Abstract: A method and software to implement a method comprising receiving digital content such as multimedia content, and either ascertaining whether at least a part of the digital content has previously been associated with one or more matched referenced works or searching a store of fingerprint data of referenced works for a match. The searching includes determining a fingerprint of at least part of the digital content, e.g., multimedia content; and searching the store of fingerprint data of referenced works for a match. In the case that is has been ascertained that the work has previously been associated, or the searching has produced a match to one or more matched referenced works, associating association data to the one or more matched referenced works. Ownership data to the matched referenced works is included in the association such that use of the digital content can take into account such ownership rights. The associating of the association data is carried out in a secure manner.

Abstract: An information processing device includes a lock section, a creation section, a transmission section, a reception section, and a release section. The lock section disables an authorization function of the information processing device under a given condition. The creation section creates a first lock release file that is capable of releasing the authorization function disabled by the lock section. The transmission section transmits the first lock release file to an information management device. The reception section receives a second lock release file, which is based on the first lock release file, from the information management device. The release section tries to enable the authorization function of the information processing device when the second lock release file is determined to be valid.

Abstract: A nonintrusive database access monitoring mechanism employs a hybrid approach that disallows, or blocks, the access mediums which are not feasible to intercept or analyze, as well as intercepting and analyzing access mediums for which interception and interrogation is available. Accordingly, various configurations provide the hybrid coverage approach to identifying access mediums, and either block or intercept the access attempts. In this manner, access mediums, such as interprocess communication (IPC) system calls, which may be efficiently intercepted and analyzed are captured and substantively processed, while other access mediums that are excessively burdensome or intrusive to capture are unselectively blocked from any communication, avoiding the need to analyze such access attempts.

Abstract: A system and method for logon access management that includes capturing a logon id and associated user data, the logon id allowing access to at least one of an application or data outside of a entity, automatically searching for a match of at least a portion of the user data with id data inside the entity, and transforming the logon id into a network id when a match is found. The entity may be a company, business, organization, system, or network.

Abstract: Exemplary systems and methods for server management are provided. An exemplary system comprises a plurality of servers, with each server having the ability to access a database or, in some embodiments, be configured to perform a calculation, computation or make a determination of a particular value, values or other information. A communications network delivers queries to each server whereby a look-up table directs query processing by the servers. Further embodiments of the system feature a program logic controller for rebalancing the workload of the network servers. Exemplary methods of processing queries on the system comprise submitting a query to the network, communicating the query to each server in the network and each server looking-up on a look-up table the processing responsibilities of the servers in the network. The query is processed by the server having primary responsibility for processing the query while other the servers monitor query processing.

Abstract: A method is provided for securely enabling dynamic instrumentation. The method includes categorizing probes, upon creation, into one or more classes, providing lists of permissions for activating the probes and associating users with the permissions for activating the probes, such that certain users have permissions for activating certain probes. Users are associated with permissions by mapping classes of probes to permissions and mapping users to permissions, mapping classes of users to probes, or mapping users to at least one of classes of probes and classes of capabilities.

Abstract: A mechanism for automating the process of establishing a resource grid is provided. First, a grid establishment component (GEC) is communicatively coupled to a plurality of nodes, wherein each node provides zero or more resources. Next, the GEC selects which of the nodes to include in a resource grid and establishes the resource grid by configuring each selected node (i.e., grid node) to participate as part of the resource grid. In addition, the GEC establishes one or more grid masters to manage access to the resources provided by the grid nodes. Once the grid nodes are configured, and one or more grid masters are established, the resource grid is ready for regular operation. By automating the grid establishment process, the GEC removes a significant burden from a system administrator, and greatly simplifies and accelerates the process of establishing a resource grid.

Abstract: When receiving a client data access request directed to a first data container serviced by a first federation member, data of the first requested data container may be used to resolve a context identifier and identify a volume location database (VLDB) associated with a second federation member servicing a second data container. A look up request may then be sent to the VLDB to identify one or more locations of the second data container. The client's original data access request illustratively may then be responded to with the identified one or more locations of the second data container.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method, request detector, inference engine, and system for consolidating data from distributed databases into a central database. The method comprises the steps of receiving access information comprising request information to the distributed databases, analyzing the received access information, and aggregating into the central database the data content of the distributed databases in dependence on the analyzed access information.

Abstract: A multimedia server module includes a first transceiver module that modulates an encoded signal to produce a first radio frequency (RF) signal and that transmits the first RF signal to a client module over a first transceiver channel when the first transceiver module is in a transceive mode. The first transceiver module includes a first channel control module that performs a first channel scan when the first transceiver module is in a scan mode, that determines at least one performance parameter of the first transceiver channel and asserts a low performance signal when the at least one performance parameter compares unfavorably to a performance threshold, and that switches the first transceiver module to a selected alternative transceiver channel when the low performance signal is asserted.

Abstract: Generally described, the present invention is directed to a network operating system that provides more effective ways of leveraging the connectivity of computer networks. In one embodiment, an XML virtual machine is implemented that accepts high-level application code written in an XML programming language as input. Functionality is provided to interpret or translate the application code written in an XML programming language into code that is suitable for execution across computer platforms. Moreover, the XML virtual machine supports the Model View Controller (MVC) design paradigm that facilitates true data abstraction from applications to a common data model. Multi-instance applications, with each instance potentially supporting multiple views, may be created and executed.

Abstract: A start date of check-out processing of setting a shared document accessible by a plurality of users via a network into an exclusive state is reserved as a check-out start date based on an instruction of a user. In the exclusive state, the shared document can be updated by the user but cannot be updated by other users. When current date has reached the check-out start date, the shared document is set into the exclusive state for the user. The shared document can be released from the exclusive state in response to an instruction of the user checking-out the shared document. An expected check-in date to release the shared document from the exclusive state after the check-out start date can be reserved. This invention enables reservation for a document operation and prevents any decrease in the operation efficiency of users.

Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, there are provided mechanisms and methods for sharing data across services. These mechanisms and methods for applications to share information even when the applications use different data formats make it possible for business services to operate without any disruption even if the input data stream produced by it's peer business service has been changed.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus store and play licensed digital content in a plurality of files on a computer-readable medium. In addition, a plurality of dummy files are also stored on the computer-readable medium. The file names for the licensed digital content files and the dummy files are generated in a manner such that the licensed digital content files cannot be distinguished from the dummy files. The file names may comprise randomly generated characters, or sequential file names where the sequential file names are randomly assigned to the digital content files and the dummy files.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to methods and systems for building representations of related subjects. The representations may include a plurality of nodes, each being associated with a subject. Users may be able to access records and/or source documents related to a plurality of subjects and add or modify node characteristics based thereon. Users may be able to perform an interaction and/or modification related to a record page. Other users (e.g., users connected to the record page) may be notified of such interaction and/or modification.

Abstract: A mapping scheme is disclosed so that data can be communicated between a relational database and a system that represents data in a manner different than the relational database. In one embodiment, the mapping scheme uses a mapping catalog that identifies attributes, columns and tables in the relational database that store data for the attributes, and relations between tables in order to determine how to access the attributes.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide rapid access to information stored on a personal computing device even though the personal computing device is powered off or otherwise in a low-power consumption state such as a sleep state or hibernation state. An software component gathers user data in a location such as a non-volatile memory associated with a host computer. A browser component accesses the stored data and makes it available to the user when the host computer is powered down or otherwise in a state of low power consumption.

Abstract: A facility for navigating within a body of data using one of a number of distinct browse graphs is described. Initially, a navigation request is received. Based upon information contained in the received navigation request, the facility selects one of the plurality of browse graphs. In response to user input, the facility browses the body of data using the selected browse graph.

Abstract: An apparatus and process for relabelling and redirecting at least some of the read transaction data frames and the write transaction write data and transfer ready frames in a network so as to bypass a storage manager and pass directly between the client and a storage device via a switch. This eliminates the storage manager as a bottleneck. Some embodiments redirect every read and write transaction, and others redirect only large transactions, or only ones not stored in cache or when latency gets too high. Redirection is accomplished by transmission from the storage manager to a switch redirection commands that contain old and new address data. When a frame to be redirected comes in, its address is compared to the old address data. If there is a match, the new address data is substituted and the frame is passed to a conventional routing process to be routed so as to bypass the storage manager.

Abstract: A system and method operable to cache and retrieve flight availability data. System components are a cache database for storing flight availability data, an airline cache control for configuring the cache database for a plurality of airlines, a subscriber cache control for configuring the cache database for a plurality of subscribers, and a cache query utility for interacting with the cache database. Additional system components are a data display utility for displaying flight availability data stored in the cache database, a success rate utility for tracking statistics associated with use of the cache database, and a dual mode processing utility that allows access to flight availability data from either the cache database or a real-time response. The system is provided as an intermediary between the subscribers and a plurality of airline servers.

In one embodiment, a related action is identified based on a context of a work environment from which the request is generated. Abstract: A system, method, and computer-implementable method for aiding file searching within a file service by indexing historical filenames and locations. In response to receiving a request to alter a first name corresponding to a file within the file system to a second name, a file system manager associates the second name to the first name and to the file within the file system data structure. When receiving a request for a file, wherein the request includes the first name, the file system manager searches the file system for the file based on the first name. When determining the search based on the first name is not successful, the file system manager searches the file system data structure for the file based on the second name. When the second name is located within the file system data structure, the file system manager returns the file to fulfill the request.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a program, an information processing method and apparatus, and a data structure with which connection can be formed reliably between apparatuses having different capabilities. A service that can be provided to another party is represented by five dimensional parameters, namely, Access Method, Link Speed, X scale, Y scale, and Audio Codec. The values of the parameters are all represented by integer values. Access Method is represented by number 1 in the case of RTSP/TCP+RTP/UDP, and by number 2 in the case of HTTP tunnelling. Link Speed is normalized by kbps as a base unit, and X scale and Y scale are normalized by 16 pixels as a base unit. Audio Codec supports predetermined methods represented by numbers 0 to 6. The present invention can be applied to a personal computer.

In the client, a functionality of accessing a file system in the shared disk device is installed as part of a user program of the client by using a dynamic link library. The client preferably has access processing means for inserting, as the functionality of accessing, access processing for accessing the file system in the shared disk device into ordinary file access processing. The access processing means being installed as a dynamic link library.

Abstract: The present invention is directed towards systems and methods for managing shortened URLs. The method according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises receiving a request for a shortened URL from a submitting user, said request comprising a first URL. The method then generates a unique shortened URL for said first URL and provides said shortened URL to the submitting user. After a period of time, the method receives a request for the shortened URL from a requesting user. The method then deletes the shortened URL and redirects the requesting user to the first URL.

Abstract: A method for providing reputation information concerning a domain is disclosed. The domain may include one or more devices on a network. The method may include retrieving a first reputation pertaining to a first function of the domain. The method may also include generating a message containing information pertaining to the first reputation and at least a second reputation, wherein the second reputation pertains to a second function of the domain.

Abstract: A system and method for establishing and retrieving data based upon global indices established on the date of first use by a user. The system uses a distributed data name service (DDNS) which uniquely identifies users based upon the unique ID of devices on the system combined with the date and time of first use. Both the unique device ID and the unique user ID's are stored on servers of the system. This unique user ID generated is used for all subsequent uses of the system by the user. Searching for data generated by devices of the system relating to a particular user is accomplished by searching for instances of the user ID on servers of the system rather than by searching for the data itself. A simplified data transport protocol allows for the transfer of data from one location to another after the data is located.

Abstract: A method and system for storage and retrieval of data, such as personal data. In an embodiment of the invention, a distributed network for storage and retrieval of data comprises a plurality of data origin servers, a plurality of credential servers, and an authentication server. Each data origin server is configured to store items of data and corresponding credentials, each credential at least in part identifying an owner of the corresponding item of data. Each credential server is configured to store associations between credentials and data origin servers on which data corresponding to a respective credential is stored. The authentication server is configured to register and authenticate each user based at least in part on the user's associated credential, and to link each authenticated user to respective credential servers storing associations for the user's credential.

Abstract: A method for processing data access in an information management system is disclosed. The information management system includes a plurality of servers and a database. According to the method, a user device connects to a first server. When an access command received from the user device cannot be processed by the first server, the first server writes a user data and an identification data of the user device into the database, and transmits a re-guide address including an address of a second server which can process the access command and the identification data to the user device. The second server retrieves the user data from the database according to the identification data included in the re-guide address, and replies a result of the access command to the user device according to the user data.

Abstract: At least two replicated instances of a source volume are split while allowing clients to access data moved during the split. Clients are redirected to the first replicated instance of the source volume. The first replicated instance is split by first moving files in a split path from the first replicated instance to the target volume. Then, after the files in the split path have been successfully moved to the target volume, a junction is inserted at the split directory to redirect clients to the target volume. After the first replicated instance is split, a second junction replaces the split path on the replicated instance of the first replicated instance.

Abstract: An approach is provided for mapping content, such as audio files, to associated metadata about the content. The approach includes initiating a search for local metadata associated with particular content. It is determined whether the local metadata is insufficient. A request for metadata associated with the particular content is generated, if the local metadata is insufficient. The request is sent to a metadata service to obtain result data including metadata for the particular content. A search of the result data from the metadata service is initiated based on a description of the particular content to obtain most relevant metadata of the result data.

Abstract: According to the invention, a system for downloading audio or video to a browser is disclosed. The system includes a media server, a content database and a web page. The content database includes the content object, and the content database is linked to the media server. The web page presented to the browser and includes a link to the content object. The link avoids activating an autoplay feature of the browsers should the link be activated.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for an alternate lock facility connection path. A request module receives a connection request to establish redundant connection paths between a control unit and a host. A primary connection module establishes a first connection path between the control unit and the host through a first communication channel. A detection module detects a failure of the first connection path. A redirection module redirects communication between the control unit and the host through the second connection path upon detection of a failure of the first connection path.

The mechanism partitions paths so a device can use all or only a subset of available paths to a device, depending on the load of I/O for other devices that are sharing the paths. The partitioning of paths is dynamic, readjusting as I/O loads change for the devices.

Abstract: A method for controlling a data processing device connected to a computer via an interface wherein a device specific command is generated on the computer by an application program, the command is stored in a special file and is then transmitted by the computer to the device with the aid of a write instruction of the computer operating system. The special file is received by the device, the device specific command is read out from the special file and the device processor executes the command. The method allows the device processor to execute a device specific command exclusively using the write instruction of the computer's own operating system without requiring particular administrator rights.

Abstract: One implementation provides a method to provide information associated with a previously designed component having a geometry that is similar to a geometry of a source component. In this implementation, the method includes obtaining a first set of coefficients for a non-invertible representation of the geometry of the source component, and comparing the first set of coefficients to a second set of coefficients for a non-invertible representation of the geometry of the previously designed component. If the first set of coefficients matches the second set of coefficients according to a threshold of similarity, the method further includes providing a search result associated with the previously designed component.

Abstract: Improved techniques are disclosed for accessing content in file systems, allowing file system clients to realize advantages of file system referrals even though a file access protocol used by the client is not specifically adapted for referral objects. (For example, the client may have a legacy file system protocol or a proprietary file system protocol which does not support referrals.) These advantages include a uniform name space view of content in a network file system, and an ability to locate content in a (nearly) seamless and transparent manner, even though the content may be dynamically moved from one location to another or replicated in different locations. A file system server returns a symbolic link in place of a referral, and an automated file mounting process on the client is leveraged to access the content using the link. Built-in crash recovery techniques of the file system client are leveraged to access moved content.

Abstract: Method and system for providing results for task list queries to Workflow Management Systems (WfMSs) and Human Task Management Systems (HTMSs). In one aspect, a method for providing the result of a task list query to a human task database includes caching data from the database in a plurality of materialized views. A new request for a list of tasks from the database is received, and a new query is created when the new request applies to the data in a particular materialized view. When the particular materialized view includes data that requires updating from more recent data in the database, the materialized view is so updated. The new query is executed against the data in the materialized view instead of executing the new query against the data in the database.

Abstract: A multimedia client/server system, prior to transmitting multimedia data over an RF communication link, shares secure access data between the client module. The secure access data is used to securing communication between the server transceiver module and the client transceiver module over the RF communication link.

Abstract: If the storage medium runs out of space when storing clip-target information as clip data, data having higher deletion-target priority than others is deleted from among a plurality of stored data to have empty spaces on the storage medium, and then the new clip-target information is stored. The deletion-target priority is determined based on attribution of a plurality of stored data. In this manner, new clip-target information is stored without user's operation, after automatically deleting data having higher deletion-target priority than others (the deletion-target priority is determined based on attribution of clip data). Therefore it is avoided that important clip data is automatically deleted without a user being notified.

Abstract: Method and system for validating data residing on different servers is provided. The method includes providing a first user interface from a first location, said first user interface providing access to data residing on a server in the first location, a substantial copy of said data made available on a server in a second location; re-directing a user to a second user interface from the second location upon an event in the first location, said second user interface providing access to the validated data on the server in the second location; and initiating a validation mode for validating the substantial copy of the data on the server at the second location upon the event in the first location. A Validator module identifies one or more data added or updated to a metadata on the server at the second location based on said validation parameters; and verifies existence of said identified data in one or more data files on the server at the second location based on said validation parameters.

The panel controller is programmed to implement a database manager for accessing data in the database responsive to requests of the programmed controller, comprising storing a cache of data queries and responsive to a received request for data determining if a query relating to the received request is stored in the cache and returning the stored query, and operating the returned query to access data in the database.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing Remote User Interface (RUI) service are provided. The apparatus includes a service browser module and a virtual RUI server module. The service browser module communicates with a service registry, which is located outside a home network, and provides a service search User Interface (UI) to allow an RUI client, which is located inside a home network, to search for services that are present outside the home network. The virtual RUI server module is responsible for intermediation so that the services present outside the home network can be used through a service UI.
