  • Publication number: 20100049770
Abstract: A computer-implemented method is provided, which includes constructing first and second user profiles for respective first and second users, by observing respective online behaviors of the first and second users. The first and second user profiles are projected onto an N-dimensional vector space as respective first and second vectors. An interaction between the first and second vectors in the vector space is modeled. Responsively to the modeled interaction, at least one entity is modified, the entity selected from the group consisting of: the first user profile, and the first vector. Content is presented to the first user responsively to the modified entity. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for identifying candidate synonyms of transliterated terms for query expansion. In one aspect, a method includes identifying multiple transliterated terms in a target language. For each transliterated term of the multiple transliterated terms in the target language, the transliterated term is mapped to one or more terms in a source language. For a first transliterated term of the multiple transliterated terms in the target language, one or more second transliterated terms of the multiple transliterated terms in the target language are identified as candidate synonyms of the first transliterated term, where each of the one or more second transliterated terms is mapped to at least one term in the source language that is also mapped from the first transliterated term.

Abstract: Methods, articles of manufacture and systems for searching collections of data using context sensitive expanded term searching using dynamic term expansion are provided. The collection of data may be a relational database, text document, or any other type of searchable collection of data. In either case, a query including a search condition based on a specified search term may be modified to include additional conditions based on a set of expanded (e.g., conceptually-related) search terms dynamically linked with the query. For some embodiments, a user may be given the ability to choose whether the set of expanded search terms are dynamically linked with the query or not.

Abstract: In a search support server, a related word extraction unit generates frequency information and co-occurrence information of keywords, a graph generation unit generates coordinate information of a spring graph including the keywords as nodes, on the basis of the co-occurrence information, a cluster generation unit groups the nodes into clusters and thereby generates cluster definition information, and a display information generation unit generates display information of the spring graph. In addition, an operation determination unit determines which operation is performed on the spring graph. Then, when a level change is instructed, the display information generation unit generates display information of the spring graph after the level is changed. When a node change is instructed, a cluster re-generation unit changes the cluster definition information and the frequency information.

Abstract: A system and method enable semi-automated generation of query expansion rules for searching a knowledge base. Candidate synonymy pairs are automatically extracted from queries made by users when searching a knowledge base. Synonymy rules are defined, based on the extracted candidate synonymy pairs, and may be context dependent. Query expansion rules based on the defined synonymy rules can then be exported to a storage medium for use in expansion of new user queries when searching the knowledge base.

Abstract: Domain specific topics, and optionally uniform resource locators (URLs) can be received from a user, and from those domain specific topics and URLs, domain tuned search definitions are generated for a given domain. The domain tuned search definitions are saved and the user is provided with a definition of a domain tuned search interface that is embedded on a site specified by the user. When someone reviewing the user's web site performs a search using the domain tuned, embedded search interface, a search engine is invoked which performs a search on the user's input query, and then returns domain specific search results. The search engine searches for domain specific search results over web sites in addition to the web site that the user is currently reviewing, so the search is more precise than a general web search but broader than a specific site search.

A search engine is provided to allow potential customers to locate business profile pages, the search engine dependent upon the sum of points awarded to businesses on the network for performing various business related tasks. The search results may be provided in a format wherein brick and mortar businesses geographically local to the searcher are provided in one dataset while eCommerce search results are provided in another. Further, the present system through link swapping provides a means to increase the ranking of the business profile page on popular public search engines. Finally, a means is provided wherein business owners with large consumer lists can take part in targeted marketing to subsets of the list wherein the marketing occurs at a steady rate so the business minimizes large spikes in responses.

After a user searches for another user in a social network, the webpage or blog of the queried user is retrieved, and keywords are extracted from this webpage. The keywords may be extracted from the user's profile on the social network (e.g., favorite sports, music artists, etc.), or keywords may be extracted from the text of the webpage (e.g., comments that comprise the blog entries). Once extracted, these keywords may then be used by an advertising system to provide targeted advertisements to the user.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates filtering outbound content via inference detection. During operation, the system identifies content sent to a first address and extracts keywords from the identified content. The system then issues queries based on these keywords and extracts expected-content keywords from the hits returned in response to the queries. The system then searches the outbound content for occurrences of the expected-content keywords and produces a result which allows a user to determine whether the outbound content is proper. In a further embodiment, the system extracts keywords from a piece of outbound content, and issues queries based on these keywords. The system then extracts keywords from the hits, and present at least one keyword to a user, thereby allowing the user to determine whether the outbound content is proper.

The user terminals (21) are added to a set of found user terminals, and if the set of found user terminals comprises n or more user terminals (21), the upper limit (24) of the search range is adjusted to the nth lowest distance. Abstract: A method and system is provided to access one or more historical incident databases, for example, CDC, CPSC, DTI, AAPCC and the like, for standardizing the potentially differing categories and coding among the databases. The standardizing includes recoding of the categories by providing a unified set of categories reflective of similar categories found among the one or more databases, if any. Submission of search queries allows users to obtain unified data across the databases so that incident history statistics for one or more products tracked by commonly available databases may be easily acquired. The resulting reports and statistics may be used by various entities to understand historical incidents from multiple perspectives including, for example, injury and fatality statistics as a function of age group, type of injury, time periods, diagnosis, injury outcome, severity, and the like. Data may be presented in standardized formats or in any of the native database formats.

Abstract: Hyperlinking or associating documents to other documents based on the names of people in the documents has become more desirable. Although there is an automated system for installing such hyperlinks into judicial opinions, the system is not generally applicable to other types of names and documents, nor well suited to determine hyperlinks for names that might refer to two or more similarly named persons. Accordingly, the inventor devised systems, methods, and software that facilitate hyperlinking names in documents, regardless of type. One exemplary system includes a descriptor module and a linking module. The descriptor module develops descriptive patterns for selecting co-occurent document information that is useful in recognizing associations between names and professional classes.
