Patent number: 5917118Abstract: An apparatus and method for the dyeing raw cotton fibers in a continuous wet process includes cleaning raw cotton fibers, aligning and forming a cotton batt, and then providing the cotton batt to a continuous wet process dye system. The continuous wet process system includes a dye applicator, a steamer, a first rinser, an oxidizing applicator, a second rinser, and a finish rinser. The batt is conveyed at ambient temperature and pressure along a series of conveyor belts through the system, first being immersed in the dye solution in the dye applicator. The dye solution is an aqueous solution of dye, alkali, penetrant, and a solubilizer. After a short immersion in the dye solution, the batt is conveyed to a set of squeeze rollers which squeeze excess dye solution from the cotton. The cotton is then moved through a steamer to fix the dye, through a first rinser, and then through a second set of squeeze rollers to remove water. The oxidation process which occurs in the oxidizing applicator further fixes the dye.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1997Date of Patent: June 29, 1999Assignee: Shelby Yarn CompanyInventors: Sidney H. Patent number: 5791165Abstract: The small finishing installation (100) for continuous strips of textile fabric includes a steam-filled housing (2) into which feed rolls (5) can be introduced at each end. Located in the housing are sets of fabric-handling equipment disposed symmetrically with respect to the vertical plane (40) running across the middle of the housing (2). Disposed in this vertical plane (40) is a squeezer unit (37) from which the strip of fabric can pass, against each feed roll (5), through a treatment bath (30) and then over an array (20) of guide rollers disposed above an open tank (26). The continuous strip of fabric (10) can be wound back and forth between the feed rolls (5), thus making it possible to carry out a variety of different treatments.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1997Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: Eduard Kusters Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. Patent number: 5195201Abstract: A web of textile material which is to be permeated with a liquid is caused to move upwardly through the nip of two squeezing rolls which serve to expel air and/or moisture and are immediately adjacent a liquid bath. The freshly squeezed increments of the web act not unlike sponges and thus accept substantial quantities of liquid, and the surplus of liquid is expelled from the web by two rolls which are installed above the bath and define a nip of variable width. If necessary, the web can be contacted by a suitable wetting agent on its way toward the nip of the squeezing rolls.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1991Date of Patent: March 23, 1993Assignee: Karl Menzel Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG.Inventor: Waldemar Schlicht

Patent number: 5149372Abstract: A six-roll impregnator applies resin to only one side of a fabric. The resin is then pressed through the fabric, after which a pair of rolls squeezes excess resin from the fabric. In this manner, no air is entrapped within the fabric during the impregnation process.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1990Date of Patent: September 22, 1992Assignee: PMC, IncInventor: Frank E. Ives

Patent number: 4862713Abstract: An apparatus for supplying liquid to an elongated liquid reservoir in a uniform manner over the length of reservoir comprises a trough, extending transversely over the width of a continuous fabric web, into which a liquid is poured from above, and a feed pipe extending longitudinally along the trough. Short, identically formed, curved tubes are uniformly distributed over the length of the feed pipe and arranged to extend transversely therefrom. The liquid is supplied over the length of the liquid reservoir from the short tubes disposed at a plurality of sites along the reservoir. The cross sectional area of the feed pipe may be significantly greater than the total cross sectional of all of the curved tubes to prevent a significant pressure drop.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1988Date of Patent: September 5, 1989Assignee: Eduard Kusters Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4587813Abstract: An apparatus for applying a foamed treatment material such as size to a textile material such as threads as the latter passes between a pair of drive rollers includes a frame which forms a pocket for the size above the rollers with the rollers forming the bottom of the pocket. A guide projects down into the pocket toward the line of contact between the drive rollers and the threads pass through a passage in the guide so that the threads are shielded from the size in the passage and only the lengths of thread between the lower end of the guide and the drive rollers are exposed to the size. In order that the application of size to the threads is comparatively uniform, the guide is raised and lowered in response to the speed of travel of the threads so that longer lengths are exposed at faster speeds and shorter lengths are exposed at slower speeds.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1984Date of Patent: May 13, 1986Assignee: Reed-Chatwood, Inc.Inventor: George R. Patent number: 4484369Abstract: The disclosure relates to techniques for high efficiency drying of wet-processed tubular knitted fabric. The wet tubular fabric is initially spread to flat form and then guided in a controlled manner over a so-called Mach nozzle, at which high velocity gaseous medium, usually steam, at speeds approaching the speed of sound and above, is discharged directly through the fabric, which is maintained in tension as it passes over the nozzle outlet. The thus treated tubular knitted fabric, now with a greatly reduced liquid content, is then immediately directed over a second spreader device, which distends the fabric widthwise to a predetermined, uniform width, to restore the fabric width lost during wet processing and during the relatively high tension nozzle treating operation. In this damp, geometrically stabilized condition, the fabric may be directed immediately into an otherwise conventional tensionless dryer for tubular knitted fabric, where the necessary final drying operations are completed.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1983Date of Patent: November 27, 1984Assignee: Samcoe Holding CorporationInventors: Edmund A. Patent number: 4213217Abstract: A process for continuously washing a printed textile sheet-like structure, wherein water or a wash liquor is applied to the goods so that they entrain from 80 to 500% of water, based on the weight of the goods, the goods are then squeezed off between rollers so as to remove at least 30% of water, based on the weight of the goods, and the surface-swollen print paste residues are transferred from the goods to the roller, from which they are removed by means of water. The treatment can be repeated one or more times, and a conventional afterwash can be carried out if appropriate. The process is cheaper than conventional processes and only slightly affects the color of the unprinted areas.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1978Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Assignee: BASF AktiengesellschaftInventors: Alfred Kretschmer, Wilhelm Ruettiger, Albrecht Wuerz
