Transportation Facility Access (e.g., Fare, Toll, Parking) Patents (Class 705/13)
  • Patent number: 8463642
Abstract: Identifying a vehicle in a toll system includes accessing image data for a first vehicle and obtaining license plate data from the accessed image data for the first vehicle. A set of records is accessed. The license plate data for the first vehicle is compared with the license plate data for vehicles in the set of records. Based on the comparison of the license plate data, a set of vehicles is identified from the vehicles having records in the set of records. Second vehicle identifier data is accessed for the first vehicle and for a vehicle in the set of vehicles. Using a processing device, the second vehicle identifier data for the first vehicle is compared with the second vehicle identifier data for the vehicle in the set of vehicles. The vehicle in the set of vehicles is identified as the first vehicle based on results of the comparison.

Abstract: A system and method for many administrators to financially manage the parking of vehicles at parking locations where attendants record toll transactions with portable wireless devices, through a common, cloud-based central computer server. Each local transaction recording device, such as a hand-held PDA, stores the data for multiple toll transactions until confirming that a global communications connection meets a threshold level of quality, before transmitting the data batch-wise to the central server. In this way, data from hundreds if not thousands of toll transactions can be temporarily stored until reliably transmitted to the central server. The remote server is preferably under the control of a single service company that contracts with multiple parking management companies and operators to record transaction information and provide reports associated with an effectively unlimited number of parking lot locations and portals.

Abstract: A smart toll network system for “network-based” analysis via communication of relevant vehicle identifications among to stations (i.e., by forming a smart toll network) coupled with a probabilistic-based search is disclosed. Comparing vehicle identification data (such as license plate recognition and vehicle signatures) between toll stations improves the performance relative to point-based vehicle identification analysis. Of the vehicles unidentified by license plate recognition, vehicle signatures are used to link each of them to the corresponding vehicle at the opposite end of the tolling system. If license plate recognition fails on a vehicle at an exit station, vehicle signatures can be used to find the location where that vehicle entered the tolling system. If license plate recognition was successful at the entrance station, that same license plate number can be assigned to that vehicle at the exit station, on the basis of the vehicle signature matching, without requiring human intervention.

Abstract: The present invention comprises methods and systems that provide manufacturing capacity configuration, allocation, and procurement plans based on manufacturing demand, operational constraints, and other user inputs. This is generally accomplished by modeling the capabilities of the equipment comprising the capacity at its lowest allowed level of configurability. By defining capacity requirements at those same or lower levels, configuration, allocation, and procurement plans can be generated from an aggregated capacity demand forecast. In addition, the present invention allows for constraints (e.g. special equipment limitations, demand priorities, temporal requirements, financial targets, etc.) from various business areas to be considered when generating the plans. Furthermore, for each plan, the present invention also identifies any needed and excess capacity—again described at the lowest allowed level of configurability—and generates expected manufacturing, financial, and other performance metrics.

Abstract: A method of method of assigning routes for a plurality of users allocated to different classes is provided. A first group of users is identified based on a user classification, wherein each user of the first group of users has a first user classification. A second group of users is identified based on the user classification, wherein each user of the second group of users has a second user classification. The first user classification is different from the second user classification. A disutility value is calculated for each user of the first group of users and for each user of the second group of users using a travel disutility function based on an origin and a destination of each user of the first group of users and each user of the second group of users. A bi-level problem solver is executed to optimize the disutility value based on the user classification.

  • Patent number: 8365994
Abstract: A check-in method for airlines allows passengers to use Short Message Service (SMS) to check-in themselves and baggage. A passenger requests to check-in via SMS from practically anywhere and not limited to the airport. After receipt of the request, a confirmation message is sent back to the passenger's registered mobile phone number by SMS. The system will ask the passenger for, and receive from the passenger, the number of bags they intend to check-in for the flight. The passengers can in some embodiments drop the baggage off without any required further action. The system issues an SMS-based cryptographically secure code, such as a bar-code boarding pass to the passenger once the baggage (if any) is successfully transferred and registered to existing baggage management systems through the process above. This code, when scanned, recognized and authenticated provides identification and security clearance for the passenger to board the aircraft.

Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed for identifying a driver versus a passenger within a smart vehicle. This involves a determination of the relative positions of the wireless communication devices within the smart vehicle using near-field communication (NFC) or GPS, AGPS, etc. The wireless communication device detected closest to the driver seat is assumed to be the device owned by the driver. Once identified, the driver can be billed for tolls and other road services, based on the location of the smart vehicle. For instance, as the smart vehicle approaches a toll, a notification can be sent to all of the wireless communication devices. A response from a particular wireless communication device will result in the corresponding user's account being billed for the toll. Further, the smart vehicle can communicate with near-field transceivers placed, for instance, alongside a High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane.

Abstract: A radio frequency identification device includes an integrated circuit including a receiver, a transmitter, and a microprocessor. The receiver and transmitter together define an active transponder. The integrated circuit is preferably a monolithic single die integrated circuit including the receiver, the transmitter, and the microprocessor. Because the device includes an active transponder, instead of a transponder which relies on magnetic coupling for power, the device has a much greater range.
