Abstract: Examples of the disclosure project resource demand. In some examples, a first factor that corresponds to a task and/or a resource is identified. The first factor is associated with one or more scenarios. A model associated with the scenarios is generated. The model includes the first factor. The model is used to generate a projection associated with an expected resource demand for a first scenario. The projection is compared with historical data associated with an actual resource demand for the first scenario to determine a variance between the projection and the historical data. Based on the variance, a second factor that does not directly correspond to the task and/or the resource is generated. The second factor is configured to increase an accuracy of the model. Aspects of the disclosure enable the model to be generated, maintained, and/or updated in a calculated and systematic manner for increased performance.

  • Patent number: 10636053
Abstract: An online system evaluates the quality of a content publisher displaying sponsored content items. To determine a likelihood of conversion actions associated with the sponsored content items, the online system uses information about users and their interactions with sponsored content items featured within the content publisher against interactions with sponsored content items featured within a benchmark system (e.g., online system). By determining a ratio of these interactions, the online system can determine a likelihood of conversion actions for the content publisher. The online system uses this likelihood of conversions to determine a publisher quality score that it uses to normalize third party value contributions toward placing sponsored content items on the content publisher. Thus, third party systems no longer need to be concerned about the intrinsic value of a given content publisher as third party value contributions are normalized based on the content publisher's conversion rates.

Abstract: Endogenous and exogenous variables associated with an item for sale by an affiliate may be displayed to a user of an affiliate decision-making tool. In response to the user selecting one of the endogenous variables, the affiliate decision-making tool may compute a number of introductions, a number of leads, and a number of sales for each of a plurality of possible values of the endogenous variable. The computation may be done utilizing a display position algorithm. A visualization of effects of setting the endogenous variable at different levels may be presented. The user may interact with the display position algorithm to vary one or more of the plurality of possible values of the endogenous variable such that the affiliate is eligible or disqualified to be displayed by an intermediary in response to a search for the item by a visitor of a network site owned and operated by the intermediary.

Abstract: A system is described that processes transactions as sales and non-monetary transfers. Processing occurs in a cycle where at a single prompt, a transaction is identified as a sale or a non-monetary transfer. A good that is the subject of the transaction is also identified. The good, and either a sales price or cost price, depending on whether the transaction is a sale or a non-monetary transfer, respectively, is displayed. A record of the transaction, including whether the transaction is a sale or a non-monetary transfer and the sales price or cost price, respectively, is created and stored. An inventory count record is adjusted to reflect an adjustment to inventory based on the occurrence of the transaction. The system that processes transactions as sales and non-monetary transfers may include multiple devices in a server/client architecture or may include a single device. A corresponding method and storage medium are also described.

Abstract: A system for identifying, and managing a collection of items by receives an image or images of a target object, identifies, assists in valuation of and catalogs the object by using computer vision to extract identifying characteristics of the target object from the image or images, searching a data set of items to identify a probable match, and retrieving its stored identification and valuation. If no probable match is found, or if the match probability is below a threshold, the system may send the image to other users to help identify and value the item via crowdsourcing. It will then return the identification and valuation data to the requesting user and update its data set to include the crowdsourced data. The system also may store data relating to individual user collections based on data that it receives in this manner.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and techniques for determining the vertical alignment of an infrastructure corridor having a certain horizontal alignment involve using a processor to model the cost of constructing the infrastructure corridor as a function of cost variables that vary with the vertical alignment of the infrastructure corridor. The processor looks up the cost variables at vertical offsets corresponding to certain vertical alignments of the infrastructure corridor and determines the cost of constructing the length of road at elevations located between pairs of the vertical offsets by interpolating from the cost variables at the vertical offsets; the interpolation may be linear. The processor determines, subject to infrastructure corridor design constraints, the vertical alignment of the infrastructure corridor from the cost of constructing the infrastructure corridor at the vertical offsets.

Abstract: Systems and methods for obtaining an optimal pricing strategy in a service engagement are disclosed. A model is created for the service engagement between a client and vendor. For the service engagement, a pricing strategy is selected. The pricing strategy is selected from one of a fixed strategy, a variable strategy and a combination thereof. Subsequent to selecting the pricing strategy, a client payoff associated with the client and a vendor payoff associated with the vendor are computed. The model is simulated to obtain a time series data. Based on the simulation, an optimal pricing strategy is obtained by calculating an optimizer payoff function. The optimizer payoff function is calculated by assigning relative weights to the client payoff and the vendor payoff. The optimal pricing strategy is obtained by altering the pricing strategy to maximize the optimizer payoff function.
