Abstract: A specialized bottle opener provides a cap opener for opening screw tops, and a corkscrew attached to the cap opener, for opening traditional wine bottles sealed with corks. A lever arm, common to both tools, extends radially outward to provide torque when using either the cap opener or the corkscrew. The cap opener comprises a customizable ring and a pedestal having an interior cavity. Disposed on the inner surface of the cavity is one or more gripping members, such as vertical ridges, which serve to grip the cap and retain it within the cavity after the cap is removed from the bottle. • Patent number: 6196086
Abstract: The invention relates to a foil cutter (12) and such a cutter in combination with a corkscrew (2) and/or a crown cap opener (35). The foil cutter (12) comprises an annular casing (16, 17) having a passage (14) extending axially therethrough and adapted to accommodate the neck of a wine bottle, and a pair of cutting members (22) having cutting edges (23) mounted in the casing so that each extends or is movable to extend into the passage in a plane normal to the axis, one or more of the cutting edges (23) or a guide member (50) aligned therewith being movable relative to the casing radially inwardly of the passage so as to ensure that both cutting edges engage a bottle neck located in the passage. Preferably a push member (25) is connected to each movable member and extends to the outside of the casing for pressing the associated movable member inwardly, and biasing means (27) resists such inward movement.

  • Patent number: 6032553
Abstract: A manually operated corkscrew is disclosed with a substantially U-shaped body having first and second ends. A rack with teeth is moveable within the body. The rack has first and second ends and is biased to move toward the second end of the body. Two symmetrical wings are provided on the second end of the rack with an extension spike mounted therebetween. A handle, pivotally attached at a pivot to the body adjacent to the first end of the body also has an axis joint disposed adjacent to the pivot. A ratchet claw, with a claw end, is pivotally disposed on the axis joint and biased so that the claw end engages the teeth on the rack. The handle acts as a first-class lever when activated about the pivot to gradually push the rack toward the first end of the body through progressive engagement between the ratchet claw and the teeth on the rack.
