With Mold Support Or Carrier Patents (Class 65/359)
  • Patent number: 4448600
Abstract: A mould opening and closing mechanism for opening and closing three moulds simultaneously. Moving means (18, 20) operable to move mould portions (12) is connected to the mould portions (12) via a system of links which serves to equalize the mould closing pressures of the three moulds. The system of links comprises a link (34) centrally connected to the moving means (18, 20) which equalizes the pressure between one mould and a further link (46) and the further link (46) equalizes the pressure between the other two moulds.

  • Patent number: 4295873
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reworking hollow workpieces, illustratively glass lamp bulbs, to a desired dimensional accuracy and optical finish. In the method, a workpiece is placed within a mold having a cavity which defines the desired dimensions. Molten metal, preferably tin, of temperature sufficient to soften the workpiece is introduced into the hollow interior of the workpiece. The static pressure of the molten metal forces the softened workpiece into contact with the interior surface of the mold thereby imparting to the workpiece the desired dimensions. Molten metal of lower temperature is then introduced into the workpiece from a lower interior portion thereof, displacing the molten metal of high temperature out of the workpiece. The newly introduced molten metal cools the workpiece so that it may be handled without deforming. The molten metal is then removed from the interior of the workpiece and the workpiece is removed from the mold.

  • Patent number: 4222762
Abstract: A glassware forming machine comprises a carriage, a blank station at which parisons are formed in upwardly open parison moulds from gobs of molten glass, and a further station, the carriage being reciprocable in a straight line between the blank station and the further station in order to transfer parisons from the blank station to the further station. The carriage has a neck ring mould comprising neck ring parts and a guide ring which defines the sealing surface of the finish of each parison. The guide ring is biased upwardly by spring-loaded members which raise the guide ring when the carriage is at the further station in order that the guide ring should clear the released parisons on return movement of the carriage to the blank station.

  • Patent number: 4222761
Abstract: A preferred glassware forming machine has a neck ring carriage for transferring parisons from a blank station A, to a further station B. The carriage is guided for horizontal reciprocatory motion on two spaced, parallel guide rails and carries two relatively movable neck ring parts which engage the necks of the parisons during the transfer of the parisons from station A to station B. Relative movement of the neck ring parts is effected by piston and cylinder devices which are carried by the carriage and which are operated by compressed or suction fluid supplied to the carriage through one or both guide rails, the application of the compressed or suction fluid to one or both guide rails being in timed relationship with movement of the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4134748
Abstract: A mechanism for operating the molds of a glass molding machine. The glass molding machine includes a base and a table rotatably mounted on the base. The glass forming molds are operatively mounted on the rotary table. A plurality of work stations are provided on the base and cooperate to define glass molding cycle for each of the molds. The table is indexed by a drive through a preselected angle by a drive mechanism so that the molds are each moved to each of the work stations. An over the center linkage is provided for normally holding the molds in a closed position. An operating cylinder is at one of the work stations for selectively opening each mold for removal of the formed glass product during the cycle. The indexing drive moves each of the molds past the opening means at least one time during each cycle, each cycle generally being 720.degree., without opening the mold. The linkage also holds each of the molds in the open position for a selected interval for removal of the formed glass product.

  • Patent number: 4065286
Abstract: A press-and-blow container making machine wherein one of two rotary tables supports a set of blank molds receiving gobs from a gob feed and the other rotary table supports a set of blow molds serving to convert parisons obtained from the blank molds into finished containers. An endless flexible conveyor carries neck rings which transport parisons from the first table, past a preliminary treating unit and on to the blow mold. The neck rings also transport finished containers away from the blow molds.

  • Patent number: 4010021
Abstract: An individual section of a multiple section glassware forming machine is shown wherein each such section preferably includes three stations performing separate and sequential operations in forming articles of glassware. Each such section may be adapted for "single gob" or "multiple gob" use whereby each station in the section performs its operation in forming either a single article of glassware or multiple articles at the same time. The section shown is adapted for "double gob" operation. Its first station is utilized in forming (by overhead pressing plungers) two parisons in upright parison molds. Its second station is utilized to further form the parisons either in intermediate blow molds or by suspending the parisons for a re-heat. Its third station is utilized to blow the parisons into the final shape of the glassware article being made.

  • Patent number: 3986858
Abstract: In apparatus for molding glass into hollow-shaped articles such as glass containers, glass is delivered to a parison mold wherein the glass is shaped either by a plunger or by a counter-blow with the end of the parison mold, through which the glass is delivered, closed by what is termed a "baffle." The mechanism for moving the baffle on a conventional IS machine must be capable of moving the baffle from an upper, radially displaced position, to a lower aligned position over the mold. The operation of the baffle seating motion is accomplished by the use of a vertically reciprocable, fluid-operated motor in which a baffle arm carrying piston rod of the motor is turned about its axis during its upward and downward movement. The control of the fluid supply to the motor and the exhaust from the motor is such that the rate of movement is monitored and controlled.
