Abstract: A multi-purpose tool that is compact, easily stored, and readily transported and can provide a substantial number of the tools needed on a typical camping trip or outdoor activity. A multi-purpose tool comprises an outer elongated nesting member, an intermediate elongated nesting member, and an inner elongated nesting member. In various configurations, the inner nestable member and the intermediate nestable member may extend from either end of the outer nestable member to form any number of elongated tools. In another configuration of the embodiment, the inner nestable member and the intermediate nestable member may be retracted to the end of the outer nestable member to form more compact tools. A number of application-specific heads may be operably coupled to the nestable members to form camping tools. In another configuration, the nestable members may be unnested and operably coupled as individual members to form tripod or non-linear-shaped tools.

  • Patent number: 5911481
Abstract: This invention is a small saw for hunters in which the blade of the saw can be stored in a water tight compartment in the handle. The handle of the saw is a tube with a closed bottom and a threaded opening on the top. The tube is adapted to hold saw blades that are not being used. A cap with an o-ring and a thread bottom seal the handle water tight. On top of the cap is a semi-circular piece. Along both sides of the flat side of the semi-circular piece are grooves. In the middle of the flat side at the bottom of the flat side there is a threaded opening. Above the threaded opening in the middle is a small indent. The saw blade is placed on the flat side of the semi-circular piece. Over the saw blade is placed a U-shaped piece. The arms of the U fit within the ridges on the semi-circular piece. At the middle of the bottom of the U-shaped piece, is an opening that aligns with the threaded opening in the semi-circular piece.

  • Patent number: 5297306
Abstract: An ax has an elongated socket extending along the top of the ax head in parallel relationship with the top of the ax blade. A detachable implement, which may be a spade blade, a pick point, a saw blade or any of various other implements, has a tang which is fitted into the socket to fasten the implement to the ax head. A spring biased latch pin, disposed in a passage in the ax head, has a first end that extends into an opening in the implement tang and an opposite end that protrudes from the the base of the ax head to enable retraction of the pin and replacement of the implement with a different implement. The socket is preferably open at both ends with the latch pin being midway between the ends enabling entry of an implement tang from either of two opposite directions to accommodate to reversible implements such as a combination hoe and rake blade.

  • Patent number: 5095623
Abstract: A firefighting tool having a flat blade with a pointed leading end for piercing through structural panels, a plurality of stop teeth members for engaging a structural panel that has been pierced to defeat facile withdrawal of the tool, and a plurality of rip teeth members for sawing through the panels when the tool is reciprocated along its longitudinal axis. The stop teeth members are positioned at an angle relative to the rip teeth members and allow the firefighter to easily maintain the tool in an overhead configuration when it is used to remove ceiling panels because the angle of the stop teeth members results in a hooking action so that the ceiling supports the weight of the tool to some extent. Since the stop teeth members defeat inadvertent withdrawal of the blade, the firefighter need not make multiple penetrations of the ceiling panels or other structural member being removed by the tool.

  • Patent number: 4958395
Abstract: A cutting tool kit for outdoorsman consisting of a knife, a saw, a hatchet, and an ax. Four handles including two head handles releasably secured to the coupling hub openings in the ax and hatchet having tubular ends adapted to telescope onto the head handles and to a corresponding shaft on the saw. The hubs and head handles have coupling tapered keyways and keys which taper outwardly from the inner end of the hub to the outer end such that the ax coupling forces increase as the ax tends to move from the handle. The handles have slightly different lengths to form different operations. The grip handles have radial pin openings for coupling to spring-loaded pins in the head handles and shaft. A flat carrying case includes individual pockets for storage of the separate parts of the assembly.
