  • Publication number: 20100106692
Abstract: The present application addresses a fundamental problem in the design of computing systems, that of minimising the cost of memory access. This is a fundamental limitation on the design of computer systems as regardless of the memory technology or manner of connection to the processor, there is a maximum limitation on how much data can be transferred between processor and memory in a given time, this is the available memory bandwidth and the limitation of compute power by available memory bandwidth is often referred to as the memory-wall. The solution provided creates a map of a data structure to be compressed, the map representing the locations of non-trivial data values in the structure (e.g. non-zero values) and deleting the trivial data values from the structure to provide a compressed structure.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method, system, and a computer readable article of manufacture identify local patterns in at least one time series data stream. A data stream is received that comprises at least one set of time series data. The at least one set of time series data is formed into a set of multiple ordered levels of time series data. Multiple ordered levels of hierarchical approximation functions are generated directly from the multiple ordered levels of time series data. A set of approximating functions are created for each level. A current window with a current window length is selected from a set of varying window lengths. The set of approximating functions created at one level in the multiple ordered levels is passed to a subsequent level as a set of time series data. The multiple ordered levels of hierarchical approximation functions are stored into memory after being generated.

Abstract: A system, method and computer-readable medium are disclosed for identifying representative data using sketches. The method embodiment comprises generating a plurality of vectors from a data set, modifying each of the vectors of the plurality of vectors and selecting one of the plurality of generated vectors according to a comparison of a summed distance between a modified vector associated with the selected generated vector and remaining modified vectors. Modifying the generated vectors may involve reduced each generated vector to a lower dimensional vector. The summed distance then represents a summed distance between the lower dimensional vector and remaining lower dimensional vectors.
