Abstract: Due to time delays, vehicle speed may become difficult to control. A predictive speed controller is configured to receive a desired speed request for a vehicle and simulate vehicle responses according to the desired speed request. A compensation value is derived from the simulated vehicle responses that compensates for the time delays of the vehicle. The actual speed of the vehicle is then controlled according to the compensation value.

  • Patent number: 7468016
Abstract: In a property correcting system of an automatic transmission according to the present invention, a difference of revolutions between input revolutions Nin of a torque converter and turbine revolutions Nt is compared with target rotational difference ?N, and is increased/reduced by the feedback operation (S6 and S7). It is checked to see if the difference of revolutions is converged to the target rotational difference ?N (S8). When a driving duty duty which is converged to the target rotational difference ?N is within a shipping determining standard, the value is stored (S10). A differential value between the stored driving duties duty of the respective automatic transmissions and the reference value is written to a TCU, as the amount of correction of the respective automatic transmissions, thereby correcting the variation in properties of the individual automatic transmissions, starting from the initial shipping timing.

  • Patent number: 7440833
Abstract: A transmission control system for a transmission including a first gear engagement element that receives a fluid and engages a first gear. The system includes an electromagnetic actuator that receives a control signal and that selectively interrupts flow of the fluid to the first gear engagement element based on a value of the control signal. The system also includes a control module that generates the control signal and that adjusts the value of the control signal so that the first gear engagement element produces a first torque sufficient to hold the first gear. The control module detects a target volume of the fluid when the first gear engagement element produces the first torque. Also, the control module extrapolates a current fill volume (i.e., the volume at which the first gear engagement element begins to produce torque during a shift) of the first gear engagement element from the target volume.

  • Patent number: 7374513
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for adaptively controlling a closed throttle downshift in an automatic transmission wherein a transmission aberration during a shift is diagnosed and corrected during subsequent closed throttle downshifts. The invention is carried out by monitoring transmission characteristics including input speed, output speed and shift duration during a closed throttle downshift, and identifying departures from acceptable patterns. Each type of departure calls for a particular remedy, and a suitable adjustment is calculated based on the times and/or the commanded pressures at certain times, the adjustment being implemented by changing one or more initial conditions for the next shift of the same type. The adjustments may have to be large to make a full or significant partial correction at the next shift. Conversely small increments may be necessary to avoid over-correction.

Abstract: A simulator comprising computer-aided design programs for simulating a shift control algorithm stored in an ECU of an automatic transmission having hydraulic clutches. In the simulator, a simplified hydraulic model describes the entire system so as to design a third model based on which simulation is conducted. With this, by using such a simplified model, it becomes possible to decrease simulation time to 4 sec., enabling to simulation in a time close to an actual shift of approximately 1.5 sec. Moreover, the durability of transmission is tested by repeating the simulation. When the occurrence of undesirable shift phenomenon is forecast in the simulation, the shift control algorithm is corrected until the phenomenon disappears in the next simulation. With this, the manufacturing of a test transmission and a preliminary test are no longer needed, thereby further improving the efficiency and costs of transmission development.

Abstract: Clutch pressure is reduced to an initial pressure, and a transmission operation state is stored, when a vehicle is stopped with an engine in an idling state. The clutch pressure is further reduced at a constant change rate and the amount of time is measured until the turbine rotation speed increases to the predetermined rotation speed. Based on the measured amount of time, a correction amount is computed for the initial pressure necessary to increase the turbine rotation speed to the predetermined rotation speed in a predetermined amount of time. The correction amount is stored in a memory region corresponding to the transmission operation state when the clutch pressure is reduced to the initial pressure. The initial pressure is corrected according to the correction amount stored in the memory region corresponding to the transmission operation state when the clutch. pressure is reduced.

  • Patent number: 6813551
Abstract: Estimated change in operating fluid volume within a primary fluid chamber over a predetermined period of time during gear change operation is calculated using a physical model. On the other hand, detected change in operating fluid volume within the primary fluid chamber over this predetermined period of time is calculated. Then the deviation of the detected change from the estimated change is calculated, and learning and correction of the difference between the characteristic stored in an electronic control unit and that of an actual flow control unit are performed based on this deviation.

  • Patent number: 6801655
Abstract: A spatial image processor neural network for processing image data to discriminate between first and second spatial configurations of component objects includes a photo transducer input array for converting an input image to pixel data and sending the data to a localized gain network (LGN) module, a parallel memory processor and neuron array for receiving the pixel data and processing the pixel data into component recognition vectors and chaotic oscillators for receiving the recognition vectors and sending feedback data to the LGN module as attention activations. The network further includes a temporal spatial retina for receiving both the pixel data and temporal feedback activations and generating temporal spatial vectors, which are processed by a temporal parallel processor into temporal component recognition vectors. A spatial recognition vector array receives the temporal component recognition vectors and forms an object representation of the first configuration of component objects.

Abstract: When a clutch is disengaged in a D-N shift, a duty ratio of a linear solenoid in a stand-by state at a constant pressure is calculated according to the following equation by using the following values: a reference duty ratio in a stand-by state at a constant pressure; a correction value for an AT oil temperature; a correction value for an engine speed; and respective learning correction values in a N-D shift and a 4-3 coast down shift in which the clutch is engaged. In the equation, K is a coefficient and has a constant value predetermined in the range of 0≦K≦1.

Abstract: A method of controlling the shift action in an up-shift mode operation of an automatic transmission for vehicles is disclosed. The method appropriately controls such a shift action by a transmission control unit integrated with an engine control unit, thus restricting turbine blow-up during the shift action, stabilizing the learning process of turbine rpm blow-up, reducing an excessive blow-up learning value to an acceptable level, and thereby accomplishing desired smoothness of the shift action, in addition to improving durability of automatic transmissions.

Abstract: In a shifting device which changes the gear ratio of a synchromesh-type transmission by using an electrically operated or controlled actuator, the actuator is controlled to stabilize or equalize the time durations required for effecting respective synchronizations. A driving signal for each of the synchronization controls is decided in accordance with a relationship between the driving signal to be applied to the actuator and a relative rotation number between an idle gear and a sleeve when the synchronization control is initiated. Prior to each synchronization control, the above relation is corrected based on four variables obtained at the latest synchronization control, including (i) an input rotation number deviation summation &Sgr;&Dgr;Nin, (ii) a synchronization time duration deviation &Dgr;TSYN, (iii) an elapse-time input rotation number deviation &Dgr;dNinP, and (iv) a change grade deviation &Dgr;dNin.
