Face Plate Patents (Class 70/450)
  • Patent number: 10829954
Abstract: Described are embodiments of a tapered bolt receiver for a door lock to accommodate misalignment, between a deadbolt mounted to a door, and an opposing jamb. The tapered bolt receiver can be configured to accommodate misalignment for a deadbolt having a non-tapered bolt, such as for an electromechanical smart lock having a battery stored within a battery compartment that is integrated with an enhanced bolt. Also described are embodiments of a deadbolt plate pivot assembly that is pivotably mountable to a corresponding deadbolt assembly to define a plate pivot system, to accommodate a beveled door edge. An illustrative embodiment of the deadbolt plate pivot assembly includes opposing plate that captures a hinge assembly, which can include plastic plate hinges, which serve to locate the deadbolt plate pivot assembly with respect to a corresponding bolt housing, and can provide a spring force and/or constant torque when mounted to a beveled door.

Abstract: A cylindrical lockset comprises a multiple-compartment lock cage subassembly. A retractor is housed within a middle lock cage compartment. Spindle return torsion springs, for biasing corresponding handle-carrying spindles to their default positions, are housed within axially adjacent lock cage compartments. A torque plate transfers torque from the lock cage subassembly to relatively radially distal trim posts. A knob catch assembly seated in each handle-carrying spindle comprises a generally elliptically-shaped wrap around catch spring and a knob catch backup washer to resist axial loads produced by efforts to pull a handle off of the spindle. A key spindle provides a dog travel window defined by a closed, continuous edge of the key spindle, which window is positioned opposite of an axially-extending seam of the key spindle.

All of the insert components can be formed inexpensively using plastics injection-molding techniques.

  • Patent number: 4096719
Abstract: A door-lock is provided with a lock-housing which accommodates a lock mechanism. The lock-housing comprises two connectable parts, of which at least one can be connected to a face plate which is provided with recesses for the dead bolt and latch bolt of the lock. The face plate comprises a U-shaped member which coacts with the end of the lock-housing facing the face plate to stiffen the lock-housing and form a combined unit which presents high resistance to forcing. The face plate and the member form a separate element which is removably connectable to the lock-housing. The lock-housing may either have a recess for receiving the member, said recess engaging around the two lock-housing parts, or, alternatively, the end of the lock-housing facing the face plate may be open; in which case the member enters the lock-housing through said opening and the two lock-housing parts engaging around the member.

  • Patent number: 4080813
Abstract: A mounting plate having three knockouts for three bolt locations of a deadbolt lock is mounted behind a rectangular opening in the edge of a hollow door. A filler plate and a cover plate are provided to cover the unused ones of the knockouts. When no deadbolt lock is installed in the door, the entire filler and cover plates are used to substantially fill the rectangular opening. When a dead bolt is installed in the door, a knockout is removed to leave an opening at the proper location for the bolt to pass through. The deadbolt lock bore drilling is made on the selected centerline either by the distributor or installer. The filler and cover plates are broken along weakened separation lines and appropriate portions thereof are attached to the mounting plate to cover the unused knockout locations. An adjustable backset lockset mounting arrangement is mounted adjacent the rectangular opening to receive and support the lockset in either of two positions. Breakouts in the door are preformed.

  • Patent number: 3950974
Abstract: A mortise lock case having a body including top and bottom walls and an angularly adjustable front attached to the body by upper and lower tabs carried by the front and secured, respectively, to the top and bottom walls by associated fasteners. The top and bottom walls have integral forwardly projecting tongues received in associated slots in the front. Each tongue has fulcrums at its opposite sides engageable with the side walls of the slot in which it is received. Each fulcrum cooperates with an associated slot side wall to provide pivotal support for the front whereby to facilitate angular positioning of the front relative to the body of the case.
