Abstract: To determine origin-destination (OD) data for a transportation system, a processor may receiving passenger statistics collected from a set of data collection devices deployed throughout the transportation system. The processor developing a model representing passenger usage of a portion of the transportation system. The model comprises nodes that each represent a geographical area of the transportation network, and links that represent transportation routes that connect two nodes. The system determines link utilization rates for each of the links by applying the passenger statistics to the model, and it generates an observation report comprising an origin-destination matrix for at least the portion of the transportation system so that the origin-destination matrix comprises the determined link utilization rates.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that allow a user to send a search query and a hint associated with the search query to a search system. Suggested queries are associated with hints prior to the suggested queries being provided to a user interface that allows a user to enter search information into a search field. After receiving input into the search field, the input is sent to a search system and suggested queries with their associated hints are returned. In response to selecting a suggested query, the suggested query and the associated hint are returned to the search service. The search service then provides search results based on the suggested query and the associated hint.

  • Patent number: 9508257
Abstract: An analyzer of the invention adequately analyzes a change in road network by using probe information generated with driving of a vehicle. This analyzer determines a traffic amount of vehicles passing through a specified section included in the road network from a plurality of the probe information accumulated over a predetermined period. The analyzer also determines a discontinuity rate, which is a rate of incidents that vehicle locations are discontinuous in the specified section, from the plurality of probe information accumulated over the predetermined period. The analyzer detects a change in the road network, based on a degree of change between traffic amounts in two different periods with respect to the specified section included in the road network and a degree of change between discontinuity rates in the two different periods. The detected change in the road network can be used for survey of the road network.

Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for providing linear route progress. For example, a linear route progress interface, comprising a linear route representation of a route from a starting location to a destination location, may be displayed. The linear route representation may linearly represent a progress of the user along the route (e.g., as opposed to directions on a map that may otherwise visually overwhelm a user merely interested in traffic flow and/or incident information that may affect an arrival time of the user). The linear route progress interface may be populated with traffic flow indicators (e.g., traffic flow speed) and/or incident indictors (e.g., indicating accidents, construction, etc.). A user indicator, corresponding to a current position of the user, may be populated within the linear route progress interface. The user indicator and/or the linear route representation may be modified to illustrate user progress along the route.

  • Patent number: 9470541
Abstract: Natural navigational guidance provides enhanced guidance instructions that take advantage of unique geographic features along a navigated route to specify maneuver points. Guidance points are clearly visible, unambiguous, and locally unique features in the geography of the maneuver area that can be used to aid the user in discovering the place where the maneuver point is. Within a guidance point selection area, a specific guidance point type has a more strict area within which it can be used. A natural guidance point selection area for an upcoming maneuver to be navigated is determined, and a unique geographic feature within the determined natural guidance point selection area is selected as a natural guidance point for navigation of the upcoming maneuver. A turn-type natural guidance point for an upcoming maneuver to be navigated is generated when the user device is within the natural guidance point selection area.

  • Patent number: 9335176
Abstract: While a user carrying a mobile terminal is aboard a vehicle, communication is available between on-vehicle equipment and the mobile terminal by near field communication, and therefore, the mobile terminal stands by and only the location information measured by the on-vehicle equipment is transmitted to a server. After the user gets off the vehicle, radio communication between the on-vehicle equipment and the mobile terminal is cut off, and therefore, the mobile terminal starts measuring the location etc. and only the location information measured by the mobile terminal is transmitted to the server. The server accumulates the location information sent from the on-vehicle equipment or the mobile terminal. Then, the server generates an inquiry image in which figures each representing the movement trajectory of the user are combined on a map based on the accumulated location information and transmits the inquiry image to the on-vehicle equipment.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention use ground effect to determine how close an aircraft is to the ground. An electronic processor communicates with a navigation unit on an aircraft. The aircraft has an electronic instrument cluster for takeoff and landing control. An aircraft model is received from the navigation unit and used to compute aircraft modeled quantities. An initial altitude of the aircraft is received from a barometric altimeter. Initial aircraft velocities and initial aircraft orientations are from the navigation unit. The aircraft model is initialized. Accelerations, rotation, and altitude from the output of accelerometers, gyros, and the barometric altimeter are received. Surface and thrust control settings are received from the electronic instrument cluster. A best hypothesis for ground altitude is computed and the computed ground altitude having the lowest likelihood of error is reported.

Abstract: A method, system, and/or computer program product automatically generates route directions based on signpost data. A calculated route from an origin to a destination includes multiple decision points where a user has more than one option to take. Geo-stamped images of signposts located at each decision point from the multiple decision points are received, and one or more series of signposts is compiled, where each series has a common signpost content. Conflicts in any overlapping series are resolved by using a measure of relative density of signpost content, and one or more decision points of the calculated route are replaced with instructions referring to the common signpost content of the series of signposts. Geo-stamped images of signposts of the series of signposts having the common signpost content are then displayed in a motor vehicle.

Abstract: A navigation apparatus includes hierarchically road map data having third-, second-, and first-layer data respectively representing a high, intermediate, and low road rank. The layer data are contiguously disposed in a storage portion in the order of the road ranks. The first- and second-layer data include area data about individual zones into which a region corresponding to the third-layer data is divided. According to a read request designating a bunch of area data, a cached portion of the designated bunch of area data is obtained from a cache area. The remaining portion is obtained from the storage portion such that an address range of the storage portion from the start point to the end point of the remaining portion is collectively read while area data not designated by the read request but positioned between the remaining portion are additionally read.
