2002Date of Patent: December 4, 2007Assignee: Saint-Gobain Glass FranceInventors: Michaël Balduin, Michaël Labrot, Hubert Havenith

Patent number: 7237408Abstract: A mold includes a pair of spaced elongated deformable members and spaced elongated flexible strap members between and connected to the deformable members with the axis of the deformable members parallel to one another and transverse to the axis of the strap members. A set of a plurality of donut rolls spaced from one another along the length of the strap members is provided in the space between adjacent strap members to move a heat softened glass sheet over the strap members and below shaped surface of a vacuum mold. The strap members are moved to lift the sheet off the rolls toward and into contact with the shaping surface. The deformable members are deformed as the flexible members bias the sheet against the shaped surface. Vacuum pulled through the shaping surface maintains the sheet against the shaped surface as the strap members move away from the shaped surface.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2003Date of Patent: July 3, 2007Assignee: PPG Industries, Ohio, Inc.Inventors: Robert G.
