Database Archive Patents (Class 707/661)
  • Patent number: 8521768
Abstract: Methods (600-900) for optimizing performance of systems (100, 200). The methods involve determining if a device (108, 1081, 1082, . . . , 108N) has been deployed as a standalone device or a cluster device. The determination can be based on a value of a flag stored in the device (e.g., an appliance) or contents of device registration information stored in a master device of a cluster of devices. The methods also involve automatically delegating data management operations to a centralized Memory Management System (MMS) or a distributed MMS (210) based on results of said determination. The centralized MMS (110) performs relational database management operations (e.g., SQL operations) in response to said data management operations being delegated thereto. The distributed MMS performs grid database management operations (e.g., non-SQL based operations or key-value based operations) in response to said data management operations being delegated thereto.

  • Patent number: 8521503
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for providing compartmentalized security in product reviews. A central authoritative state module within a compartmentalized security mechanism identifies a clearance level associated with a user that has been authenticated. Responsive to the clearance level of the user being sufficient to access the information, the central authoritative state module determines whether the information requires a simulation to be executed. Responsive to the information failing to require execution of a simulation, a coordination module in the compartmentalized security mechanism retrieves the information. A display and input interaction module on a client system then displays the information in accordance with the clearance level of the user thereby forming displayed information. Displaying the information in accordance with the clearance level of the user comprises displaying in detail only portions of the information of the product that the user has access to.

  • Patent number: 8515964
Abstract: Method, system, and programs for computing similarity. Input data is first received from one or more data sources and then analyzed to obtain an input feature vector that characterizes the input data. An index is then generated based on the input feature vector and is used to archive the input data, where the value of the index is computed based on an improved Johnson-Lindenstrass transformation (FJLT) process. With the improved FJLT process, first, the sign of each feature in the input feature vector is randomly flipped to obtain a flipped vector. A Hadamard transformation is then applied to the flipped vector to obtain a transformed vector. An inner product between the transformed vector and a sparse vector is then computed to obtain a base vector, based on which the value of the index is determined.

  • Patent number: 8498989
Abstract: Provided is a method for quickly obtaining an intensity value at a desired m/z value in a compressed data obtained by run-length encoding of a mass analysis data. An index is created by pairing either the start position of a section where zero-intensity consecutively occurs two or more times in an array of an original spectrum data, or the start position of a sequence of data having significant intensity values in an array of the original spectrum data, with the corresponding position in an array of a compressed data. This index is stored separate from the compressed data. The creation of the index does not affect the array of the compressed data. Therefore, the data can be decompressed even by a data processing system that does not use the index. The index helps to quickly locate a compressed data corresponding to the desired m/z and obtain the necessary intensity value.

  • Patent number: 8495025
Abstract: Instead of adding resources into a folder by specifying a list of identifiers, client applications add resources to a folder by specifying a search query that matches the resources to be added. The virtual folder is, therefore, a collection of search queries rather than a collection of resource identifiers. This allows the data archive systems to easily store folder information in a database. A client application can then search by specifying the folder as its search criteria to list all content associated with the folder. Additionally, to ensure that the list of results associated with a particular query does not change after the query is added into a folder, the data archive system also captures generation information associated with the particular query (i.e., the iteration of the search indexes at the time the query is received) and stores the generation information with the query as part of the folder.

  • Patent number: 8489555
Abstract: A technique for managing storage of a data object in a storage device involves receiving the data object (A) to store in the storage device, where the data object has an indicator bit pattern (P). Successive compression data transformations are applied to data object A to obtain respective corresponding compressed data objects, and one of these compressed data objects is selected, such that the selected compressed data object (C) has the shortest length with respect to the remaining compressed data objects. Compression information (I) is then associated with the compression data transformation used to generate data object C, and a threshold value T is calculated at least partly from the length of compression information I. If length (C)+T.gtoreq.length (A), then the indicator bit pattern of data object A is reset and the data object A is written to the storage device.

Abstract: A method of handling performance data comprising a set of events is described. An event record for each event is stored as a set of blocks, each block containing one or more attributes of the event. The storage space occupied by each event record in is then reduced in discrete steps, each step including a reduction process that reduces the size of one of the set of blocks. This enables the provision of intermediate records between events and counters so that new event records contain complete details of their event, older event records contain less information, and even older event records may contain only high-level (counter) information.

  • Patent number: 8433687
Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, and devices for providing off-line indexing to client-based software development environments. For example, an integrated development environment (IDE) may be provided, and a request for indexing of source code available to the IDE caused to be transmitted to a remote indexing server. In response, an index of the source code created by the remote indexing server is received and stored at an accessible storage location. In response to detecting at least part of an identifier received by the IDE, the index is accessed and information associated with the identifier retrieved. The associated information can then be displayed via the IDE. Prior to transmitting the indexing request to the remote indexing server, a computing device executing the IDE may first determine whether an index for the source code is already available to the computing device, and only transmit the request if no available index is found.

Abstract: This invention involves tracking and backing all the information that a user generates on its computer devices (including embedded devices) in real time. The local user server records all user actions and gestures (via various means that include TV cameras). All of this information (user actions and saved files in a computer) is then sent to a remote server via the Internet. This remote server has a virtual map of all the embedded devices on a computer that the person uses. The remote server immediately starts to interpret the user's actions (including user gestures). In one implementation, the invention stores user actions that are related to data generation (e.g. actions that called some links where data is stored, or executed some programs that generated data). In another variant the remote server generates and downloads the same files that are downloaded on the local user computer devices.

  • Patent number: 8423512
Abstract: When an XML-annotated document is saved, a process automatically stores the document's data in the tables of a database. The database server validates the document's data against a user-specified XML schema. Queries can be executed against a set of documents in order to find documents in which a specified XML element contains specified content. Query results can be customized to return only the contents of specified XML elements. The document data can be linked with other data in the database such that the document data is updated based on the other data every time that the document is opened, thereby producing a “live” and dynamic document. Different file formats can be generated based on the document data, thus separating the presentation of the document data from the data itself. Contents of different elements may be obscured based on users' privileges, thereby maintaining the privacy of the document's information.
