The upper press ring includes pivotal joints that increase adjustability of the forming surface of the upper press ring to the face surface of the inner press.

    Abstract: The mould construction for bending glass sheets includes a framework and support plates on vertical planes, the curvature of the upper edge of the plates essentially corresponding to the desired bending curvature of the glass sheet. On the upper edges of the support plates are slots and pipes forming the mould surface are positioned in the slots. The slots are dimensioned with play with respect to the pipes, but to lock the upward movement of the pipes from the slots. The support plates are supported on the framework in such a way that one end of the mould surface is lower than the other end. The difference in height, that is, the inclination of the mould surface, is dimensioned so as to effect the resting of the edge of the glass sheet placed on the mould against the end stoppers during the bending stage.

According to the invention, at least some of the holes (10) are arranged in at least one groove (11) formed in the mold face of the full-face mold. The grooves (11) according to the invention accelerate considerably the removal by negative pressure of the air between the molding face of the full-face mold (6) and the glass sheet (2) to be bent and thus improve the press bending process.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method of longitudinally deflecting conveyor rolls intended for bending glass panels. The method includes deflecting the conveyor rolls during a glass-panel bending process by turning link member on which the ends of the conveyor rolls are mounted with bearings. In order to turn the link members of each conveyor roll, at least one link member is subjected to a force sufficient for its turning by a position-identifying electric drive. At least the other link member is subjected to a force sufficient for its turning by a second electric drive, which is controlled on the basis of position data provided by the position-identifying electric drive. The present invention relates also to an assembly applying the method for bending glass panels.

    Abstract: In the process for partially shaping, a glass/glass ceramic article (5) is held on a planar support plate (1) by suction. The glass/glass ceramic article is heated to soften it, so that it has a viscosity below 106 dPa·s. After the softening one or more shaping dies (4) is or are moved upward through an opening or respective openings (3) in the support plate to form raised regions in the softened glass/glass ceramic article (5). The suction force is produced by a low pressure in a hollow compartment (2) below the support plate (1) and acts on the glass/glass ceramic article (5) by means of a gap (G) formed between each shaping die (4) and the support plate. Additional openings can be provided in the support plate and/or in one or more of the shaping dies to assist in applying the suction force to the glass/glass ceramic article. After solidification of the softened glass/glass-ceramic article the shaping die or dies (4) is or are withdrawn.

Vacuum is applied to the peripheral edges of the sheets to pull the air from between the sheets, and from between the press face and adjacent sheet surface as positive or atmospheric pressure is applied to bottom sheet to move the sheets against the press face. Optionally a vacuum can be pulled through passageways in the press face during the shaping of the sheets and pressurized air moved through the passageways after the sheets are shaped to move the sheets away from the press face.

The prebent pair of panes is transferred onto a suction bending mold with a concave forming face, the underside of the lowermost pane being supported at least on the peripheral edge of the forming face. By applying a depression for a predetermined length of time, the air is sucked out of the intermediate space between the underside of the lowermost pane and the suction bending mold, and the pair of panes is pressed by atmospheric pressure onto the concave forming face of the suction bending mold. After the end of the application of the depression, the finished molded pair of panes is transferred from the suction bending mold onto a transport device and is cooled.

Vacuum pulled through the shaping surface maintains the sheet against the shaped surface as the strap members move away from the shaped surface.

Alternatively, the final hearth bed may have a top surface with a compound curvature, so that the glass sheet is bent under the conditions set by controlling a temperature in a downstream part of the furnace, adjusting the inclination of the lower air blower and/or rotating final hearth bed so as to reverse the upstream and downstream ends thereof.
