The method (200) comprising the steps of: in response to a user search query, identifying at least one search origin (12n) comprising an Internet resource (12n) deemed of relevance; retrieving and reviewing the contents of the search origin (12n) to identify the presence of one or more search avenues (12n) stemming from the search origin (12n), identifiable search avenues comprising: sites (12n) which are ascertained by the search origin contents (12n); submission fields presented by the search origin (12n); and/or, dynamically generated content (12n) retrieved from the search origin, and, perusing identified search avenues (12n) to identify search results to be returned in response to the user search query.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating relevant search results for a user are disclosed. In one example, the method comprises receiving a search query from the user performing a communication initiation search, receiving, by the computer system, search results from a search engine based on the search query, linking, by the computer system, the search results to a communications dataset generated based on communication metadata received from a communication system, and ordering, by the computer system, the search results based on the communication dataset in order from most relevant to least relevant to the user performing the communication initiation search.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices are described for retrieving query results based at least in part on a query and one or more similar queries. Upon receiving a query, one or more similar queries may be identified and/or calculated. In one embodiment, the similar queries may be determined based at least in part on click-through data corresponding to previously submitted queries. Information associated with the query and each of the similar queries may be retrieved, ranked, and or combined. The combined query results may then be re-ranked based at least in part on a responsiveness and/or relevance to the previously submitted query. The re-ranked query results may then be output to a user that submitted the original query.

Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus, including computer program products, for ranking expertise. In some implementations a method is provided that includes identifying a plurality of identities, and identifying a plurality of topics using one or more documents in a repository. For a document in a corpus of documents identifying one or more occurrences of any identity in the plurality of identities and one or more occurrences of any topic in the plurality of topics, determining an association between the identities occurring in the document and the document including deriving an identity score for each unique identity occurring in the document, determining an association between the topics occurring in the document and the document including deriving a topic score for each unique topic occurring in the document, and using the determined associations to derive a score of the document with respect to identities and topics occurring in the document.

Abstract: System, method and computer program product for 1) preparing queries for retrieving related content based on existing data content. For instance, titles of existing documents or entities extracted from documents can be used as queries. 2) Retrieving content from other repositories of unstructured, semi-structured, or structured data. For instance, web pages can be retrieved using existing search engines. 3) Extracting smaller units of text from the retrieved content. For instance, web pages can be split into coherent paragraphs of text. 4) Judging the quality of the smaller units of text and their relatedness to existing data. For instance, paragraphs can be scored using a statistical model based on lexico-syntactic features and topic models. 5) Synthesizing new sources from high-quality related text. For instance, paragraphs that score above a threshold can be concatenated into a new document.

Abstract: A method of location-based data organization is provided. The method includes obtaining a graph that includes nodes, each node connected to at least one other node with an arc. The nodes include a geography nodes associated with geographical locations, and activity nodes. The method also includes dynamically assigning weights to the nodes, and finding, for a first activity node, a suggested set of one or more activity nodes.

Abstract: Systems and methods for search and search optimization using a pattern in a location identifier is disclosed. In one aspect, embodiments of the present disclosure include a method, which may be implemented on a system, of search and search optimization. The method includes, detecting a set of location identifiers that have a pattern that matches a specified pattern and identifying a set of search results as having content related to the semantic type. The specified pattern can be stored in a computer-readable storage medium and corresponds to a semantic type. The set of search results can include objects associated with the set of location identifiers having the specified pattern.

Abstract: A system and method to detect similarities between images. The system and method allow comparisons between a query image and one or more catalog images in a manner that is resilient to scanning, scaling, rotating, cropping and other distortions of the query image. The system includes an image processing module that determines and/or calculates principle features of a catalog image and constructs a feature vector using one or more of the principle features. The system also includes a matching module that matches a query image to one or more catalog images. The system finds matches based on a distance measure of features present in the query image and features present in the catalog images.

Abstract: A data visualization application recommends context based actions for data visualizations. The application displays a visualization of a dataset. In response to detecting a query request associated with the visualization, contextual information for the data is used to construct a query. The application submits the query to search services for search indexes, structured data, and unstructured data. The returned results are displayed in summary format using actionable items. The actionable items update the visualization or provide new visualizations representing the results.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for processing joint image-audio queries. In one aspect, a method includes receiving, from a client device, a joint image-audio query including query image data and query audio data. Query image feature data is determined from the query image data. Query audio feature data is determined from the audio data. The query image feature data and the query audio feature data are provided to a joint image-audio relevance model trained to generate relevance scores for a plurality of resources, each resource including resource image data defining a resource image for the resource and text data defining resource text for the resource. Each relevance score is a measure of the relevance of corresponding resource to the joint image-audio query. Data defining search results indicating the order of the resources is provided to the client device.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for searching data of an online service and a corresponding online system are described, wherein the method comprises receiving a search query originating from a client device operated by a user, accessing at least one data cloud provided by the online service, performing a search on a data pool maintained by the online service using the search query, including searching the data pool subject to the search query and refining results of the search based on the at least one data cloud, and sending a search response based on the refined results of the search to the client device.

Abstract: A method and system for determining a service description that most closely matches a service name. A ranked service name list is generated by use of a name parser, a dictionary, and a name composer, wherein the ranked service name list comprises at least one alternative service name and a respective rank of each alternative service name of the at least one alternative service name, and wherein the respective rank indicates how closely the alternative service name associated with the respective rank resembles the service name provided by the user. It is ascertained that the service description matches the highest ranked alternative service name in the service name list. The service description matching the highest ranked alternative service name is communicated to the user.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein for enhancing the ranking products using purchase day based time windows. A purchase day based time window is a time window that is defined to include purchase days selected from a series of consecutive days. A purchase day is a day on which a product associated with the time window is purchased. The series of consecutive days includes the purchase days intermixed with non-purchase day(s). A non-purchase day is a day on which the product associated with the time window is not purchased. The purchase day based time window is further defined to not include the non-purchase day(s).

Abstract: Given a set of documents relevant to a litigation hold and a seed set of keywords, a second set of keywords can be generated and suggested to a user. Each document in a training set of documents is given an indication of relevance. Based on the indication of relevance, a set of further keywords relevant to the litigation is extracted from the documents and suggested to a user. The suggested set of keywords may or may not include keywords in the seed set. Additionally, the suggested set of keywords may be related to the seed set of keywords.

Abstract: A search system includes: a data rewriting system that obtains, from a database, one or more search term candidates that are relevant to a present search query. The data rewriting system retrieves properties of the present search query and the one or more search term candidates, where the properties describe respective matching results of the present search query and the one or more search term candidates. Based at least in part on the matching results, the data rewriting system determines whether or not the present search query needs to be rewritten, and rewrites the present search query based at least in part on the matching results to provide a rewritten present search query if it is determined that the present search query needs to be rewritten. A search engine performs a search based at least in part on the rewritten present search query.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for a method of propagating signals across a web graph. A signal describes a document or otherwise provides useful information about a document in a web graph. A web graph is a collection of documents that are related to one another through links, such as hyperlinks. The signals are propagated in the sense that information from the related pages is associated with the target page even though the information may not be directly found in the target page. This information may then be used by a search engine to determine that a particular page is relevant to a search query.

Abstract: The systems and methods described herein generally relate to increasing user productivity in reviewing query results by visually depicting the presence/absence of a set of query terms in a set of paragraphs across a set of documents.

Abstract: In a method of generating a search boost vector, a first set of content location identifiers for first content are provided. A second set of content location identifiers for second content are identified. The second content is related to the first content in accordance with one or more predefined criteria. A search boost vector is generated by determining weights corresponding to content location identifiers in the second set of content location identifiers. The search boost vector may also be generated by determining weights corresponding to content location identifiers in the first set of content location identifiers. The predefined criteria may include one or more additional content location identifiers that are co-visited with one or more content location identifiers for the first set of content location identifiers. Co-visits are by a community of users during an interval of time.

Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for visual search construction, document triage, and coverage tracking is provided. One or more search topics are received from a user. The search topics are positioned along a graph to generate a query. A search for resulting topics that are related to one or more of the search topics is conducted using the query. The topic results are displayed in the graph in relation to the placed search topics of the query.

Abstract: A system limits search results based on context information. The system obtains the context information and a search query, and obtains a set of references to documents in response to the search query. The system then filters the set of references based on the context information and presents the filtered set of references to a user.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method is disclosed for cutting off listings or search results. In the method, a computer system may receive a query from a client computer. In response to the query, the computer system may compile listings ranked according to corresponding relevance scores. Thereafter, the computer system may calculate a cutoff score that is less than a maximum relevance score corresponding to the listings. For example, the computer system may calculate a cutoff score by multiplying a maximum relevance score corresponding to the listings by a weighting. In selected embodiments, the weighting may be greater than 0.05 and less than 0.5. The computer system may then serve to the client computer as a response to the query a subset of the listings. The subset may comprise those listings corresponding to a relevance score greater than the cutoff score.

Abstract: Access to resources on a computer may be provided by using a first namespace of resources and a second namespace of resources, where one or more names are common to both namespaces and those names refer to different respective instances of resources. A request is received for a first resource name from an application, where the first resource name exists in the first resource namespace and in the second resource namespace. In response to the request, whether to obtain a resource from the first namespace or from the second namespace is determined by applying one or more resource policies to the first resource namespace and to the second resource namespace.

Abstract: Web pages accessed as results obtained from search engines which locate documents or web pages or web sites in a computer network (e.g., a distributed system of computer systems), are displayed in a ranked order. The ranked order improves the relevance of displayed web pages to a search inquiry entered by a user of an end user device such as a personal computer system, a tablet, a smartphone or other device. The method, apparatus and program product identifies reference pages based on source code analysis; how many times any page is referred in different pages; and what amount of content is referred in any document. The reputation of any referred page is assessed. This information is used to calculate a score of any web page, with a better score resulting in higher ranking.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method, for providing a relevant information set, based on vehicle crowd data, to vehicles. The method includes receiving, from a plurality of participating vehicles, vehicle crowd data relating to a condition sensed by the participating vehicles in a geographic area, yielding received vehicle crowd data. In one embodiment, the condition includes at least one pre-identified condition selected from a group consisting of cruise-control engagement, road hazard, icy road, other slick-road condition, and vehicle-security violation. The method also includes filtering the received vehicle crowd data, yielding relevant vehicle crowd data, and constructing, by the device, using the relevant vehicle crowd data, the relevant information set. The method further includes sending the relevant information set for delivery to one or more user vehicles associated with the geographic area.

Abstract: Via a graphical user interface, a user can select multiple different services (e.g., remote repositories such as websites) having contact information associated with the user's contacts (e.g., friends, Internet buddies, friends of friends, acquaintances, etc.). Based on the selection of multiple services, the contact information manager communicates with the multiple services over a network to retrieve the contact information associated with the user's friends (i.e., contacts). The contact information manager processes the contact information from the multiple services and initiates display of the contact information in a unified listing.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for configuring an identity resolution system to support distinct relevance types. Identity records are accessed that are assigned relevance scores of distinct relevance types. Upon determining that the identity records refer to a common individual, the identity records are resolved into an entity representing the common individual. Relevance scores of the distinct relevance types are then determined for the entity, based on the identity records.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for information repository workflows to transfer information between a first domain, such as healthcare sites, and a second domain, such as medical research facilities. Large quantities of medical information may be directly transferred to an information repository or indirectly transferred to the repository through the use of pointers. The information is cleansed and normalized prior to storage in a production database within the repository. The cleansing process is conducted while ensuring integrity of the production database is maintained and while continuing to receive additional information transfers. Errors encountered during processing are logged and reported.

Abstract: Techniques for providing improved search results for queries are provided. The techniques include a server receiving a query from a customer and identifying a number of product listings corresponding to the query according to relevance scores. The techniques also include identifying a signal associated with each of the product listings, calculating a signal score from a relevance score and a signal value for each of the product listings, creating query results comprising the number of product listings ordered according to the signal score, and transmitting the query results to the customer.

The enhanced cluster can be aggregated into a merged document. The merged document can be a document including the enhanced cluster contents. The ranking algorithm can be executed on the merged document to obtain a final ranking of content within the single document.

Abstract: A system and architecture for enhancing search results generated by an Internet search engine, so that those search results include enhanced buyer-oriented information, is disclosed. According to one aspect, a list of search results generated by an Internet search engine comprises one or more search results that are associated with one or more URLs in a set of URLs. For each such URL, seller-specific information, which may be based on and/or comprise ratings that are associated with registered selling entities that are associated with that URL, is presented in association with that URL's corresponding search result in the list of search results. A user who submitted query terms, based upon which the list of search results was generated, can use the presented rating information to determine which of the search results to investigate further.

Abstract: Method of presenting search results to a user of a social network site on the Internet, in which each user of the social network site has a user profile with information regarding the user, includes obtaining content items satisfying a search of information on the Internet by a first user. The content items are ranked as a function of the information in the user profile of the first user such that the content items which are related to the information in the user profile of the first user are ranked higher than the content items which are unrelated to the information in the user profile of the first user. The content items according to ranking are then transferred to a display of the first user via the Internet such that higher ranked content items are displayed on the display prior to lower ranked content items being displayed on the display.

Abstract: Techniques for generating content for topics based on user demand are disclosed. In some embodiments, generating content for topics based on user demand includes determining a topic based on a user demand; automatically generating content for the topic; and selecting the content that is contextually relevant for display within a corpus of content (e.g., a web site, a social networking web page, content customized for mobile devices, content customized based on location awareness, or an electronic mail message).

Abstract: Method and system are provided to determine a member profile associated with a reference to a person in a publication and may be used beneficially to identify members of a social network in news articles. The system may be configured to detect a publication that was shared by a member of an on-line social networking system, determine that the publication includes a name entity, and identify a member profile in the on-line social networking system that represents a member referenced by the name entity. The process of identifying a member profile in the on-line social networking system that represents a member referenced by the name entity may include building a list of candidate profiles from the member profiles of the on-line social networking system and selecting a matching profile from the candidate profiles, utilizing one or more disambiguation techniques.

Abstract: A universal distributed search system allows users to find and distribute search results (possibly including advertisements) to those with whom they communicate. The search results can be easily distributed by the user via a simple interface that allows the search results to be easily added to the user's content. Search queries entered by the user or search results received from search components may be automatically refined by the system.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a document creation support apparatus includes a determination unit, a search unit and a presentation unit. The determination unit determines a document type that is a type of a document containing a target character string, based on feature values including a first character recognition result and a first position information item. The search unit searches, if a search condition for searching for relevant character strings is satisfied, one or more databases for the relevant character strings to obtain the relevant character strings in order of decreasing score based on priorities, each of the priorities being set to each of the one or more databases according to the document type. The presentation unit presents the relevant character strings in order of decreasing the score.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for configuring an identity resolution system to support distinct relevance types. Identity records are accessed that are assigned relevance scores of distinct relevance types. Upon determining that the identity records refer to a common individual, the identity records are resolved into an entity representing the common individual. Relevance scores of the distinct relevance types are then determined for the entity, based on the identity records.

Abstract: Systems and methods promoting an authoritative version (AVR) of copyrighted media content over one or more non-authoritative versions of the copyrighted media content relative to relevancy of the copyrighted media content to a search query are presented.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus related to providing user-guided term suggestions. Some implementations may be directed to identifying user input that includes at least one term and identifying a user-initiated activity near the term. An edit term may be identified based on the user-initiated activity near the term, an edit position in the edit term may be identified, and one or more candidate terms may be identified based on the edit term. Similarity measures for the candidate terms may be determined. The similarity measure of a given candidate term of the candidate terms may be based on the edit position. One or more of the candidate terms may be selected as suggested terms based on the similarity measures and the selected suggested terms provided for potential replacement of the edit term.

Abstract: A system, method and interface for compiling literary works from specialized databases and/or from unique interfaces is provided, including a custom database compiled from plural existing literary indexes, wherein a master index is harmonized from said existing indexes according to common terms (e.g., book, chapter and verse for biblical indexes) with deleted duplicates. In exemplary embodiments, the master index is also augmented by ingestion of additional literary works in digital form that are chopped up based on said common terms (e.g., book, chapter, verse) extracted from the literary work.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for providing search results, particularly product records from a product database. Past queries are analyzed and grouped into clusters according to similarities with one another. For an individual query, relevant search results are identified and departments corresponding thereto are also identified. Confidence scores are determined for the identified departments and if one or more departments have confidence scores above a threshold, the search results are filtered based thereon. If not, then departments corresponding to a query cluster relevant to the query are selected. Additional departments may also be selected based on the number of search results corresponding to the additional departments. Search results filtered according to one or more selected departments are transmitted to an author of the query.

The user interface receives search criteria of one or more categories and provides search results comprising exact and/or non-exact matching records. A non-exact matching record has a relevance value representing the relevance of the record to the search query, the non-exact matching records being displayed in an ordering based on the relevance values. The user interface provides slider tools for receiving changes in a weight value or search criterion of an associated category. A new ordering of the non-exact matching records is displayed in real-time based on the new received weight values or search criterion. The user interface may also provide a mapping tool, a search-result selection function, and/or one or more drill down tools. The user interface may provide any tool or function alone or in any combination.

Abstract: The invention pertains to methods, systems, and apparatus for identifying media items relevant to a selected subject matter, the method comprising determining the subject matter of a first media item, the first media item comprising at least one of audio content and video content, determining the classification within an ontology of the subject matter of the first media item, analyzing the ontology to identify other subject matter related to the subject matter of the first media item, and performing a search for other media items relevant to the subject matter of the first media item as a function of at least the other related subject matter according to the ontology.
