Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are described for authoring, producing, securing, and/or distributing multiple variations of an instance of a media presentation. For example, one device embodiment includes a processor and memory having instructions executable on the processor. The instructions can allow a producer of media content to define a number of variating dimensions for a media presentation, maintain subscriber variation database tables having records that define subscriber variations in terms of a set of variating dimensions from the number of variating dimensions, maintain media element database tables having records that define media elements in terms of a set of variating dimensions from the number of variating dimensions, and determine which elements and in what order the elements are to be included a variation of an instance of a media presentation.

Abstract: Systems and methods for managing digital assets in a distributed computing environment are described. Meta-data for the digital assets is stored separately from the digital assets. Meta-data for some of the digital assets is copied and stored at a central location. Meta-data for the digital assets is generated by clients of the system.

Abstract: A method of recommending new media to a user based on various information stored and/or collected by, for example, a mobile phone is provided. More particularly, the invention provides a method of recommending new media based on information such as, for example, the content of sent and received text messages, previously viewed sound and/or video clips, location, content of emails, environmental information such as temperature or pressure, etc. Accordingly, the invention facilitates the use of information generated by a user during use of a mobile phone for recommending media to the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for creating a list of media items that are similar to an input mediaset comprising at lease one input media item, optionally together with at least one input parameter that constrains the output in scope or number of items. Media items include music, videos, pictures and other such items that can be associated or grouped together by a human into a list or mediaset. The mediaset is formed by a human applying virtually any objective and/or subjective criteria. Those criteria need not be made explicit; a relation among the selected items is implicit in the list per se. Alternatively, objective criteria such as metadata can be used.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for recording time information for received digital data streams are provided. The method includes recording first time information and second time information on a recording medium. The first time information is part of management data for managing presentation data and the second time information is time information of the presentation data. The format of the first time information coincides with the format of the second time information.

Abstract: A method of generating a media file for display on a display device. The method includes the steps of (a) initializing the media file and an associated index file, the associated index file referencing the media file, and (b) inserting a plurality of video frames from a camera into the media file. The inserting step includes the steps of (i) determining if the media file is configured to accept the plurality of video frames, and (ii) configuring the media file, based on the determination step, such that the plurality of video frames is accepted by the media file.

Abstract: Improved techniques for transferring media assets between a host computer and a media device are disclosed. The transfer of media assets between a host computer and a media device can be referred to as synchronization. According to one aspect of the invention, media assets being transferred can be formatted (e.g., rendered) in advance at the host computer and then delivered to the media device. According to another aspect of the invention, media assets can be grouped into collections and transferred on a collection basis. According to still another aspect of the invention, media assets to be transferred can be limited based on an amount of storage capacity available at the media device. According to yet another aspect of the invention, media assets of different media types can be transferred in accordance with different priorities.
