Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for resolving a name request in a network comprising a plurality of groups that use different name-resolution schemes. During operation, the system receives, at a first group, the name request; identifies a parent group of the first group, which is a member of the parent group; and in response to failing to resolve the name request within the first group, forwards the name request to the identified parent group.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include systems and methods for insuring better query consistency between at least two different databases, where one faster database has more up-to-date information than another slower database, and wherein updates are typically applied to the faster database first and then to the slower database. In embodiments, the systems and methods also insure that a query to the slower database is not performed until a set of one or more updates from the faster database have been applied to that slower database.

Abstract: A method and system for intelligent electronic information processing with cloud computing. The method and system include selecting one or more portions of a set of electronic information including any unwanted portions that have been reviewed and are to be eliminated from display. The selected portions are recorded on a cloud computing network in a cloud computing object thereby eliminating any unwanted previously reviewed portions of the set of electronic information from display with display of any additional sets of electronic information. The previously reviewed portions without the reviewed and unwanted portions are available to and across plural network devices and across plural login accounts anywhere on the cloud computing network.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer program products to perform an operation comprising receiving, by a web server, a client request specifying to access a first object identified by a first uniform resource locator (URL), determining that the first object is not accessible at the first URL, assessing a similarity between each of the plurality of objects with respect to the first object, selecting a second object, of the plurality of objects, based on the assessed similarity to the first object as compared to the assessed similarity of each of the other objects of the plurality of objects relative to the first object, generating a redirect response specifying a second URL corresponding to the second object, and transmitting the redirect response to the client.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided herein for the analysis of information about online actions of a plurality of users. The analysis methods and systems allow for the creation of new online and offline business methods based on online consumer behavior. The methods and systems may obtain an input data set comprising information about online actions of a plurality of users, convert the input data set into data files having a common file format with each data file corresponding to a user of the plurality of users and comprising an identifier for the user and a plurality of Uniform Resource Locations (URLs) associated with online actions of the user, access online information relating to search terms and webpages, and determine one or more metrics of user behavior, including a “verticals” metric and a “search terms” metric.

Abstract: A method is described that involves offering a user different persistent scope choices including: a) internal to a computing system that the deployment descriptor is to be sent to; and, b) external to the computing system that the deployment descriptor is to be sent to. The method also involves offering a user different persistence frequency choices including: a) persisting per request; and, b) persisting per session state information attribute change. The method also involves generating a deployment descriptor that reflects the user's choice of the persistence scope and persistence frequency.

At least one cell contains a cell entry, displaying a filter icon within at least one cell of the cell set, and applying a filter to the cell set in response to selection of the filter icon by a user.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, and computer program product for requesting resources. The computer receives an assignment of an Internet protocol address. The computer compares a computer context of a client computer with an intranet access criterion to form a comparison result. The computer selects at least one preferred uniform resource identifier based on the comparison result, indicating the intranet is accessible. The computer transmits a request to a server using at least one preferred uniform resource identifier using a packet network.

Abstract: In a CP server, when a copyright determination unit determines that requested content is copyrighted content, a set up unit sets up a copyrighted content public URL comprising information that can specify a memory region where copyrighted content is stored, and corresponding to a content delivery request by a cellular phone, a transmission unit transmits the copyrighted content public URL together with the copyrighted content, to the cellular phone. Then, a cellular phone acquires the copyrighted content public URL together with the copyrighted content, and attaches the copyrighted content public URL to an electronic mail message which is transmitted to another cellular phone. The other cellular phone can use the received copyrighted content public URL to request the CP server to deliver the copyrighted content.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for receiving a request for a Uniform Resource Locator (URL), determining the URL is broken, retrieving query data from a first database mapping the broken URL to the query data and retrieving one or more substitute URLs from a second database mapping the broken URL to the query data.

Abstract: The keyword extraction technique described herein extracts keywords from Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) in web logs. The technique leverages the content and the structure of URLs to extract relevant keywords. First, a URL is divided into multiple components based on its structure. A set of keywords are extracted from each component of the URL independently with the help of a controlled vocabulary. Then a second set of keywords are generated by forming combinations of terms from different segments of the URL. Only those combinations which are present in the controlled vocabulary are retained as keywords. Finally, the keywords are scored with a function which took into account of a wide set of features.

Abstract: As provided herein, a pairwise distance between nodes in a large graph can be determined efficiently. URL-sketches are generated for respective nodes in an index by extracting labels from respective nodes, which provide a reference to a link between the nodes, aggregating the labels into sets for respective nodes, and storing the sets of labels as URL-sketches. Neighborhood-sketches are generated for the respective nodes in the index using the URL-sketches, by determining a neighborhood for a node and generating a sketch using labels that are associated with the respective neighboring nodes. A distance between two nodes is determined by computing an approximate number of paths and an approximate path length between the two nodes, using the neighborhood sketches for the two nodes.

Abstract: System, method and computer program for initiating a search at a server computer. A data base including a URL of the server computer is stored at a client computer. Information entered by a user into the client computer is received. From the information, a search term and the URL of the server computer are identified. Then, an HTTP search request which includes the URL of the server computer and the search term is generated. Then, the HTTP search request is sent to the server computer. The identifying of the URL of the server computer comprises searching the data base for a character string contained in the information that matches the URL of the server computer. The identifying of the search term comprises identifying a portion of the information appended to the URL of the server. The identifying of the search term also comprises omitting from the portion one or more symbols adjacent to the search term which are inconsistent with a search request using HTTP.

Abstract: In a web crawler, a URL selection module selects URLs for pages to be downloaded. The URL selection module accesses an interaction data store that stores interaction data for web pages, including interaction data that indicates human interactions with the pages. To reduce the effects of link farms, the URL selection module filters the URLs to select only those URLs that have human interaction histories and provides the selected URLs to a download module for web page downloading.

Abstract: A transformation engine and transformation processes may reduce computational resources used by a client or a server, such as during the consumption of a document. According to some implementations, a data stream is received in a first format over a network. A mapping template may be associated with the data stream. A forward-traversal of the mapping template may be performed without the accumulation of an intermediate state. Following the traversal of the mapping template, an output stream is emitted in a second format.

Abstract: A data collector may monitor a data source and identify updated data, which may be processed and prepared for inclusion into a search database. The data collector may have various handlers that may interact with a data source, which may be a database, web service, file system, collaboration system, or other source, and may store a identifying signature and content signature for each document or item. The signatures may be used to identify new, changed, or deleted items, and a payload may be created containing the updates.

Abstract: A client computing device receives a search request including an identifier and an identifier prefix. The computing device determines the identifier prefix and generates a uniform resource locator (URL) corresponding to the identifier prefix by inserting the identifier into a template such that the URL is configured to facilitate a specific request depending on the determined identifier prefix. Alternatively, a client computing device receives a search request and retrieves a search result comprising a uniform resource identifier (URI) having a domain name. The client computing device generates a hyperlink corresponding to the search result, the hyperlink effecting access of additional information related to a resource indicated by the URI having the domain name. The computing device generates enhanced search results by combining the search result and the hyperlink.

Abstract: An information retrieval system is described herein that monitors a microblog data stream that includes microblog posts to discover and index fresh resources for searching by a search engine. The information retrieval system also uses data from the microblog data stream as well as data obtained from a microblog subscription system to compute novel and effective features for ranking fresh resources which would otherwise have impoverished representations. An embodiment of the present invention advantageously enables a search engine to produce a fresher set of resources and to rank such resources for both relevancy and freshness in a more accurate manner.

Abstract: A model generated from search log data predicts a hidden state based on a query to determine a context of the query, such as for providing re-ranked search results, query suggestions and/or URL recommendations.

Abstract: One embodiment is a method that receives a seed Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that represents a category for website classification. Clickstream data generated from the seed URL and additional URLs are analyzed to determine whether the additional URLs belong to the category. The method selects one or more of the additional URLs to represent the category.

Abstract: An intelligent caching system is described herein that intelligently consolidates the name-value pairs in content requests containing query strings so that only substantially non-redundant responses are cached, thereby saving cache proxy resources. The intelligent caching system determines which name-value pairs in the query string can affect the redundancy of the content response and which name-value pairs can be ignored. The intelligent caching system organically builds the list of relevant name-value pairs by relying on a custom response header or other indication from the content server. Thus, the intelligent caching system results in fewer requests to the content server as well as fewer objects in the cache.

Abstract: A system and method for providing Web search results to a particular computer user based on the popularity of the search results with other computer users is described. One embodiment monitors, using one or more servers, at least one Web service for new actions of sharing of Web content by computer users; identifies, from the new actions of sharing of Web content by computer users, a data item that satisfies predetermined interestingness criteria; parses the data item to obtain at least one Uniform Resource Locator (URL); crawls at least one Web page corresponding to the at least one URL to obtain the content of the at least one Web page; analyzes the content of the at least one Web page; and updates an index based on the content of the at least one Web page, the index being usable in processing a Web search query from a particular user.

An assignor component automatically assigns a uniform resource identifier to the file responsive to the receiver component receiving the computing event with respect to the file, wherein at least a portion of content of the file is reviewable by way of a web browser through utilization of the uniform resource identifier.

Abstract: An electronic device includes an audio playing module, an audio file analyzing module, an image fetching module and a display. The audio playing module is used for playing an audio file. The audio file analyzing module is capable of analyzing a tag corresponding to the audio file to obtain a keyword associated with the audio file. The image fetching module is capable of acquiring an image corresponding to the audio file according to the keyword. The display is capable of displaying the image when the audio file is being played by the audio playing module.

Abstract: Methods and systems for automated retrieval of content embedded in or referred to in a message received in a user account are provided. A UCM and/or a UCR may access a user account and retrieve a message from the account. The message may be then analyzed to extract information related to the content that may be included in the message. The content associated with the extracted information is accessed and retrieved. The retrieved content is presented to the user.

Abstract: A plurality of geographic locations can be individually associated with separate web pages by identifying and placing in a database geographic specific content. By linking geographic location to specific content housed within the database and then using that content to populate a hypertext markup language (HTML) web page template, a plurality of individual customized web pages can be created that are both indexable and extractable. Each level of data within the database comprises geographic specific data common to a region or location that is the focus of the web page. The structured nature of the database data enables web crawlers or indexers which are associated with various search engines to identify each specific level by way of the particular file much like that of a link within an existing web page.

Abstract: A method for linking between a multimedia data element (MMDE) and a web page. The method comprises receiving a MMDE from a source; generating a signature representative of the MMDE using a signature generator; matching the generated signature with a plurality of signatures stored in a database to find at least one matching signature; extracting a universal resource locator (URL) of a web page associated with the matching signature, wherein the URL is part of a metadata of the matching signature; and providing the URL to the source over a network.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for providing persistent storage of Web resources. Uniform Resource Locators (“URLs”) that identify Web resources are augmented to include a time stamp. A web browser and a web server are disclosed that accommodate a time stamp parameter and allow a user to refer to any Web address with a precise target date. The disclosed Web browser can optionally include a mechanism to facilitate the specification of the desired date and time, or the user can manually append the time stamp to the URL indicated in the “Location” window of the browser. The persistent Web servers (i) receive URLs containing a time stamp, (ii) extract the time stamp, (iii) retrieve the correct Web page from the archive, and (iv) return the requested page to the client. The persistent Web servers include a persistent archive for storing all of the versions of Web resources that will be persistently available to Web users.

Abstract: A tagging structure is used in web pages to identify content in such web pages that can be dragged and dropped into a wireless device when such web pages are rendered as a component of a web page served by a media management service.

Abstract: A system for information retrieval from a collection of hypermedia data over a distributed network is presented. The system includes a data storage system that is a collection of hypermedia data. The collection of hypermedia data also has a number of hyperlinks to items of hypermedia content, and the hyperlinks are each respectively associated with at least one code value generated based on the content of the respective hypermedia content. The system also includes an application that receives progressive user input and iteratively build a user search code value according to the user input. It matches the user search code value to at least a portion of the hypermedia content code value for the hyperlinks in the data storage to identify each such associated hyperlink to a particular information retrieval data set.

Abstract: A system of reducing the possibility of crawling duplicate document identifiers partitions a plurality of document identifiers into multiple clusters, each cluster having a cluster name and a set of document parameters. The system generates an equivalence rule for each cluster of document identifiers, the rule specifying which document parameters associated with the cluster are content-relevant. Next, the system groups each cluster of document identifiers into one or more equivalence classes in accordance with its associated equivalence rule, each equivalence class including one or more document identifiers that correspond to a document content and having a representative document identifier identifying the document content.

Abstract: Messages which are provided to an application are monitored. Similarities between the messages are determined based on a distance algorithm, in one approach, and messages which are similar are assigned to a common group. For example, the messages may be HTTP messages which include a URL, HTTP header parameters and/or HTTP post parameters. The messages are parsed to derive a string which is used in the distance calculations. Additionally, application runtime data such as response times is obtained and aggregated for the group. Further, a representative message can be determined for each group for comparison to subsequent messages. Results can be reported which include a group identifier, representative message, count and aggregated runtime data.

Abstract: A double link search system, which when a user inputs a search keyword in a wire or wireless network and inquires out search results, provides the user with a link page displaying a sentence starting with the search keyword, comprises means for receiving a search request including a search keyword from a user terminal; means for collecting search results corresponding to the search keyword from information sites; means for storing a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) of each information site where the search results are located and a unique URL of a search server corresponding to the URL of each information site; means for generating a search result page including search result items, each item having the URL of the search server; and means for providing the user terminal with the search result page.

Abstract: Data characterizing contact information for an individual is obtained. Thereafter, the contact information is associated with a company identifier for a company. A remote data source is then polled to obtain at least one graphical image characterizing a logo for the company so that a virtual business card containing the at least one graphical image and the contact information can be generated and displayed. In some implementations, other information from a remote data source can be used to generate a background portion of a virtual business card. Abstract: A system and method for data privacy in URL based context queries. A reference to a data object is received from a user. At least one entity that controls the data object is identified via the network. At least one permission for the data object is retrieved via the network, wherein the permission is associated with the entity that controls the data object. It is then determined, via the network, if the user is permitted to access to the data object using the permission for the data object and spatial data, temporal data social data and logical data available to the network that relates to the user and to the permission for the data object. If the user is permitted access to the data object, access is granted to the data object, and if the user is nor permitted access to the data object, access is denied to the data object.

Abstract: Log-based rankers and document-based rankers may be combined for searching. In an example embodiment, there is a method for combining rankers to perform a search operation. A count of query instances in log data is ascertained based on a query. A search for the query is performed to produce a set of search results. The set of search results is ranked by relevance score with a document-based ranker and a log-based ranker using a weighting factor that is adapted responsive to the count of the query instances in the log data.

Abstract: A method of collecting information of interest to a user regarding multimedia content is described. The method may include receiving first content about the information of interest to the user among the multimedia content, collecting metadata of the first content by using a uniform resource identifier (URI) of the first content, extracting at least one first information object including a schema according to a search category from the metadata, and storing the first information object in a first database.

Abstract: Techniques for facilitating the sharing of metadata. In one set of embodiments, a metadata document is referenced by a plurality of software applications as a URL, the URL comprising a protocol component identifying a specialized protocol name and a path component identifying a name and namespace of the metadata document. The specialized protocol name indicates that the metadata document is a shared document stored in a shared metadata repository. When an application in the plurality of software applications needs to access the metadata document, the URL is passed to a URL resolver configured to identify the shared metadata repository based on configuration information associated with the application. The metadata document is then retrieved from the shared metadata repository.

Abstract: A method, terminal, server and system for processing the notification message are disclosed. According to the method, the server transmits the notifying message with description information. The description information contains the parameter; the terminal parses the notifying message after receiving the notifying message. The description message may contain one or more parameter, thereby providing more messages through the notifying message to the terminal, making the terminal user getting the wanted information quickly. After the description message is added to the notifying message, the terminal can perform a variety of processes on the received notifying message.

Abstract: A system and method for providing a predictive browser type-ahead that performs server queries of computer file directory listings in order to locate and present matching Universal Resources Locator (URL) extensions as the URL is entered into the browser. The predictive type-ahead provides matching URL entries into the browser for user selection. The predictive type-ahead also continually validates the browser entries as they are made.

Abstract: When a mobile telephone requests a web server for HTML page data containing a link, the server generates an identifier and appends the identifier to the link. An HTML page containing the link with the appended identifier is generated by the web server and is transmitted from the web server to the mobile telephone. If content at the link destination of the link is requested by the mobile telephone, then the content is transmitted to the mobile telephone and an access log entry is recorded at the web server. The access log entry includes the identifier and the content request. In a case where identifiers are found to be in common, the number of times this content was accessed (requested) is construed to be a single time. Even if a single item of content is divided into multiple portions and requested multiple times, the number of times this content was accessed is treated as being a single time. The number of times access was performed can be calculated comparatively accurately.

Abstract: An information delivery software application that employs “pop-up” software application technology installed on a user's computer to deliver changing content selected by the computer user. In the present application, the pop-up technology that is used to deliver to the consumer in a controlled and constructive manner to deliver content the user specifically requests, and on a regular schedule that the user has set and can change at will. The content may be data files, including text, audio files, video files, image files, RSS feeds, instant messages, Web pages, Internet hyperlinks and can itself contain links to other data files. Each delivery of content to an end-user is captured and logged as a data exchange event that can be tracked by the deliverer of the content.

Abstract: A contact information function associated with a web browser maintains a look-up table of recognizer functions, indexed by regular expressions that specify URLs. Upon a user entering or selecting a URL, the contact information function indexes the look-up table with the URL against the regular expressions. If one or more recognizers are found, the web content returned from the URL is processed by each of the recognizers, which recognize the format of information on that web site, and locate and extract contact information from the web content. The contact information may be saved, formatted, and output to other applications. Updated recognizers may be downloaded from a recognizer server.

Abstract: A search server is provided to conduct a search in response to a web request received from a computing terminal and deliver a web page, including any search results, back to the computing terminal in response to the web request. Telecom data obtained by the search server is used to access supplemental information, which is used to retrieve the web page information used to generate the web page. The supplemental information may be used to select advertisements for the web page. The search server may also use the supplemental information to modify or further narrow a search query, which was provided in the web request, to obtain search results based on the supplemental information and the search query. The supplemental information may be selected based on telecom data associated with the user or the computing terminal from which the request or search query was received.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling a user to access media objects, such as images, from a website without requiring the user to enter the website. In one embodiment, a search engine searches for websites that match a submitted search term. A selected URL to one of the resulting websites is submitted to a harvester that accesses a web page of the selected website and identifies a media object of the web page. The harvester determines the characteristic(s) of the media object, such as a dimension, an aspect ratio, a proximity to other media objects, etc. The harvester determines a second media object with substantially the same characteristic(s). The determined media objects, or subportions, are rendered in a client user interface. Relationships are mapped between a selected media object and projects that use the object. Manipulating a rendered portion causes a related operation on the whole media object.

Abstract: There is described a method, system and computer program product for processing a link embedded in a link document in a client computer, said link comprises a URL reference for a URL document in the client computer or another computer, there being stored a record containing a link reference and an intended fingerprint, said intended fingerprint representing the content of the URL document associated with the URL of the link at the time of or after the link was created, said method comprising the steps of: fetching the intended fingerprint for the link; fetching the URL document; creating a current fingerprint of the fetched URL document; comparing the intended fingerprint and the current fingerprint; and identifying that the intended fingerprint and the current fingerprint are different in a material way.

Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for keyword extraction are disclosed. The system in an example embodiment includes a keyword extraction component to extract relevant keywords from content of a web page, to identify items relevant to the extracted keywords, and to rank the relevant items.
