Multiple-needle Bank Patents (Class 66/64)
  • Patent number: 4081973
Abstract: An improved presser foot device for straight bar knitting machines with double V needle beds, characterized by the fact that means are provided whereby the presser foot can be moved by the program controller of the machine automatically from one to another of two preselected hold down levels, one of which is appropriate for "rib border" knitting and the other for "jersey" knitting. A specific shape of presser foot is also disclosed, comprising a thin, flat configuration including a first wide section located towards the advancing end of the presser foot, a second markedly narrower section connected to the first section at an abrupt change in width and trailing the first section with respect to the advancing direction of the presser foot, and a third section trailing the second section, the third section being wider than the second section and connected to the latter along a gradually tapered section.

  • Patent number: 4080806
Abstract: A knitting machine having two opposed arrays of latched needles arranged in respective flat needle beds and means for actuating the needles of the arrays independently in succession along the arrays, the actuating means being borne by a carriage mounted above and movable back and forth longitudinally along the needle beds, the machine further including an elongated restraining element extending longitudinally between the needle beds, a housing to support and contain the restraining element, the restraining element also extending longitudinally between the needle beds, both housing a restraining element being borne by the carriage on a substantially horizontal support member for movement therewith, the element and the housing being relatively movable longitudinally of the needle beds whereby the element can be brought to an operative position projecting from the housing or to an inoperative position retracted in the housing, and actuator means for causing the restraining element to be in its operative position

  • Patent number: 4080807
Abstract: A needle and needle bed assembly for flat and circular knitting machines for making right-right and left-left knitted articles, includes at least one horizontally-disposed needle bed having a generally concavely-shaped upper surface which has formed therein a plurality of transversely-extending, generally arcuately-shaped grooves, and a plurality of generally arcuately-shaped needles, each of which is slidably supported within one of the grooves of the bed for movement between a push-out position and a drawing-in position, in which positions one end of the needles extends beyond a lateral edge of the bed. The needles are guided in the grooves such that the angle defined between the ends of the needles, as measured by the tangent thereto, and the vertical axis of the bed, decreases as the needles are moved from the drawing-in position to the push-out position.

  • Patent number: 4040275
Abstract: A method of knitting an integral pocket in a knitted garment which includes the steps of knitting the front and rear garment panels of single layer construction, knitting one or more integral pockets by knitting an enclosed tubular area which is completely closed on all sides, said tubular area including a portion of a knit panel, the said tubular pocket being knit to a pattern either conforming with or contrasting from the remainder of the knit panel. The top last course of the knit-in tubular pocket is easily opened by creating a long knitted loop on each end of the top corners of the pocket to permit pulling a thread or yarn from either corner to automatically open the tubular pocket.

  • Patent number: 4027504
Abstract: A stitch presser for a knitting machine equipped with at least two needle beds arranged in an inverted "V", and provided with needles which intersect during their upward movement, a carriage movable above the needle beds, a system for control of the needles during their displacement in alternate directions, and a means for the alternate control of the stitch presser along a row of needles and in another adequate position for the movement in the opposite direction wherein the stitch presser acts between two needle beds on the stitches held by the needles. The stitch presser includes a slide thread for pressing the knitwear and a supplementary means for pressing the stitches against the needle beds.

  • Patent number: 3995452
Abstract: A hand knitting machine having a needle bed, a series of sinkers extending from the front edge of the needle bed, a series of corresponding number of latch needles alternated with the sinkers, an actuator movably supported on the needle bed, and needle selecting means. The needle selecting means has a central sinker on the actuator and at either side of the sinker a selecting cam having a duplicatedly inclined acting cam face inwardly backwardly of the actuator. The needle selecting means further has a control means to selectively restrain the needles from being subject to the selecting cam, whereby all the needle are divided into two groups each time the actuator travels in either direction on the needle bed.

  • Patent number: 3973416
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a stitch press movement mechanism for a knitting machine having at least two needlebeds. The movement mechanism is based upon the rotational movement of a serrated wheel in engagement with a single rack. The movement or change of positions of the stitch press slide blocks is accomplished by the interaction and cooperation between a lever attached to the stitch press and a lug and a raised bearing surface located on the serrated wheel. The stitch press movement mechanism disclosed is particularly advantageous because it eliminates a number of the blows or jolts received by the fragile stick press slide blocks and thus promotes longer equipment life.
