Abstract: A relocking mechanism that blocks the path of a bolt within a lock assembly is presented. The relocking mechanism comprises a breakaway member that is repositioned when the lock assembly is attacked by some mechanical means, such as impact applied via a hammer and punch to the lock housing through a spindle hole in a door. The breakaway member prior to attack holds a preloaded relocking plunger clear from bolt movement. When the breakaway member is repositioned upon attack, the plunger is free to move under a biasing force into position so as to block the bolt thus keeping the lock in a secure locked state regardless of the state of the locks default blocking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 8375751
Abstract: A locking arrangement includes a latch assembly, a locking mechanism, and a user operable opening member. The locking mechanism holds the latch assembly in a latching position when the locking mechanism is in a locked condition and allows the latch assembly to move to an unlatching position when the locking mechanism is in an unlocked condition. The opening member is movable from a normal position to an opening position. When the locking mechanism is in the unlocked condition, movement of the opening member to the opening position moves the latch assembly from the latching position to the unlatching position. The opening member is operatively connected to the latch assembly by a compressible member, such that when the locking mechanism is in the locked condition, movement of the opening member to the opening position compresses the compressible member without moving the latch assembly out of the latching position.

The outside handle assembly includes an outside spindle having a first end partially received in the chassis and operably connected to at least one bolt of the chassis such that rotation of the outside spindle causes retraction of the bolt. The first end of the outside spindle includes a perimeter groove, forming a fragile portion. An outside handle includes an end securely connected to a second end of the outside spindle to turn therewith. The fragile portion of the outside spindle is broken when an excessive force is applied to the outside handle. Thus, unauthorized opening of the door by forcibly turning the outside handle is prevented. Further, the mortise lock can be easily installed, and the cost of the mortise lock is cut.

  • Patent number: 7007524
Abstract: A dead bolt lock system which may use one or more security locks in conjunction with a dead bolt to provide various levels of security access to a door. Generally, the lock system tests the condition of the security lock or locks before allowing retraction of the dead bolt. An inside escape lever is provided as a life safety feature to allow egress from the secured area regardless of the conditions of the security locks. A trigger hold back device maintains the dead bolt in a retracted position until the door has been opened and closed again. Lock covers include associated locked-on-by-combination and relock features. A night latch or lock down feature is provided to prevent access, including authorized access through the outside of the lock system. A force blocking assembly is provided to prevent force applied to the dead bolt from harming internal components of the system. A torque override clutch prevents excessive torque applied to the outside door handle from harming internal lock system components.

Abstract: A lock includes a lock housing (3), a bolt (20) which is moveable in the lock housing between an inwardly withdrawn and an outwardly extended position and which includes a weakened region (36). The lock also includes a blocking element (5) fixedly arranged in the lock housing, an interlocking device (12, 14, 16), and a bolt-carried abutment element (34) which is adapted to coact with the interlocking device (16). When the bolt is subjected to an outer force that exceeds a generally predetermined force, the bolt will deform in the weakened region (36) so that movement of the bolt between the outwardly extended and inwardly withdrawn positions will be blocked by the fixedly mounted blocking element (5).

  • Patent number: 6832500
Abstract: An electric door lock includes a lock housing, an operating member, a gear wheel, an actuating member, a driving motor, and a coupling unit. The operating member is mounted rotatably on the lock housing. The gear wheel is sleeved rotatably on the operating member. The actuating member is secured on the operating member so as to be co-rotatable therewith. The driving motor drives rotation of the gear wheel. The coupling unit interconnects the gear wheel and the actuating member such that the actuating member and the operating member rotate with the gear wheel when the driving motor drives rotation of the gear wheel, and disconnects the actuating member from the gear wheel when a rotating force is applied directly to rotate the operating member such that rotation of the actuating member with the operating member does not result in corresponding rotation of the gear wheel.

  • Patent number: 6786519
Abstract: The locking bolt of a swing bolt lock has an elongated opening that fits on a shaft in the lock's housing. The shaft has a compression spring that biases the bolt toward one side of the shaft. In normal operation, the compression spring urges the bolt such that the shaft is at one end of the elongated opening. There, the swing bolt pivots about the shaft to unlock the lock. When a person tries to force the lock, the elongated opening of the bolt moves against spring bias along the shaft. In one embodiment, flat surfaces in the opening and on the shaft engage each other and a notch on the outside surface of the bolt engages a stationary safety key. This prevents the bolt from applying sufficient force to break weaker parts within the lock mechanism and force the lock open.
