  • Patent number: 8996302
Abstract: A location of a mobile device in a venue can be estimated by using a state space estimator to determine candidate locations of the mobile device at a first time point based on previous candidate positions conditioned upon an observation of one or more environmental variables. A second observation is received at a second time point, and the state space estimator performs a propagation step to determine the candidate locations at the second time point based on the candidate locations at the first time point and the second observation. The propagation step includes a plurality of sub-propagation steps in which a time length between the sub-propagation steps is a fraction of the time length between the first and second time points, and at each sub-propagation step each candidate location is propagated according to a stochastic process. The location of the mobile device at the second time point is determined based on the candidate locations at the second time point.

Abstract: A system for guidance and navigation in a building. For example, the system may determine a route for egress or rescue of one or more people from a building with a hazardous condition. The system may process the route into waypoints and segments developed within a set of constraint rules. Semantic information about the building may be associated with the waypoints and/or segments. The waypoints and segments may be processed into navigation commands. The navigation commands may be formed in natural language from sentence templates. The system may additionally have 3D beacon audio to assist in guidance and navigation of the one or more people in the building.

  • Patent number: 8504288
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to quality control of survey data used to generate and or supplement map information. A device may be walked through an indoor space in order to collect survey data (accelerometer, gyroscope, wireless network identifiers, etc.). The survey data is then transmitted to a server for further processing to identify the path (or the various locations) of the device in the indoor space. The path may be determined by referring to a map of the indoor location and a localization algorithm, for example, a particle filter or least squares optimizer. The path may be compared to other survey data and paths from the same indoor space as well as the map in order to provide an estimate of the quality of the localization produced for the survey data. Low quality survey data may be flagged for further review or used to make changes to the map.

  • Patent number: 8494762
Abstract: An indoor location system uses an electrical power line, power line signal injection devices, and portable position receivers (tags) to generate location data relating to positions of the tags in a structure such as a residence or business. The indoor location system fingerprinting of multiple signals transmitted along the power line to achieve sub-room-level localization of the positioning receivers. In one embodiment, the fingerprinting techniques utilizes wideband power line positioning (WPLP) that injects up to 44 different frequencies into the power line infrastructure of a structure. The WPLP technique improves upon overall positioning accuracy, improved temporal stability and may be implemented in commercial indoor spaces.
