With Gauge Or Other Measuring Means, E.g., Ruler, Level, Etc. Patents (Class 7/164)
  • Publication number: 20040020056
Abstract: A combined saw blade and measuring device, or ruler. The saw blade includes a measuring device, or ruler, manufactured as an integrated component of the blade. In this case the ruler is marked, or etched, on the saw blade such that the blade acts as a ruler and straight edge. The ruler is marked on the horizontal edge opposite the saw teeth and runs the length of the saw blade. In this manner there is no need for adjunct attachments to the blade that act as measuring device or the use of a separate measuring device, or ruler, for the purpose of measuring the length of material to be cut. This design eliminates the need for a separate measuring device and therefore simplifies the process of measuring and cutting lengths of material.

  • Patent number: 6434842
Abstract: The invention is a new building tool for leveling a flat surface while removing irregularities in the surface by sanding. The tool, named a “rasping level,” integrates into one instrument the functions of leveling and sanding a surface. The rasping level consists of a frame, levels positioned on the top surface of the frame, and sandpaper on the under surface (second surface) of the frame. Along the lengthwise edges of the top surface of the frame are “grippers” for holding and manipulating the tool. The frame and grippers are made of light weight but rigid material. The levels may be typical spirit levels that are used to measure the level and plumb of wall surfaces. Heavy grit sandpaper covers the under surface of the frame. The sandpaper is attached to the under surface of the frame by aerosol adhesive or semipermanent liquid adhesive. Worn-out sandpaper can be removed and replaced by fresh sandpaper as needed.

  • Patent number: 6425155
Abstract: A hand-held tool useful for a decorator, particularly while wallpapering, comprises a substantially flat body (1) having several retaining means (2, 20, 4, 6) formed in it for holding implements such as a pencil (P), knife (K) and spirit levels (S1, S2). A pair of spirit levels (S1, S2) are retained in retaining means (2, 20) at right angles to one another to enable horizontal and vertical lines to be found. Knife (K) is retained in a groove (6) with its blade shielded to prevent it from accidentally injuring a person. The tool has a flexible edge area (12) which tapers to a straight, ruled edge (12b). This area (12) is useful for pressing pasted paper onto a wall and for removing air-bubbles. Edge (12b), which is parallel to one spirit level (S1) and perpendicular to the other (S2), facilitates the measuring of distances between widths of wallpaper. Studs (9) are provided on a rear face of the body (1) so that the body stands proud of a surface and can thereby be more easily grasped.

  • Patent number: 6367154
Abstract: The present invention is a utility knife adapted for measuring by incorporating a pair of hooks into the blade end of the handle of a common utility knife, which hooks are designed to removably secure the tab of a spring-biased measuring tape such that the tape may extend roughly laterally from the knife but also roughly parallel to the surface being cut. The angles of the hook relative to the knife end are designed to correct for measuring inaccuracies created by the distance that the knife blade must be held away from the surface to be cut; the invention allows the printed measuring surface of the tape measure to remain roughly parallel to the surface being cut, allowing for great ease in reading the measurements during cutting.

  • Patent number: 6058539
Abstract: A quick-availability scribe utilizes a body having a generally rectangular center format, each corner of the rectangular format extending to a curved space along the ends of the body to define a number of curved slots. Each curved slot has a first side perpendicular to an adjacent side edge, an inward curving middle extent, and a second side terminating at an acute angle to form an acute angled edge extending across the thickness of the material. Adjacent slots at one end of the body may share an outward curved transition extending between their acute angled termination edges of their second sides, but any shape transition may be used. Up to four slots can be accommodated while keeping an overall generally rectangular or square format. It is preferable to arrange adjacent slots at the end of a generally rectangular body to skip the next most adjacent scribing magnitude in order to avoid invading too much of the material forming the transition extending between the acute angled termination edges.
