Abstract: Embodiments for the adaptive mining of bilingual lexicon are disclosed. In accordance with one embodiment, the adaptive mining of bilingual lexicon includes retrieving one or more bilingual web pages, wherein each of the bilingual web page including a search term and one or more additional terms. The adaptive mining also includes forming a plurality of candidate translation pairs for each of the terms and extracting one or more translation layout patterns from the plurality of candidate translation pairs. The adaptive mining further includes deriving a term translation in a second language for the search term. The term translation being derived based on a hidden conditional random field (HCRF) model that includes the one or more candidate translations, the one or more translation layout patterns, and one or more additional features. The term translation is further stored in a lexicon repository.

Abstract: A machine translation method and system comprises the steps of (a) formalizing a non-formal source language in an interactive or automatic way and (b) transforming the formal source language into a formal or non-formal target language in an automatic way. It completely eliminates the language barrier between person and person and the language barrier between person and computer: A user translates his/her non-formal native language entirely correctly and without any lexical ambiguity into any non-formal foreign language which he/she knows nothing about; a user and a computer exchange information in his/her non-formal native language entirely correctly and without any lexical ambiguity. It can be used in network terminal equipment, Internet knowledge bases, knowledge reasoning search engines, expert systems and automatic programming. That formalization of a source language is the common foundation for transformation into various target languages makes it especially suitable for multilingual machine translation.

Abstract: A tokenization platform and method is described for accurately tokenizing character strings, including but not limited to non-delimited character strings of the type commonly used in Internet domain names and computer filenames, to accurately identify words and phrases occurring therein. In one embodiment, a phased tokenization approach is used in which the final phase is a lexical analysis-based tokenization using a dictionary. The dictionary may be advantageously created and updated based upon one or more query logs associated with respective information retrieval systems, thereby ensuring that the dictionary accurately reflects currently-used terminology and captures alternative spellings and presentations of words and phrases submitted by users.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the translation of a portion of text to be communicated in a text-based communication in a communications network. A communications device for composing the text-based communication queries a translation service with a portion of text in a first language to obtain a replacement for the portion in a second language. A user may trigger a replacement query by composing the portion using at least one trigger symbol monitored by the communications device. Replacement may be confirmed with the user and at least one alternative replacement sought in response to the confirmation. The communications network may comprise a wireless network and the communications device a wireless mobile communications device.

  • Patent number: 8296125
Abstract: A dictionary mapping source locale strings to target locale strings is constructed. A tree is constructed from the dictionary. The tree has nodes including a start node, end nodes, and string nodes. The nodes form node chains of the tree that correspond to the source locale strings. Each node chain links a collection of the nodes from the start node to a string node. Each node other than the start node has a parent node and corresponds to a character of the source locale strings. Each node other than the end nodes has one or more child nodes. Each string node ends a node chain, and corresponds to a mapping within the dictionary of a source locale string to a target locale string. An input string having the source locale is processed against the tree to generate an output string having the target locale.

  • Publication number: 20120265518
Abstract: The software application is used to rank language translations and a method to implement those ranked language translations. The language translations are for textual or vocal phrases that a user wants to convert from its original language to a preferred language. The software application will refer to a variety of translation sources in order to create a set of applicable translations for a textual or vocal phrase. The software application will then rank each applicable translation with an accuracy score, which is weighed by three factors: the commonalities between the set of translation sources, a user input process, and a linguistic mapping process. Some methods to implement the ranked language translations include using accelerometer data from a electronic communication device to operate the software application, integrating a moderator into a conversation process, using subtitles in speech bubbles for a video chat, and using location data to communicate with different contacts.
