Patent number: 8793963Abstract: A method for laying a floor covering onto a floor in a cabin of a vehicle comprises the steps of applying a connection means to an element of a group comprising the floor covering and a floor, compacting the floor covering into a compact unit having an open end, bringing the floor covering into the cabin, pulling the open end of the floor covering along a length of the cabin beneath seats disposed in the cabin on the cabin floor and connecting the floor covering to the cabin floor using the connection means. The connection is made by way of one or more adhesive layers, for example. In this way, a carpet floor can be laid or replaced in a cabin of a vehicle without having to remove the seats located in the cabin.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2009Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Airbus Operations GmbHInventor: Johannes Gonnsen

Patent number: 7318367Abstract: A carpet installation tool capable of being used to crease and tuck carpets in a wide variety of locations, including those difficult to access. The tool includes a handle that defines a longitudinal axis of the tool and a head disposed at one end of the handle. The handle has a longitudinal length sufficient to accommodate at least one hand of a user. The head has a neck portion adjacent the handle, a heel portion adjacent the neck portion, and a toe portion adjacent the heel portion. The neck portion extends at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the tool, and has a length sufficient to accommodate a hand of the user. The heel portion is adjacent the neck portion so that a heel edge defined thereby is offset from the longitudinal axis of the tool in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis. The heel and toe portions define a distal edge that extends in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the tool.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2005Date of Patent: January 15, 2008Inventor: Gary Billings

Patent number: 6964075Abstract: A bi-directional carpet trimmer and tucker tool has recesses receiving blades in a generally horizontal or slightly angled orientation. The blades and recesses have structure to inhibit rotational and translational movement of the blades in the tool. The tool also has a trailings guide engaging trailings trimmed from an edge of carpet to be tucked. The trailings guide moves the trailings away from at least one tucking wheel along a path generally between a handle and the at least one tucking wheel. This guiding operation inhibits interference of the trailings with tucking and trimming operations.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2003Date of Patent: November 15, 2005Assignee: Quick Tuck, LLCInventor: Charles P. Patent number: 6938292Abstract: The invention is a bi-directional carpet trimmers and tucker. The trimmers may be adjusted or sized to trim the carpet edge to the correct length for tucking. At least two trimmers are provided, one for each direction of operation. The height offset of the trimmers above the carpet trimmer and tucker baseplate may be fixed or may be adjustable to allow for variances in carpet thickness and different depths of the tucking trough. Guides extend from the trimmers to slidingly or rollingly engage the wall or baseboard and to orient the trimmers. The trimmer blades are oriented horizontally. The invention also includes a retrofit trimmer for existing carpet tuckers. The retrofit kit comprises a replacement handle, or grip, with integral or attachable trimmers extending to align with the wheels of existing 3-wheeled carpet trimmers.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2003Date of Patent: September 6, 2005Assignee: Quick Tuck, LLCInventor: Charles P. Patent number: 6026619Abstract: A carpet stay-nail tool for positively holding an area of carpet to a desired location during carpet stretching and laying operations. A basic necessity during carpet laying is keeping a first section of carpet temporarily secured while the balance of the carpet is stretched and fastened to its permanent position. The invention provides a plurality of nails configured together in a row which can be pounded through the carpet into the underlayment. Subsequently, the invention can be easily pried up and reused with no discemable damage to the carpet. For safety and convenience, the tool is configured in nesting pairs of nail rows so the nail points are covered and a second nail row is readily available.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1998Date of Patent: February 22, 2000Inventor: Richard J. Patent number: 5976290Abstract: A novel carpet seaming method and tools for reducing or eliminating seam peaking and profiling is provided. The backing of abutting pieces of carpeting can be reinforced along their respective edges. A staple is supported on an anvil with its legs facing the carpet backing beneath the seam line while a hammer is driven onto the carpet pile and the underlying staple base. The impact of the hammer impales the carpet backing over the legs of the staple, and compresses the staple base against the anvil. The legs can then be forced towards each other to lock the staple in position. The process is repeated along the length of the seam line until a row of staples spaced apart from each other by a predetermined distance and extending from one end of a seam to the other end securely holds the abutting pieces of carpet together to form a seam. After seaming, the carpet may be stretched conventionally and secured to tack strips along the periphery of the area being carpeted.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1997Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: Orcon CorporationInventors: Lea Howard MacDonald, Chris Carl Steeves

Patent number: 5797192Abstract: A guide device for securing carpet to a floor incorporates an elongated main body having an aligning edge portion for positionally aligning with a Z-bar secured to a floor to be carpeted, and an elongated vertical edge element operatively secured to a top surface of the main body and extending parallel to a longitudinal axis of the main body. The vertical edge element is positioned a predetermined distance from the aligning edge portion along an entire length of the main body. In operation, the aligning edge portion of the guide device is positionally aligned with a bend portion of a Z-bar secured to a floor to be carpeted. A carpet to be secured with the Z-bar is laid on top of the Z-bar and the guide device. The carpet is then cut along the vertical edge element of the guide device, wherein a remaining portion of the carpet extends approximately the predetermined distance beyond the bend portion of the Z-bar. Finally, the remaining portion of the carpet is secured underneath the Z-bar.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1996Date of Patent: August 25, 1998Inventor: Michael Curtis

Patent number: 4872231Abstract: An impact blade tool particularly suitable for tucking carpet and the like into tight corners and beneath baseboards, although the impact blade tool has other application. The impact blade tool includes a handle having substantial mass for driving a blade member including a shank or guide portion telescopically mounted on the handle. A spring resiliently biases the handle away from the blade member and a stop limits telescopic movement of the blade member shank portion away from the handle. The blade member and handle have mating impact driving surfaces such that the handle functions as an impact driver for driving the blade member for tucking carpet or other applications. In the most preferred embodiment, the stop also functions as a blade orienting means releasably retaining the blade in a plurality or oriented positions relative to the handle. The blade portion may be configured similar to a conventional carpet tucking tool or an arcuate carpet knife also used for carpet tucking.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1988Date of Patent: October 10, 1989Inventor: Willard Gustavsen

Patent number: 4750226Abstract: A carpet laying tool is disclosed comprising an angular member connected at one end to a carpet wedging, rotatable circular wheel, and at the other end to a carpet compressing, swivelable block member. The tool is used to wedge the carpeting being laid into the juncture of walls and floors, while simultaneously pressing it onto carpeting tack strips or an adhesive, whichever is being used to retain the carpet in place. The tool is used by holding it by the angular member and placing it horizontally on the carpeting, adjacent and at a slight angle to a wall, so that the wheel and block are both in contact with the carpeting. A downward force is then applied in the direction of the angle of tool disposition, and the tool is moved along the juncture in the direction of the wheel, simultaneously forcing the carpeting into the area of the juncture, and onto the tack strip or adhesive.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1986Date of Patent: June 14, 1988Inventor: Robert G.
