Electrical Connection Forming Or Wire Preparation Patents (Class 7/107)
  • Patent number: 6618885
Abstract: A wire-stripping tool that has a pair or more of cutters sized for one gauge of wire. For example, instead of be able to strip 18, 16, 14, 12, and 10 gauges of wire, the device has cutters that strip 18, 12, 12, and 10 gauges of wire. Other variations include designs that can strip up to four wires of the same gauge. With this tool, a user can place two or more wires into the cutters and strip them at the same time. The number of bending holes can be increased to coincide with the number of wires capable of being stripped simultaneously. Slots may also be added instead of, or in conjunction with, the bending holes. Specific strippers can be designed for specific combinations of wire sizes and cables. In this way, the labor required to prepare wires can be cut down significantly.

Abstract: A pair of pliers for compression connecting a connector for a telephone line, the pliers have a compression connecting block connected with a limiting pin inserted in a limiting hole generally of a triangular shape on one handle of the pliers, the upper edge of the limiting hole is an abutting edge bevel relative to a push guiding edge of the limiting hole, when the abutting edge contacts and presses the limiting pin, the contact point between them is located beside the center of the limiting pin toward the direction where an action force directs to. So that the component force of a resisting force from the center of the limiting pin toward the contact point is at the same side as that of the action force. Thereby, the horizontal component force of the action force can be reduced; the abrasion that the horizontal force component may make on the guiding groove can be lowered.

  • Patent number: 6198049
Abstract: Ends of several electrical wires are joined by a connector which is twisted onto the wire to a predefined torque level by using a unique tool socket. The connector has a body with closed end and an open end for receiving the electrical wires. At least a portion of the hollow body has an equilateral polygonal cross section shape formed by side surfaces which meet at corner sections. The tool socket includes a coupling through which torque is applied and has an aperture for receiving the connector. The aperture has a cross-sectional shape such that the tool socket engages only the connector corner sections and a space exists between the connector side surfaces and the socket. That engagement concentrates torque applied by the tool socket to the connector which causes the corner sections to round upon application of more than the predefined torque level, thus preventing excessive torque from being applied to the connector and the wires.

Abstract: For removing coating material from an end (5) of a fiber ribbon (1) over a length L, while using a chemical softening agent, the end is received and clamped between clamping parts (9, 35) of a holder. The clamping parts form a casing wall of a space in which the fiber ribbon with the end extends inwardly over said length L. Softening agent is supplied into the space via a supply opening (47), and brought into contact with coating material of the end, preferably via a layer of material (49) soakable for the softening agent. Adjacent to the point where the end extends inwardly through the wall formed by the clamping parts, scoring knives (33, 43) are mounted for scoring the coating material. One of the clamping parts is provided with an exhaust opening (51) for exhausting surplus softening agent. After softening the fiber ribbon (1) is withdrawn, with the end clamped, from holder (9).

Abstract: A combination pliers structure for cutting and skinning wires including a press handle mechanism having an elbow means for controlling an inner jaw means and an outer jaw means. The outer jaw means in located adjacent to the inner jaw means. In use, the press handle mechanism is suitably pressed so that a cutter at a front end of the inner jaw means cuts into the skin of the wire while the outer jaw means clamps the wire. When a greater force is exerted on the press handle mechanism, the outer jaw means is brought by the elbow portion pivotally joined to the press handles to advance forwardly along the wire, while the cutter strips the skin off the wire without damaging the wire filaments inside.

  • Patent number: 5613297
Abstract: A tool (10) is provided for inserting a wire (12) into a wire-receiving slit (13) of an IDC (14) and for trimming the excess portion of the wire following insertion. The tool includes a prime mover (24) coupled to a guide member (36) having a wire-receiving notch (60) in one end, and a slot (64) coextensive with the notch. The guide member (36) has a blade (46) that is pivotally coupled to the guide member for movement across the wire-receiving notch (60). When the guide member (36) is positioned to partially envelop the IDC (14) in the slot (64), and the prime mover (24) is actuated, the guide member forces the wire (12) seated in the notch (62) into the slit (13) of the IDC. Simultaneously, the blade (46) pivots across the guide member (36) to sever any excess portion of the wire extending beyond the IDC (14).

Abstract: A single device dual action lead forming tool uses standard long nose pliers as the basis of its construction. A set of lead forming elements is incorporated into each plier jaw element. Each set contains forming tooth and forming receptacle elements positioned adjacent to one another in a predetermined manner. The elements of one set are arranged within one jaw element in a reverse order relative to the arrangement of lead forming elements in the other jaw element. When the jaw elements are closed, pairs of like positioned forming tooth and receptacle elements of both sets cooperate together to form both the inner and other leads of a single electronic component in a single operation.
