Abstract: Standard word lists that are often used for such operations as predictive text, spell checking, and word completion are based on general linguistic data that might not accurately reflect actual text usage patterns of particular users. Systems and methods of building and using a custom word list for use in text operations on an electronic device are provided. A collection of text items associated with a user of the electronic device is scanned to identify words in the text items. A weighting is then assigned to each identified word, and the words and corresponding weightings are stored.

Abstract: A method an apparatus is provided for providing selected media files, which are chosen from among a plurality of media files, to a user over a packet-switched network such as the Internet. The method begins by receiving over the packet- switched network a request from the user to receive media content. Next, a user profile associated with the user is retrieved from a database. The user profile reflects user preferences in media content to be received over the packet-switched network. The plurality of media files are ranked based at least in part on the user profile. At least one highly ranked media file is selected from among the ranked plurality of media files. At least one of the highly ranked media files is forwarded to the user over the packet-switched network.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method, by a computer having a computer processor, of identifying emerging risks of agents causing harms to a particular system comprises accessing, via a computer network, an electronic document database comprising document data; inputting a set of criteria, which includes a selected set of agents and a selected set of harms to a particular system, specified by a user; extracting a subset of the document data that satisfies the set of criteria; generating, with the processor, an array containing agent-harm coincidences from the extracted subset of the document data; assessing, with the processor, statistical significance of each agent-harm coincidence relative to other agent-harm coincidences; compiling, with the processor, risk data, based on the statistical significance, of agents of the selected set of agents causing harms of the selected set of harms to the particular system; and outputting the risk data.

Abstract: A method of generating search information enables efficient navigation of content and an image apparatus therefore. The method of generating search information includes extracting and storing a portion of a plurality of searched screens, and generating search information using the stored screens. Accordingly, search information regarding digital content can be generated in a more convenient manner. In addition, since searched screens are generated as search information, search information which enables more efficient navigation can be provided to the user.

Abstract: A system for targeting advertising content includes the steps of: (a) receiving respective requests for advertising content corresponding to a plurality of mobile communication facilities operated by a group of users, wherein the plurality includes first and second types of mobile communication facilities with different rendering capabilities; (b) receiving a datum corresponding to the group; (c) selecting from a first and second sponsor respective content based on a relevancy to the datum, wherein each content includes a first and second item requiring respective rendering capabilities; (d) receiving bids from the first and second sponsors; (e) attributing a priority to the content of the first sponsor based upon a determination that a yield associated with the first sponsor is greater than a yield associated with the second sponsor; and (f) transmitting the first and second items of the first sponsor to the first and second types of mobile communication facilities respectively.

Abstract: A searchable web site discovery and recommendation system and method for discovering and recommending searchable web sites to a user of a search engine. In general, given a search query by a user embodiments of the system and method discover and then recommend a list of searchable web sites. Embodiments of the system and method discover and recommend searchable web sites using client-side query behavior logs. A set of descriptive features is automatically extracted from the logs. In addition, embodiments of the system and method expand the initial search query by submitting the query to a general search engine and leveraging snippets from the search engine results. Embodiments of the system and method model a conditional probability of a searchable web site based on four components and the extracted descriptive features. A ranked list of recommended searchable web sites is obtained from the conditional probability and displayed to a user.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include methods and systems for correlating relationships between foods and symptoms such as gastrointestinal manifestations. Users can provide information regarding food intake and/or symptoms through any number of devices. The food and/or symptoms can be analyzed to pinpoint foods that are highly correlated with health symptoms, such as, digestive problems. Removal of such foods from the user's diet can then be suggested.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes accessing a social graph that includes a plurality of nodes and edges, generating a plurality of structured queries, where each structured query comprises references to nodes and edges of the social graph, calculating a score for each structured query based on user-engagement factors, and sending each structured query having a score greater than a threshold score to a first user for display.

Abstract: A method includes receiving popularity measure values for a media asset. The popularity measure values provide a measure of a popularity of the media asset provided in digital content and physical content. Popularity measure value weights for the popularity measure values are identified. A digital ranking score for the media asset in digital content is determined based on the popularity measure values and corresponding popularity measure value weights for the digital content. A physical ranking score is determined for the media asset in physical content based on the popularity measure values and corresponding popularity measure value weights for the physical content. A digital ranking weight and a physical ranking weight are identified for the media asset. The method also includes determining a cross-platform ranking score of the media asset based on the physical ranking score, the physical ranking weight, the digital ranking score, and the digital ranking weight.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system for providing a rating of the quality of a peer review process for an article is disclosed. A weighted peer review score is calculated from metadata of the article which includes information about the number of editors-in-chief, the number of associate editors, and the total number of reviewers that participated in the peer review of the article. The metadata also includes information about the number of revisions of the article. The peer review score is displayed next to a link to the article returned in the search results from the search engine. The peer review score indicates the relative thoroughness of the peer review process that the article underwent. The peer review score is included with a link to the article when the article appears in a search engine search results.

Abstract: Embodiments for a method for ranking social quality of content published on a plurality of web pages are provided. In an embodiment, the method includes receiving at least one log record from a tracking component on at least one web page. The one log record is indicative of at least one user activity on the at least one web page. The method further includes aggregating the at least one log record corresponding to preferably each of the plurality of web pages based on one or more parameters. The method also includes assigning a first score for preferably each of the plurality of web pages based on the aggregating. The first score is indicative of a social quality of content published in the at least one web page. The method includes ranking the plurality of web pages based on the first score.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for positioning targeted sponsored content on a cellular phone includes the steps of (a) assessing a likelihood of an interaction by a user of the cellular phone with a sponsored content, wherein the assessment is based on a plurality of user characteristics associated with the cellular phone including (i) a credit card datum; and (ii) a predefined hardware or software characteristic of the cellular phone; (c) prioritizing the placement of the sponsored content within one of a plurality of predefined areas of a graphical user interface of the cellular phone over the placement of other sponsored content within the same area, wherein the prioritization is based on the assessment of the likelihood of the interaction of the user of the cellular phone with the sponsored content; and (d) presenting the sponsored content within the one of a plurality of predefined areas of the graphical user interface.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for processing electronically stored information (ESI) for electronic discovery are described. In some examples, an electronic analysis of documents in the ESI indicated as being responsive to a search query of the ESI is performed. Results of the electronic analysis are stored in a database to provide a repository of case knowledge. Search parameters for at least one additional search query are generated automatically based on the case knowledge. The search parameters are provided as output.

Abstract: According to one general aspect, a method of presenting to a user a subset of applications that may be executed by a computing device is described. The subset of applications may be selected from a plurality of applications available an online marketplace for such applications. The method may include ranking the applications based on signals relevant to the relative desirability to the user of different applications, wherein at least one of the signals is based on information that is generated outside of the marketplace. The method may further include selecting the subset of applications based on their respective rankings. The method may also include presenting the selected subset to the user.

Abstract: Apparatuses, computer readable media, methods, and systems are described for accessing table layout data identifying a plurality of fields included in a table stored in a database, accessing log data identifying a number of times each of the fields of the table has been queried, ranking the fields based on the number of times each of the fields of the table has been queried, determining a first subset of the fields that have not been queried at least a predetermined number of times, and generating an update to the table by removing the first subset of the fields from the table.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for activity-based users' interests modeling for determining relevance of the content distributed to the users is provided. Modeling of the user's interests starts by collecting information about the actions that the user performed and about the contents that were associated with the actions. That information may be used to determine how much interest the user has had in the individual subjects up to date, and to determine which subjects became more or less important to the user over time. Further processing of the information about the interests of each of the individual users in a group of users may produce characteristics indicating the interests of the group as a whole. Additional processing may generate the information reflecting relative importance of the interests of an individual user in the group to the interests of other users in the same group.

Abstract: A method of selecting information items in connection with an electronic message includes selecting a plurality of information items satisfying a predefined popularity condition and identifying any one from the selected information items whose associated keyword is found in the electronic message. A set of candidate items are selected periodically based on their respective popularity metrics. The popularity metric of an information item may be its click-through rate during a predefined time period. Each candidate information item has one or more keywords and the number of the keywords found in the electronic message determines the item's relevancy to a user accessing the message. In some embodiments, the method selects a subset of the information items using user geographical information associated with a user accessing the electronic message from a client and at least one of the selected information items is set to target users at a location corresponding to the user geographical information.

Abstract: Computer-readable media, computer systems, and computing methods are provided for recommending websites that are relevant to a current website to which a user has navigated. A search engine is used to track a set of websites the user has visited immediately prior to the current website, while predictive model(s) are used to generate a sequence of websites that include the current website and the tracked websites. The sequence is compared against strings of websites within a browser-history log to identify matching strings, where the matching strings include the sequence and a respective candidate website. A probability of relevance is computed from a frequency that each of the matching strings has been visited within a predefined time frame. The probability of relevance for each of the matching strings is ranked against one another to distill the highest-ranked matching strings, which are parsed to extract and present the candidate websites included therein.

Abstract: A content recommendation system and method are provided in which content semantic topic analysis, user interest identification and per interest recommendations are used to deliver relevant and diversified content recommendations to the user. Semantic topic analysis is used to infer underlying topics in content items; for each content item, a topic distribution vector is derived with components that represent relevance of the content item to specific underlying topics. A user's long term and short term user interests are identified using the user's browsing history. Long term user interest(s) can be obtained by a weighted aggregation of topic distribution vectors of content items the user accessed. Short term interest can be represented by the topic distribution vector corresponding to a current content item. Using identified user's interests, relevant content items are selected for recommendations for the user.

Abstract: A technique for making versions of rows of a user-defined tracked table temporally queryable. The database management system of the technique permits temporal queries of user-defined tables. The queries return versions of rows in the user-defined table that are currently in an undo log maintained by the database system. Associated with the tracked table are a system history table which contains versions of the rows and temporal metadata indicating when the versions were in the tracked table and a system form history table which contains versions of the form of the tracked table and metadata indicating when the tracked table had the form. These tables are created and maintained by a background process in the database management system. A temporal query on the tracked table combines results from the undo log with results from the system history table. The results' form is determined by the system form history table.

Abstract: Presenting one or more suggested search-engine queries based on an initial search-engine query is described herein. Once the initial query is received, a search engine determines whether any web content is relevant thereto. If not, a query-suggestion service determines whether any suggested queries can be substituted for the initial query. If not, the query is spell-corrected, if necessary, and parsed into individual terms. Each parsed term is then checked to see whether it can be associated with alternative search terms. Terms than can are combined and their combination is also checked for alternative search terms. All of the alternative search terms are scored and then assembled into a list of suggested search terms that is presented to the user.

The relevance score is computed relative to respective relevance scores associated with items in the ranked list. Abstract: A query governor intelligently sets tailored thresholds for a query accessing a computer database. The query governor preferably generates a tailored threshold for each query sent to the database for execution. The tailored threshold for the query is preferably compared to an estimated query execution time to determine whether to execute the query. The query governor uses one or more factors applied to a standard threshold to generate the tailored threshold. The factors preferably include user factors and query factors. These factors are dynamically adjusted by the query governor in an intelligent way to increase optimal use of the database. Other factors may include factors such as job priority factor, resource factor and an application factor.

Deeplink hierarchies may be generated for websites by analyzing web pages within the websites. A deeplink hierarchy for a website includes a hierarchy of nodes with each node including a group of deeplinks to web pages within the website. When a search query is received and a web page result identified, the search query may be employed to identify a relevant node of deeplinks from a deeplink hierarchy for a website corresponding with the web page result. A search result may then be returned for the web page result that includes the identified deeplinks.

Abstract: A computer implemented method for preserving preferred customer digital collage layouts is disclosed. A group of digital images is received from a customer. A compatibility score is calculated for a plurality of the digital collage layouts, where each of the digital collage layouts has a plurality of openings and the openings are populated with some or all of the group of digital images. The customer selects one of the populated digital collage layouts. These steps are repeated with subsequent customers and the selection of the digital collage layouts is tracked. The digital collage layouts are stored and ranked based on how often they are selected by customers.

Abstract: Map tile data for displaying graphic elements of a web-based mapping system in a smart phone or other mobile computing device may be pre-fetched to the device based on device activities. For example, a user activity system may receive user activity data from the mobile device. The user activity system may then extract geographic location data from the user activity data and send the geographic location data to a mapping system via a network connection. The mapping system may then match map tile data to the geographic location data extracted from the user activity data and send the matched map tile data to the mobile computing device for cache storage at the mobile computing device. The user activity system may also analyze the user activity data to determine whether the extracted geographic location data is relevant enough to warrant pre-fetching the tile data.
