Selective-type Shift Rod, Fork Or Block Patents (Class 70/247)
  • Patent number: 4282769
Abstract: A lock assembly for a transmission gear shift lever that uses a detent latch-type lock pivotably mounted to a support structure adjacent to the transmission gear shift lever. Upon rotation of the latch, a locking arm is mated with the gear shift lever thereby securing it in the neutral position. The lock functions primarily as a safety device to hold the gear shift lever of the vehicle's transmission in a neutral position thereby preventing damage or bodily injury that could occur if the shift lever is accidentally or unintentionally jarred thereby placing the transmission into gear.

  • Patent number: 4281526
Abstract: The invention relates to an anti-theft device especially but not solely for automobile vehicles which causes blocking of the gear-change lever. The gear-change lever is articulated about an axis substantially parallel with the floor of the vehicle and close to this floor. The floor has attached to it a lock device arranged to imprison the said lever after it has been pivoted down flat.

  • Patent number: 4235123
Abstract: A floor mounted transmission control movable to a plurality of operating modes for controlling an automatic transmission has a lock rod controlled by a steering column mounted ignition lock and switch control which prevents the release of a detent mechanism thereby prohibiting movement of the transmission control from the "Park" mode unless the ignition switch has been moved from the "Lock" position. The connection between the ignition switch and the lock rod is by way of a flexible cable. The manual control detent mechanism has a stop member associated therewith which prevents the lock rod from performing its function and the ignition switch from being moved to the "Lock" position until the "Park" mode is selected by the operator.

  • Patent number: 4232571
Abstract: A manual shift control mechanism for a transmission has two drive transmitting cables which are connected to the steering column lock mechanism and the transmission control mechanism, respectively. The cables are interconnected by a pin which is connected through a leaf type spring to the manual shift lever. When the steering column lock mechanism is in the "Lock" mode, the cable attached thereto cannot move so that movement of the shift lever results in flexing of the spring and the pin and transmission cable does not move. Thus, when the steering column lock mechanism is in the "Lock" mode, the transmission control mechanism cannot be moved from the "Park" mode. When the steering column lock mechanism is in an operating mode other than "Lock", movement of the manual shift lever is transmitted to the transmission cable through the spring and pin to effect shifting of the transmission control.

  • Patent number: 4033158
Abstract: A steering column is pivotally fastened to a support structure and pivots between an operating position and a transmission locking position. A steering wheel is rotatably supported at the upper end of the steering column while a transmission shift lever is fastened at one side of the steering column and shiftable between a forward speed position, a neutral position and a reverse speed position. A latching mechanism is carried by the steering column and is engageable with one of a plurality of notches formed in a positioning rack secured to the support structure for latching the steering column in the transmission locking position and engageable with another of the notches for latching the steering column in the operating position. A transmission locking member is secured to the support structure and extends towards the transmission shift lever for abutment therewith when the steering column is in the transmission locking position for locking the transmission shift lever in the neutral position.

  • Patent number: 3995462
Abstract: A structure for preventing the movement of a vehicle by preventing the movement of the gear shift rod. A locking unit is mounted in any suitable place within the vehicle and comprises a clamp which is connected onto a linkage rod to the gear shift and which is normally freely movable with the movement of the gear shift. The clamp unit also comprises a plate portion having an aperture into which a cable having a lock pin on one end can extend when it is desired to prevent any movement of the clamp. The cable is able to extend the pin into and out of the aperture and clamp from a place remote from the clamp itself by a plunger arrangement which is normally extended in an unlocked position but when depressed or urged inwardly causes the entry pin at the other end to move into the aperture and prevent movement of the clamp and thereby prevent movement of the gear shift. A key may be turned to maintain the plunger in locked position against the action of a spring normally urging the unit into unlocked position.
