Patent number: 6425274Abstract: This invention pertains to the lock cylinder of a rekeyable padlock. According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a rekeyable padlock is provided with a lock cylinder formed within. The lock cylinder includes a cylindrical core formed to receive a key and an outer casing formed around the core. A viewing opening is formed within the casing wall, the viewing opening allowing access to pin openings formed within the core to receive selected pins. The viewing opening is shaped such that it provides a viewing area larger than the pin openings, thereby allowing greater visibility when the pins are placed within the pin openings. The advantages of this viewing opening include greater ease in placing the pins into the pin openings and easier detection when a selected pin is the wrong length and does not sit flush within the lock cylinder core.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2000Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignee: Abus USAInventors: Daniel A. Patent number: 6412318Abstract: An electric cylindrical lock comprises a chassis, an inner spindle, an inner handle, a latch assembly, an outer handle, and an outer spindle. A tubular seat is mounted around an end of the outer spindle and includes a positioning groove aligned with a slot of the outer spindle. When a solenoid mounted in the tubular seat is energized, a protrusion of a locking plate in the tubular seat is engaged in the positioning groove of the tubular seat to thereby prevent rotation of the outer handle. When the solenoid is inoperable, the lock cylinder is turnable by a key to cause longitudinal movement of the locking plate, thereby disengaging the protrusion of the locking plate from the positioning groove of the tubular seat.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2001Date of Patent: July 2, 2002Inventor: Mu-Lin Shen

Patent number: 6343494Abstract: The locking device (10) for doors, in particular of vehicles, has an inside door opener and an outside door handle (12) which can be used to actuate at least one lock for locking the door. Locking devices of this type are conventionally very complicated mechanically, since the mechanical connection between the outside door handle (12) and the lock is meant to be uncoupled as a function of various functional positions. In order to reduce the mechanical complexity, only the inside door opener should act mechanically on the lock, and the outside door handle (12) should act via an electric control on an actuating drive (18), which actuates the lock. In this case, the opening command is instigated only if at least one defined allowable precondition is present. The required additional functions of locking devices can very easily be controlled by the electric control, so that additional mechanical elements are not required.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1999Date of Patent: February 5, 2002Assignee: Mannesmann VDO AGInventors: Martin Roos, Dirk Hipp
