  • Publication number: 20140019197
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a system for managing financial risk associated with weather-based service contracts, and more specifically, to a system based on the purchase of weather derivatives to select, manage, minimize, and redistribute financial burdens associated with costs incurred from the payment of services related to greater than average weather-based events. An option contract having a tick price, and an associated premium at a fixed strike price is selected at a desired coverage, in one embodiment, the desired coverage is associated with a payout with the associated tick price that covers the base price of performing the service for a nominal weather condition, the premium of buying the option, and the price of performing the services for exceptional weather precipitations of a three standard deviation from the nominal value. If a hedge trader offers this service rather than a service provider, the desired coverage will also cover the a commission for the trade.

Abstract: A method and computer program are disclosed to assist the user in constructing a decision-tree for outsourcing software development business processes. The tree contains a node for the cost of completing the business processes in-house, nodes containing the expected costs of outsourcing the complete business process to different vendors, and nodes containing the expected costs of outsourcing part of the business process to different vendors. The user calculates the expected cost of outsourcing a business process by multiplying the estimated costs for outsourcing the business process by probabilities that risks will occur in the outsourcing process.

  • Patent number: 8566139
Abstract: A method and systems of safety analysis of engineering processes for safety analysis of nuclear power stations are disclosed. A distribution of risk factors is analysed on different stages of the engineering process, and safety intervals are determined where safety conditions remain invariable. The method further includes analysis of failure transitions from one safety interval into another by means of cause-effect analysis. Based on the results of this analysis, deterministic safety models are created for possible scenarios of transition of failures from one safety interval into another. The method and systems provide quantitative safety analysis and evaluation for engineering processes in variable safety conditions and enable creating valid safety requirements to perform optimization of an engineering processes control system.

Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present invention, risk associated with a supplier of an organization may be assessed. A supplier associated with an organization is identified for risk assessment. The risk assessment comprises a plurality of questions where each question has a priority level. A plurality of selections for the supplier associated with the plurality of questions is determined. A respective selection of the plurality of selections is associated with a respective question of the plurality of questions. A plurality of values associated with the plurality of selections is determined. A respective value of the plurality of values is associated with a respective selection of the plurality of selections. Using a processor, a risk score for the supplier is calculated according to the plurality of values and the priority level of each of the plurality of questions.

  • Patent number: 8554646
Abstract: An accounting system under standard costing as absorption costing which identifies a break-even point, performs a process in which, in a break-even chart represented as a standard-costing marginal profit chart for a company or business line departments, a “net carryover manufacturing overhead allocation cost” ? of an inventory and a managed gross profit QM (=Sales Amount X?Sales Absorption Cost) are defined, a managed fixed cost F (=?+Manufacturing Overhead C+General Administrative Cost G) is treated as a fixed cost, and the point of intersection between line segment OB? connecting the origin O (0, 0) and point B? (X, Vs) and horizontal line segment EN? taking the value of the managed fixed cost F is identified as a break-even point (point H2?). Here, Vs is the sum of the managed gross profit QM and a sales manufacturing overhead allocation cost ACX.

Abstract: A system and method efficiently solve the expected utility maximization problem in large-scale financial asset portfolio optimization. The system and method solve the expected utility maximization problem employing a factor representation of asset returns. Additionally, the system and method calibrate the optimization model to a benchmark to obtain unconditional mean returns and enable active management based on conditional expected return predictions. The system and method also enable options to be considered as part of the portfolio.

  • Patent number: 8549027
Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods are provided for reducing a number of options presented to a user where the options have characteristics that are arranged in a multi-dimensional hierarchical space. A system and method can be configured to identify common dimensions using dimension nodes in dimensional points and identify compatible nodes for each dimension in the multi-dimensional hierarchical space by determining whether an association exists. Compatible pairs of surviving points are generated after applying each of the compatible nodes from the common dimensions. Greatest lower bounds (GLBs) are computed for each of the generated compatible points, and a set of options is generated comprising points from the generated compatible points and the computed GLBs.

Abstract: A computer implemented method for managing risk, which can include determining an organizational impact score from an aggregate of scenario impact scores and storing the organizational impact score in a memory of the computer. Some embodiments include calculating a likelihood score based upon an analysis of threats, imminence of each threat, and a likelihood associated with each threat, and storing the likelihood score in a memory of the computer. In some embodiments, an organizational maturity score is determined based on the ability of the organization to mitigate the actions of a potential threat and recover from a given scenario, and the organizational maturity score is stored in a memory of the computer. Some embodiments include calculating a Risk Index using a processor of the computer wherein the Risk Index equals the impact score multiplied by the likelihood score and divided by the maturity score.
