Patent number: 4726207Abstract: A portable steering column locking apparatus in two pieces for surrounding the steering column of an automotive vehicle and specifically enclosing the ignition switch and the skin of the steering column beneath which the ignition control rod is located. The cylinder operates in a bolt wing and a striker wing part that cannot be pried apart because of housing projections fitting respectively within side recesses in the wings. The locking cylinder has a carbon steel crosspiece deadbolt operating within an internal "F" groove in the bolt wing and therefore cannot be defeated by common tools used to extract cylinder tools. The hinge of the housing pieces is sealed by welding against access.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1987Date of Patent: February 23, 1988Inventor: Mark Gifford

Patent number: 4578970Abstract: This invention provides a method and apparatus for preventing an ordinary door knob from being rotated, thus preventing the plunger-type bolt from disengaging from the striker plate and plunger pocket in the door jamb. The apparatus is attached to the shaft of the door knob on the deepest side of the door jamb. Once secured in place by the locking mechanism, enclosing all but the shaft of said door knob, its shape and design will prevent any effective rotation of the apparatus, or the door knob, due to its proximity to the door jamb nearest the door knob.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1984Date of Patent: April 1, 1986Inventors: Dennis L. Youngblood, Fred L. Ordelheide

Patent number: 4570470Abstract: The subject invention is a door lock security device adapted to provide a means for preventing a doorknob lock from being opened by a master key or other means through the keyhole while the room is locked from the outside, such device comprising a cover member to envelope and otherwise cover a doorknob of the type which has a locking mechanism integrated therein. The subject covering device comprises a circular ring member comprising two separate retractable members, which are pivotably mounted to one another at a common point about which they can retract or close relative to one another. The circular ring member is adapted to encircle the doorknob in a peripheral manner and is provided with a solid frontal portion to cover the key insert. The solid frontal portion is adapted to fit securely against the outer extremity of the doorknob in which the key slot is structured so as to prevent one from inserting a key or other object into the key slot while it is so covered.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1984Date of Patent: February 18, 1986Inventor: William H. Gray, Sr.

Patent number: 4494391Abstract: An automobile security device for protecting an ignition lock mounted in an automobile steering column. The device includes a hollow cover to fit over the lock on the steering column, and a flexible tension-bearing element, preferably a link chain, for securing the cover to the column. The element is selectively engaged by a bolt mechanism linearly displaceable by a cam the cam in turn mounted on and rotatable with the rotatable element of a lock mounted in the cover.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1983Date of Patent: January 22, 1985Assignee: Wolo Manufacturing CorporationInventor: Joseph E. Patent number: 4463584Abstract: A protection device of the type useful for preventing access to a padlock or small combination lock as well as serving as a container for keys, incorporates a first and second half which are joined together along a junction to form a united body. The united body has a closed bottom wall and a substantially circular circumferential wall as well as a top wall. Locking means are adapted to the body to secure the first and second halves together. The top wall includes an essentially elongated opening formed partly in one of the halves and formed in the remainder in the other half. The opening is sized and shaped to allow exposure of the shank of a padlock or combination lock from the body while retaining the body of the padlock or combination lock within the hollow interior of the united body as well as retaining a bulbus member attached to an exposed U-shaped member.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1982Date of Patent: August 7, 1984Inventor: William E. De Forrest

Patent number: 4462233Abstract: A detachable guard or cover for preventing access to the keyhole of cylinder type locks in the face of a wall or locked door of a tool cabinet is combined with openings in the wall on each side of said keyhole. The guard comprises a generally U-shaped body having a pair of anchor legs joined at one end by a shouldered rivet. The free terminal end of each leg has a right angular tongue which fits into one of the openings in the wall when the guard straddles the keyhole to anchor the guard against the rear face of the wall. A locking leg journalled on the rivet fixes the guard when in closed position. The anchor legs and the locking leg have holes, which register when in closed position, to receive the shackle of a padlock. Alternatively, a lock set or cylinder lock may be built in to the anchor legs, with its pawl positioned to immobilize the locking leg until turned by a key to unlock.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1982Date of Patent: July 31, 1984Inventor: John R. Patent number: 4426859Abstract: Disclosed is an auto anti-theft ignition switch lock for preventing unauthorized access to the ignition switch which is mounted on the steering column of most conventional automobiles. The ignition switch lock includes a housing, one end of which is shaped to conform to the contours of a steering column, having a latched enclosure member which is shaped to adapt to the column for securement of the device to the steering column. The device further includes a housing and a movable access door therein which is shaped to conform to the contours of a pair of long narrow uniform furrows which is manifested beneath the surface of a pair of interior walls within the housing, stops, guide surfaces and a key operated latch for selectively controlling the movement of the door, which moves along in constant frictional contact with the smooth surface of the pair of hollowed out furrows.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1981Date of Patent: January 24, 1984Inventor: Herbert R.
