Patent number: 5372054Abstract: An apparatus for opening a wine bottle includes a cork seal remover assembly, comprising a housing having a cavity therein, the cavity including opposed side walls that taper downwardly to a bottom opening and converge rearwardly toward a rear wall. A blade assembly is received within the cavity, the blade assembly including a pair of spring arms disposed to impinge resiliently on the side walls of the cavity. The spring arms include arcuate blades in confronting relationship to define a gap therebetween. A bottle neck is inserted between the blades and urged rearwardly, causing the spring arms to converge and the blades to impinge on the seal, severing the end of the seal. The cork remover portion of the invention includes a corkscrew blade disposed coaxially within a tubular housing. The corkscrew blade is operated by a reversible motor, and a sensor within the inner end of the tubular housing is connected to reverse the rotation of the motor and blade.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1993Date of Patent: December 13, 1994Inventor: George J. Patent number: 5313859Abstract: A device for removing a child resistant closure from a container, including a tab to receive the protrusion of a closure of the line-up-the-arrows type, a recess to receive the closure adjacent the tab, an inclined side of the recess to bear against the closure and maintain the tab in engagement with the protrusion, and an end of the device opposite the tab to receive a force. The recess is such that it can accept varying sizes of closures. Applying a force to the forcereceiving end in the downward direction levers the tab upward to pry the closure off the container. The tab is positioned on the device in such a way that the user can readily see the engagement of the tab with the closure protrusion.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1993Date of Patent: May 24, 1994Assignee: Senetics, Inc.Inventors: Gage Garby, Jeffery T. Patent number: 5241719Abstract: A new and improved tool for rapidly removing sealed covers from large paint buckets, oil buckets, and the like and comprising a handle having a hammer member affixed to one end thereof and a hook member extending away from the handle at a predetermined angle. The hook member has a slot therein defining a pair of hook ends, and a cutting blade member is located in the slot and is joined to the hook member. The blade member has a cutting edge of the same general contour as that of the pair of hook ends, and the blade member is thus partially protected from exposure to users during both transport and operation. A first upward torquing motion of the tool member is used to pull the cutting edge of the blade through slots or grooves in the edge of the lid being removed, whereas a second upward torquing motion of the tool is made after the lid edge has been inserted between the end of the cutting blade and a pair of hook ends located on each side thereof.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1992Date of Patent: September 7, 1993Inventor: Herman K. Patent number: 4599758Abstract: In a first embodiment, a pair of cylindrical rods are held in closely spaced parallel relationship by support members mounted in the ends of the rods. The rods have confronting surfaces throughout their length. Pairs of overlapping cutting blades are mounted in the rods and between the confronting surfaces. A container is opened by being inserted between the confronting surfaces and drawn against the blades. When opened, the end of the container opposite the opening is then inserted between the rods and drawn between the confronting surfaces to empty the contents by pressing the opposite sides of the container together. In a second embodiment a flanged slot formed in a flat holder provides the confronting surfaces for emptying the container. Cutting blades mounted in the handle in way of the slot are used to cut the container open.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1984Date of Patent: July 15, 1986Inventor: Robert G. Stiles

Patent number: 4598435Abstract: A combined bottle opener and stopper (10) comprises a metal plate (12) with side edges (14) and (16) bent downward and inwardly. A rubber pad 26 is attached to the bottom face of the plate. Teeth (38a, 38b) are formed on the inner sides of the bent edges for engagement with serrations on the periphery of the cap to be removed. These teeth allow removal of threaded crown caps by unscrewing the caps in the position of engagement between their serrations and the teeth of the opener. Bent edges (14, 16) have different heights with the difference corresponding to the pitch of the thread on a threaded bottle neck. For temporary closing the bottle, i.e., with beer or carbonated water, the device is screwed onto the threaded bottle neck as a nut until the rubber pad is tightly pressed to the upper face of the bottle to hermetically close the latter.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1985Date of Patent: July 8, 1986Inventors: German Borodulin, Alexander Shkolnik, Maxim Persidsky
