  • Patent number: 11325529
Abstract: In one embodiment, the invention describes a method of providing advance braking warning before an ADV reaches a point where the ADV is expected to brake. The method enables brake lights to be turned on before actual braking occurs, thus providing trailing vehicles more time to respond. According to the method, a trajectory is generated at a starting point. The trajectory includes a number of discrete points that the ADV is to follow. One or more discrete points are identified from the number of discrete points where the ADV is expected to brake based on previous driving statistics and calculated decelerations. At a predetermined time prior to reaching each of the identified discrete points, the ADV can turn on its brake lights to warn trailing vehicles that the ADV is about to brake so that the trailing vehicle can start to respond earlier.

  • Patent number: 10220707
Abstract: Electrical bus isolation is detected for an electrified vehicle having a DC power source connected to positive and negative buses. The positive bus is connected to chassis ground, and a resulting first current is sensed that flows through a negative bus leakage resistance and a balanced leakage resistance. The negative bus is connected to chassis ground, and a resulting second current is sensed that flows through a negative bus leakage resistance and a balanced leakage resistance. The positive and negative bus leakage resistances are estimated in response to respective ratios of the first and second currents. An isolation value is compared to a threshold, wherein the isolation value is responsive to a voltage of the DC power source and a smaller one of the positive and negative bus leakage resistances. An atypical isolation is signaled when the isolation value is less than the threshold.

Radial acceleration signals of a tire during vehicular travel are detected by an acceleration sensor (11) attached to the inner surface of the tire at the axial center of the tread. A frequency analysis is performed on the radial acceleration signals to obtain a frequency spectrum. A band value Xab is calculated of a specific frequency band [fa, fb] within the range of 100 Hz-400 Hz, which includes the frequency of the second lowest peak of the peaks appearing in the frequency spectrum. Then a check is made to see whether or not the difference between this band value Xab and a predetermined band value Yab of a normal tire exceeds a threshold value K. And when Yab?Xab>K, it is determined that an internal failure, such as a separation, is present in the tire.

  • Patent number: 8954228
Abstract: A gas turbine engine control system is disclosed having a fault detection system capable of detecting a high N1 condition. N1 rotational speed is measured and, in two different locations, subtracted from a target N1 value and a requested N1 value. The resultant error values are scaled by a gain that is scheduled as a function of N2 rotational rate. Each error value is accumulated with separate integrators that have independent maximum and minimum limits. The integrators are reset based upon a number of conditions. A number of additional conditions must also be satisfied for the fault detection system to trigger a fault condition. If the additional conditions are satisfied and the integrators are accumulating values, then a fault condition is set if either or both integrators accumulate a value that reaches a selected limit.

Abstract: A method of operating a vehicle includes the steps of: entering a drive shaft test mode; receiving a command to position a yoke to drive the shaft; regulating the shaft speed so as to be below a predefined threshold; and determining whether a drive shaft is available based on whether an actual drive shaft speed is detected above the predefined threshold. When the detected actual drive shaft speed is above the predefined threshold, it is determined that the drive shaft is not available and the vehicle is disabled to prevent damage to the vehicle. When the detected actual drive shaft speed is not above the predefined threshold, it is determined that the drive shaft is available, and the vehicle may be operated as is typical. The methods may be performed by an controller executing program code stored on a non-transitory computer readable medium.
