  • Patent number: 6865544
Abstract: In a method of administering a rebate system, rebate-related information is electronically transmitted from a rebate issuing entity and is received by a central processing authority. The rebate-related information includes information identifying a consumer and information relating to a purchase made by the consumer from the rebate issuing entity. The central authority determines an amount of a rebate that is to be credited to the consumer, based on information previously provided by the rebate issuing entity. The rebate issuing entity is invoiced for the amount of the rebate, wherein the amount is payable to an omnibus trust account, wherein a trustee has exclusive control over the omnibus trust account and the trustee is authorized to transfer a credit from the omnibus trust account to the consumer.

  • Patent number: 6803926
Abstract: The present invention is embodied in a system and method for dynamically adjusting data values and preventing conflicts in response to remote user input. Namely, the system and method provides a remote user with real time interaction of data values, such as a set of results, associated sub-items or dependencies, and rules of enforcement of sub-item combinations produced by a host system. Adjustment of conflicting sub-items is prevented with the rules of enforcement and predefined interactive options. As such, the user can dynamically adjust the set of results and sub-items from a remote location. The system and method of the present invention preferably utilizes client-side processing to achieve real time interaction.

  • Patent number: 6754636
Abstract: Purchasing systems and methods are provided wherein a buyer takes possession of a product at a retailer. A purchasing system may communicate with a buyer through a communication network to establish a first price for a product between the buyer and a seller. The purchasing system may also arrange for the buyer to take possession of the product at a retailer, different from the seller, that offers the product for sale at a second price. Verification information, which enables the retailer to authorize the buyer to take possession of the product, is transmitted to the retailer. The buyer provides a payment, based on the first price, to the purchasing system in exchange for the right to take possession of the product at the retailer. In one embodiment, the purchasing system receives a buyer offer, including an offer price, related to the product. In another embodiment, the purchasing system transmits redemption information, including a redemption code, to the buyer.

  • Patent number: 6731197
Abstract: Techniques for cost effectively displaying a bagging indicator by an electronic price label (EPL) are described. An EPL computer reads an EPL data file to determine if an item contains a bagging indicator. The EPL computer transmits a message to an EPL associated with the item which includes a command for the EPL to display a bagging indicator. The EPL then displays the bagging indicator, providing valuable information to customers who are in the process of making purchasing decisions. In one aspect, one or more colored areas on a face plate of the EPL are formed by silkscreening. An EPL liquid crystal segment shaped substantially similar to the colored area is aligned behind each of the colored areas. When the EPL segment behind a colored area is not active, the color is visible to customers, providing the bagging indicator.

  • Patent number: 6701486
Abstract: Disclosed are methods for reducing the number of “pages”, e.g. HTML, JavaScript/ECMA Script, or XML documents or the like, in forms-based transaction applications. One disclosed method involves using dynamic contents documents such as JavaServer pages that include a list of required fields for completion of a transaction. When the transaction initiates the dynamic contents document interacts with a server process to determine if sufficient values for the required form fields are already available, for instance, from a user profile or previous transaction. If so, these values can be used. If, for one or more pages, a form field value is not available, these and only these pages are provided to the user; the others are suppressed. In another aspect, rather than having an ordered set of predetermined pages some of which can be suppressed, just in time pagination is obtained by determining which fields lack sufficient field values, a priori.

The method includes the steps of formulating a change sequence message including a number of change sequence commands which reference memory registers of the electronic price label, and sending the change sequence message to the electronic price label. An Add command causes the electronic price label to additionally display data in a predetermined memory register. A Remove command causes the electronic price label to stop displaying data in a predetermined memory register. If data accompanies an Add command, the method further determines whether such data will overwrite existing data in the predetermined memory register, and if it will, stores the existing data for later retrieval.

The system comprises a standard price storing section for storing a price presented by the seller in response to specifications of an article presented by the buyer, as a standard price, a standard specifications table for storing specifications presented by the buyer and a correction table for storing information required to correct the standard price of the article, presented by the seller. According to the system, difference between the specifications of the article stored in the standard specifications table and changed specifications of the article, is converted into a correction value of price, trough means of referring to the correction table, when the specifications of the article are changed. The standard price stored in the standard price storing section is corrected using the correction value of price.

Abstract: The system organize various pricing tables and price adjustment tables and various products and purchasing organizations based on “who” (i.e. which purchasing organization) is purchasing “what” (i.e. which product). The system and method utilizes a denormalized table to relate the “who” to the “what” using denormalized numbers. The system and method organizes various purchasing organizations and products into hierarchical tables. These hierarchical tables are called organizational groups and product groups. Various price adjustments may be specified for each level of the organizational groups and product groups hierarchies. The price adjustments for a particular purchasing organization are determined by retrieving the price adjustments for that particular purchasing organization as well as the price adjustments for organizational groups above the particular purchasing organization in the organizational groups hierarchy.

Abstract: The present invention is an Internet wire-mesh merchandising system that comprises a webserver for generating a web presence. Potential customers looking to select and buy wire mesh are allowed to log-on to a website operated by a wire-mesh retailer, distributor, and manufacturer. An HTML product page includes navigation buttons that link to other HTML product pages. Each page further includes JPG or GIF type pictures that allow the shopper to see a particular wire mesh product corresponding to a presently displayed HTML product page. A group of alternate-view buttons link to other pictures of the same product that show variations or different perspectives. A set of four navigation buttons permit the shopper to hyperlink to HTML product pages where the wire mesh is finer, coarser, thinner, and thicker. Once the link is taken, a graphic is presented that corresponds to the selected wire-mesh.

Abstract: A system and method that facilitates the recovery of bar code scanning errors due to irregularities in the bar code. When a bar code scanning error occurs, the system displays the erroneously scanned bar code indicating the characters that could not be resolved successfully. The store clerk or operator need only fill the missing digit to confirm the scanned item without manually entering the entire code. Alternatively, a search engine evaluates the portions of the bar code which have been successfully resolved and displays a text and/or graphics list of all products having the resolved portion of the bar code. The store clerk or operator then need only choose the correct item from the screen list to confirm the sale. A printer allows the completed bar code to be printed on a receipt paper. The user of the system may then use the printed bar code for items that continuously result in a bar code error. The system may further keep a list of erroneously scanned bar codes.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for using an enhanced external data interface to display data in electronic price label (EPL) systems. The enhanced external data interface (EDI) responds to various stimuli or requests, such as a store manager or other user logged onto a computer terminal in real time, computer-generated applications and timed file data. The enhanced EDI may receive messages to store first information in, or to read first information already stored in, an EPL data file. The EDI determines whether it is time to update a message displayed by a particular EPL or group thereof for a particular merchandise item. If it is time to update the message, the EDI compares information read from the EPL data file with information about the same merchandise item stored in a message management file.
