Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to retrieving and displaying contextually-relevant media content. In some embodiments, a device receives a request to display contextually-relevant media and, in response, displays a representation of a collection of media items relevant to a context of the device. In some embodiments, a device displays a visual media item of a sequence of items and, in response to receiving a swipe gesture, displays a detail user interface comprising related content for the media item. In some embodiments, a device, while displaying a first detail user interface, displays an affordance corresponding to a plurality of individuals identified as having attended a first event, that when selected, causes display of visual media corresponding to a plurality of events attended by the individuals. In some embodiments, a device, in response to user input, obtains an automatically-generated collection of visual media and displays a corresponding affordance.

Abstract: A computing system is configured to analyze historic data generated by an optimization system to provide recommended weightings for placement of creatives on publisher's pages. The weightings may be generated by providing forecasting the likelihood that a particular creative will lead to greater conversion or revenue compared to other creatives. The creatives may be grouped into one or more phases based on the amount of statistical data available for analyzing the particular creatives such that new creatives are given sufficient weighting to receive impressions despite the lack of historical data for a creative. Performance of placed creatives may be tracked by the passing of URLs with information attached to identify the particular creative and placement.

Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for retrieving and presenting related content using text stream data feeds. Text stream data feeds such as caption information associated with media content or conversations associated with social networking applications are aggregated and used to retrieve related media content, text documents, and advertisements. Text stream data feeds that a user is exposed to may indicate that the user is interested or at least primed for particular types of related content. In particular examples, an inverse vector space search engine is used to determine particular pieces of related content and categories of interest. Post filtering may also be applied to the results.

Abstract: An approach provides distributed editing and storage of digital media. Video information is retrieved during recording of the video information to a video file. The video information is edited during the recording of the video information. An index file for the media is generated during the recording of the media, wherein the index file include indices for decoding the media; and periodically updating the index file throughout the recording of the media. After completion of the recording of the media, another index file is generated corresponding to the media for inclusion into the media file.

Abstract: Techniques for indexing multimedia data simultaneous with its capture to convert a real world event into an accessible database in real time are provided. The present invention introduces a new paradigm of converting a real world event in real time into a rich multimedia database by processing data from multiple cameras observing the event. Real time analysis of the camera data, coupled with domain knowledge, results in instant indexing of multimedia data at capture time itself. This yields the semantic information to answer complex queries about the content, and the ability to extract portions of data that correspond to complex actions performed in the real world.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for automatically analyzing multimedia data are disclosed. Embodiments receive multimedia data, detect portions having specified features, and output a corresponding subset of the multimedia data. Content features from downloaded or streaming movies or video clips are identified as a human probably would do, but in essentially real time. Embodiments then generate an index or menu based on individual consumer preferences. Consumers can peruse the index, or produce customized trailers, or edit and tag content with metadata as desired. The tool can categorize and cluster content by feature, to assemble a library of scenes or scene clusters according to user-selected criteria. The results may be sent to visual search engines so that further related content may be identified for use as a customized trailer, replacement content for advertisements, or as material to be shared with others.

Abstract: Techniques described herein enable searching for multimedia content and for downloading or scheduling the recording of the multimedia content. The multimedia content may have been previously stored on one or more databases. The client device may download or schedule the recording of multimedia content in one step, for example, in one touch. When desired multimedia content is not available, the multimedia content is added to the client device's wish list. When the client device's does not have a wish list, the client device's wish list may be created on the spot. During the scheduling of the recording, a tag associated with the multimedia content is checked to determine whether the multimedia content is live or delayed. When the tag indicates the multimedia content is live or delayed, the client device prompts with a suggestion to add extra time to the end of the recording of the multimedia content.

Abstract: Computer-implemented method, system, and techniques for summarization, searching, and indexing of video are provided, wherein data related to objects detected in the video in a selected time interval is received and the objects are clustered into clusters such that each cluster includes objects that are similar in respect to a selected feature or a combination of features. A video summary is generated based on the computed clusters.

Abstract: A method of playing a rich content stream that includes a media stream and a descriptive stream. The method may include the steps of receiving the rich content stream at a media player, where the descriptive stream is generated from a rich content file executed separately from a source for the media stream, and where the media stream and the descriptive stream are received as separate streams at the media player. The method may also include synchronizing the media stream and the descriptive stream at the media player so that information in the descriptive stream is temporally synchronized with media content playing from the media stream. In addition the method may include activating the playing of the descriptive stream while the media stream is playing on the media player, where descriptive content from the descriptive stream is not played on the media player until being activated by a user.

Abstract: Method and system for building a support vector machine binary tree for fast object search. An appearance model can be generated for objects in a database and computed on regions detected in an image frame. A covariance matrix can be utilized for representing the appearance model of the detected regions. The covariance matrix appearance model can be preprocessed and/or transferred into a vector-based format. The data in the vector-based format can be added with a class label to form labeled data. A support vector machine (SVM) can be utilized on the labeled data to generate a classifier with an optimal hyperplane and a margin area in order to hierarchically build a balanced SVM binary tree. A query appearance model can be searched rapidly utilizing the SVM binary tree during a search phase.

Abstract: A system and method for effectively implementing a personal channel for interactive television comprises a personal channel manager that may include a configuration module, a search module, and a content packaging module. A system user may utilize the configuration module to perform a personal channel configuration procedure to specify personal channel configuration data for performing a content record search procedure. The search module may manage the content record search procedure according to one or more search parameters that may be defined during the personal channel configuration procedure. The search module finds content records from content databases during the foregoing content record search procedure. The content packaging module coordinates a content record sorting procedure according to user-specified sorting criteria.

Abstract: A single playlist can be generated that includes both songs and music videos. Additionally, a song on a playlist can be identified and a check made as to whether a music video corresponding to the identified song is available. If a music video corresponding to the identified song is not available, then the identified song is played back. However, if a music video corresponding to the identified song is available, then the music video is played back instead of the identified song.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example network device having a controller to receive multiple streams of content for portions of a multimedia work, perform a high level analysis for features in each of the streams for the multimedia work, perform a specialized analysis on the portion having a detected general feature to generate a content analysis output, correlate the content analysis output with other content analysis of the multimedia work, and output a weighted content description based on the correlation function. Abstract: The present invention relates to a multimedia data decoding method and apparatus. The decoding method includes receiving multimedia data including a data area including a plurality of media data areas each corresponding to a plurality of media data; and a media information area including a plurality of track areas each corresponding to the plurality of media data areas; reading the media information area; extracting timing information for sequentially reproducing the media data comprised in the media data area, from the track area; and reproducing the media data, using the media data of the data area and the extracted timing information. According to the present invention, the multimedia data decoding method and apparatus has an effect of being capable of constructing a slide show by only a small amount of multimedia data. Thus, a time taken to process and transmit the multimedia data can reduce.

Abstract: A universal video-related lookup system and method receives a request for information associated with specific video content from a requesting device. The system and method identify a first video content identifier associated with the specific video content and retrieves first metadata associated with the specific video content based on the first video content identifier. Next, the system and method translate the first video content identifier into a second video content identifier associated with the specific video content and retrieves second metadata based on the second video content identifier. The first metadata and the second metadata are then provided to the requesting device.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes the following elements. A feature amount extraction unit extracts feature amounts from a content block. An extraction unit extracts predetermined scenes from the content block using the feature amounts extracted by the feature amount extraction unit. An acquisition unit acquires information for retrieving the content block. A retrieval unit retrieves a scene that meets the information acquired by the acquisition unit from among the scenes extracted by the extraction unit. Abstract: Context data can be used to determine the current context and/or to predict the future context of a user. When the disclosed technology knows of the user's likely context, it can prepare for object recognition (e.g., image recognition, speech recognition, etc.) by (downloading and) locally storing (i.e., holding) object data related to the context. This allows for the object recognition to be performed locally and for any additional information about the object to be provided without communication over a network, thereby reducing resources such as time, cost, and processing power. If, however, the object data related to the context is not available locally, such object data can still be downloaded from a server/cloud. In some embodiments, if a likely future context is predicted and the object data related to that future context is not available locally, the object data can be downloaded from a server/cloud prior to the future context.

The user analysis module determines the topics associated with the interacted upon content items. The user analysis module then selects the topics for the user's profiles based on the received tracked data and the associated topics. The selected topics are stored in association with the user profile.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a computer-implemented method uses one or more search references to identify media items that correspond with the one or more search references and one or more individuals associated with each media item. The method of one embodiment provides a searching and identification service that uses one or more images as one or more search key inputs to identify relevant images of a media collection, including associating information of any depicted individuals with search key inputs. Abstract: Generating smart tags that allow a user to locate any portion of image content without viewing the image content is disclosed. Image-based processing is performed on image content to find an event of interest that is an occurrence captured by the image content. Thus, metadata is derived from analyzing the image content. The metadata is then analyzed. Different types of characteristics associated with portions of the image content as indicated by the metadata are detected. Responsive to this, tags are created, and different types of tags are applied to the portions of image content to categorize the portions into classes. Thus, a tag is associated with each portion of the image content including the event of interest. The tag describes a characteristic of that portion of the image content. Display of the different types of tags is initiated for selective viewing of the portions of the image content.

Abstract: A system, method and various software tools enable a video hosting website to automatically identified unlicensed audio content in video files uploaded by users, and initiate a process by which the user can replace the unlicensed content with licensed audio content. An audio replacement tool is provided that enables the user to permanently mute the original, unlicensed audio content of a video file, or select a licensed audio file from a collection of licensed audio, and insert the selected in place of the original audio. Where a video file includes unlicensed audio, the video hosting website provides access to video files to a client device, along with an indication to the client device to mute the audio during playback of the video.

Abstract: A system and method that provides a hosted network video guide application. The guide application is provided as a service to web portals and other websites that wish to expose access to the video content available on a public network such as the Internet. The operation of the guide includes mechanisms for search application hosting and processes for content gathering. Video index information can be derived from random content owners, guide affiliates, proactively gathered public domain content, and proactively harvested video content from the network via a video spidering mechanism. The video index information can be collected and maintained in a hosted, centralized repository and made available via an application interface, which can be customized, to users of the network. The video spidering mechanism generates an index of each accessed video, and the index is committed to the guide repository along with the URL information of the video being indexed.

Each tag type in the hierarchy represents a characteristic associated with the image content. Each tag in the hierarchy is derived based on image-based processing applied to the image content. In response to receiving a selection of at least one tag in the hierarchy, display of the image content associated with the at least one tag is initiated. A user is able to quickly and easily find desired image content by using the hierarchy to look at tags, select a type of tag from the hierarchy, and thereafter view any content tagged with the selected tag type.

Abstract: A computing system creates and stores semantic metadata on content, such as videos, that enables efficient searching of the content. The existing metadata of a video file, for example, is examined and a keyword list is created. The processes used to derive the keyword list may depend on the type and format of the existing metadata. The keywords from the list are compared against external structured knowledge data sources that are topic oriented. Based on these comparisons and the matches found, semantic data, including topic, topic type, and attribute data are inserted into a topic table. This uniform and structured table is stored on the computing system and is efficiently searchable for finding relevant videos and for finding relationships between videos.
