Abstract: An outrigger pad monitoring system for determining crane stability includes a plurality of outriggers having sensors for measuring a load placed on the outriggers. A crane control system utilizes the measured load on the outriggers to determine the stability of the crane. A crane control system utilizes the measured load on the outriggers with positional information for the crane boom to determine if the crane boom is in a side-load condition. The outrigger pad monitoring system may be used during the setup of the crane and to verify the proper operation of a rated capacity limiter.

Abstract: A system and method for determining functionality of a single signal wire actuator of a vehicle monitor the signal wire for a heartbeat signal after commanding the actuator and waiting for a self-diagnostic period. In one embodiment, a hybrid vehicle includes an engine, an electric heater, a heater core and a valve positioned to route coolant through an engine and/or an electric heater. An actuator positioned to circulate coolant through the electric heater and the heater core is configured to transmit a heartbeat signal while connected to a power source and a ground terminal. A vehicle controller may be configured to store a diagnostic code, start the engine and/or control the valve to selectively route coolant through the engine and the heater core in response to a heat request and the heartbeat signal not being received from the actuator within a predetermined interval of time.

Abstract: In a vehicle data network with power storage and distribution systems, a ground fault detector or ground insulation monitoring device provides detection of power leakages. Integrity of the power system is reported to a body computer connected to the data network. Responsive to detection of leakage, controllers for high voltage sub-systems report out of norm power usage compared to expected power demand. The system can take corrective actions including: indicating to the operator occurrence of a ground fault; indicating the likely to the source of the fault; reconfiguring operation of the sub-system which is the likely source of the fault, including turning the sub-system off but not otherwise restricting vehicle operation; turning the sub-system off or limiting its operation after a limited time allowing the operator to configure the vehicle for restricted operation; or, placing the vehicle in a restrictive mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 8700286
Abstract: Embodiments relate to tire localization in tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS). In embodiments, a TPMS includes a wheel unit and a control unit. Each wheel unit collects acceleration data and transmits that data to the control unit for processing. The control unit processes the data and, using additional data received from another vehicle system, for example an antilock braking system (ABS) or electronic stability control (ESC) system, correlates the data in order to localize each wheel unit to a particular wheel of the vehicle. Advantages include increased processing power at the control unit as compared to the wheel unit.
