  • Patent number: 8589231
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer programs for categorizing the sensitivity of web pages are presented. In one method, a space of sensitive pages is identified based on the sensitivity categorization of a first plurality of web pages and a second plurality of web pages. The first plurality of web pages is obtained by performing search queries using known sensitive words, and the second plurality of web pages includes randomly selected web pages. Additionally, the method identifies a third plurality of web pages that includes web pages on or near the boundary between the space of sensitive pages and the space of non-sensitive pages. The space of sensitive pages is then redefined based on the sensitivity categorization of the first, second, and third pluralities of web pages. Once the space of sensitive pages is defined, the method is used to determine that a given web page is sensitive when the given web page is in the space of sensitive pages.

Abstract: A system and method for tracking call activity of a plurality of businesses is disclosed. A global pool of phone numbers is allocated from which to draw numbers. A business-specific pool of numbers is established for business locations involved in advertisements using the Internet via Web pages. As a consumer begins viewing an advertisement for a business, a number is temporarily allocated from the business's pool of available numbers. As the business's pool of unallocated numbers is exhausted, a metric is used to determine whether or not to grow the pool of numbers, to show an untracked ‘fallback’ number for the business, or to reuse a previously allocated number. A data differential can be a change in subtitle information between video frames, a change in audio data between video frames, a difference in content ratings between regions of video frames, and/or difference in activity levels between regions of video frames. Activity levels correspond to changes in pixel color data of video frames. • Patent number: 7996306
Abstract: An improved system and method is provided for using sampling for scheduling advertisements in an online auction with budget and time constraints. A multi-armed bandit engine may be provided for sampling new advertisements by allocating advertisements for web page placements of equal quality and optimizing payments to maximize the welfare of the advertisers while remaining within advertiser's budget and time constraints. Advertisers may report their private information including arrival time, departure time, value per click, and budget. And the multi-armed bandit mechanism may approximate the maximal welfare that may be achieved under budget and time constraints by bounding the possible gain from any possible lie an advertiser might submit in reporting private information. Advertisers departing from the online auction may be charged using a payment method that may provide truthful guarantees on budget, arrivals, departures, and valuations for a budget-constrained online auction.

Abstract: Selection of web page advertisements for placement into a web page may use attention data that ranks the elements of the web page according to the attention the elements receive from users during interactions with the web page. The content of ads can be matched to the content of the most highly ranked elements of the web page rather than the web page as a whole. Alternatively, ads can be selected that historically produce a preferred pattern of behavior such as an attention shift from a highly ranked element of the web page to the ad.

  • Publication number: 20090240589
Abstract: A system for selecting a candidate information unit for linking to a given information unit based on the content of the given information unit. The content of the given information unit may be automatically determined and then compared to content of the candidate information unit to determine which unit of candidate information to select. When the unit of candidate information is selected, it bears a chosen given information unit and it is linked with the given information unit. The system can be used to implement a structured advertising system for the World Wide Web. Web pages (given information) are searched and indexed, producing indexed content data. This indexed content data is then ranked according to relevancy. The ranked content data are compared to content data of advertisements (candidate information) and an advertisement is selected. The advertisement is then copied onto (linked to) the Web page.
