Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a method for querying performance counter data on a massively parallel computing system, while minimizing the costs associated with interrupting computer processors and limited memory resources. DMA descriptors may be inserted into an injection FIFO of a remote compute node in the massively parallel computing system. Upon executing the DMA operations described by the DMA descriptors, performance counter data may be transferred from the remote compute node to a destination node.

Abstract: There is provided a wireless communication device including a control-message creation/transmission-instruction unit which sends notification information via a wireless communication network and also sends response information in the case of receiving notification information sent from another device, a reception/interpretation processing unit which receives, from another device which has received the notification information of the wireless communication device, response information of such other device and also receives the notification information sent from such other device, and an operation mode determination unit which determines, based on operation mode determination information included in the notification information of such other device or the response information of such other device, that the wireless communication device is caused to operate as one of a master device and a slave device.

Abstract: A method for maintaining a local peer group (LPG) for supporting communications among vehicles. The LPG is formed from a plurality of vehicles. Each vehicle is equipped with a wireless communications device. One of the vehicles is selected as a group header node (GH). The method comprises receiving periodically a heartbeat packet from the GH, the heartbeat packet including a maximum hop count, and a heartbeat cycle, forwarding the heartbeat packet until the maximum hop count is reached after waiting for a first random relay delay, which is less than a maximum allowable adjustable value, replying to the heartbeat packet with a membership report packet, forwarding a membership report packet towards the GH, and adding a vehicle that submitted the membership report packet to a LPG membership as a member node of the LPG if the membership report packet is new or updating information for a member node.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for data loss prevention may include 1) identifying a hypertext-transfer-protocol POST request from a client system to a hypertext-transfer-protocol server, 2) identifying metadata relating to the hypertext-transfer-protocol POST request differentiating at least one user-editable field within the hypertext-transfer-protocol POST request from at least one non-user-edited field within the hypertext-transfer-protocol POST request, 3) subjecting the user-editable field, based on the metadata, to a data-loss-prevention analysis and omitting the non-user-edited field from the data-loss-prevention analysis, and 4) performing a data-loss-prevention action based on the data-loss-prevention analysis. Abstract: Techniques for compiled indexing and paginated reporting are described. Event messages, having sequential identifiers, are received and stored in a working table. The working table is renamed as a rollover table upon receiving a threshold number of the event messages and a new working table is created. A reference to the rollover table is stored in a management table. Summary data which summarizes each rollover table according to predetermined criteria is stored in a summary table with the reference to the corresponding rollover table. When a query to the event messages is received, a response to the query is generated based on the contents of the summary table and management table. The response may also include a predetermined quantity of event messages based on a dimension of a window of a graphical user interface of a client computer which issued the query.

Abstract: Embodiments of a manager/remote content architecture are described herein. The architecture, for instance, may provide management of content received from a content provider, such as to determine which client devices are authorized to output the content. Techniques are also described which allow one of the remote client devices to act as a “limited manager” to allocate content usage by the architecture when the manager client device is not available.

Abstract: A method to reduce link-up time between nodes in a communication system is provided. The method includes determining a node in the communication system is in a HANDSHAKE state; randomly configuring the node in one of a master mode and a slave mode based on a determination that the node is in the HANDSHAKE state; determining if the node is in a LINK-UP state with a selected node in the communication system based on the random configuring of the node; and randomly re-configuring the node in one of the master mode and the slave mode based on a negative determination that the node is in the LINK-UP state with the selected node.

Abstract: Mailbox pooling pre-emptive criteria is set forth for use in an adaptive polling system for synchronizing data between a mail server and a mobile communication device. The polling engine stores an indication of the number of messages in the mailbox, the total mailbox size (i.e. the used storage size in bytes), and the last message ID from the last poll. In the next poll, the polling engine retrieves this information from the mailbox and checks against the values stored from the last poll. If the information is the same, then there is no need to compare the message ID list. Whenever either the number of messages in the mailbox or the mailbox size or last message ID has changed, then the full comparison of the message ID list is performed.

Abstract: Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a method for image sharing and display. The method includes selecting an image, establishing a context with a peer workstation, and displaying an image on the peer workstation based on the established context. The context may include an image sharing coordinate system, the displayed data types, the coordinates of displayed data types, and lookup tables for image data types. Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a system for image sharing and display. The system includes a master workstation and a peer workstation. The peer workstation includes a display device adapted to display an image based at least in part on information received from the master workstation. The information received from the master workstation may include an image sharing coordinate system, the displayed data types, the coordinates of displayed data types, and lookup tables for image data types.

In some examples, the system utilizes a virtualization layer to generate a virtual computing environment, or virtual machine, at a UPnP server, which is configured to receive requests for media, identify locations for the media within the secondary storage devices, access the media, and present the media to a client computing device associated with the media requests.

The processing resources include a microprocessor and memory accessible to the microprocessor. The management resource is operable to power-up, reset, and power-off the processing resources. The management resource includes a first management module and a redundant second management module. The management resource responds to a single firmware update request by updating firmware on the first management module while maintaining the second management module in a slave mode and, upon successfully updating the firmware on the first management module, updating firmware on the second management module while maintaining the first management module in a passive mode.

Abstract: Initiating a collective operation in a parallel computer that includes compute nodes coupled for data communications and organized in an operational group for collective operations with one compute node assigned as a root node, including: identifying, by a non-root compute node, a collective operation to execute in the operational group of compute nodes; initiating, by the non-root compute node, execution of the collective operation amongst the compute nodes of the operational group including: sending, by the non-root compute node to one or more of the other compute nodes in the operational group, an active message, the active message including information configured to initiate execution of the collective operation amongst the compute nodes of the operational group; and executing, by the compute nodes of the operational group, the collective operation.

Abstract: In a system that performs communication between master and slave, the device better suited as the master device is not always the master device, since the device that initially constructs the network becomes the master device. A device that enters the network later transmits a restart request on detecting the master device, and if a restart permission is received, the device transfers to a restart state and transmits a master inquiry before the device that was the master device up until that point. Thus, a device that newly enters a network is able to operate as the master device even if a master device already exists in the network.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for distribution of applications amongst a number of servers, ensuring that changes to application data on a master for that application are asynchronously replicated to a number of slaves for that application. Servers may be located in geographically diverse locations; the invention permits data replication over high-latency and lossy network connections and failure-tolerance under hardware and network failure conditions. Access to applications is mediated by a distributed protocol handler which allows any request for any application to be addressed to any server, and which, when working in tandem with the replication system, pauses connections momentarily to allow seamless, consistent live-migration of applications and their state between servers.

Abstract: Systems and methods for performing automated load and usability testing via an application delivery appliance can include methods where a browser having a unique identifier is detected and a script is injected into the HTML response generated by the page displayed within the browser. The injected script renders the page and the links on the page, and then selects a link within the rendered page. Upon selecting a link, the script then waits for a period of time before calling a function associated with the selected link. In situations where the browser is a control browser, the calling of a function associated with the link is followed by the spawning of one or more slave browsers, where each slave browser further executes the above-listed steps beginning with the execution of the injected script and ending with the calling of the function associated with the selected link.

Each company's data and linkage to users remaining private and secure from the other participating companies as well as from the general public over the Internet. Login by user with network interface units, addressing, authentication, and other configuration operations achieved using a web page-based GUI are applied in establishing tunnels from LAN clients to desired VPN destinations. Required authentication exchanges and required encryption key exchanges facilitate the secure communications. Financial arrangements regarding the provisioning and use of network interface units are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for maintaining an item-to-node mapping among nodes in a distributed cluster is provided. Each node maintains locally-stored system-state information indicating that node's understanding of which master nodes are alive and dead. Instead of employing a global item-to-node mapping, each node acts upon a locally determined mapping based on its locally-stored system-state information. For any two nodes with the same locally-stored system-state information, the locally determined mapping is the same. A node updates its locally-stored system-state information upon detecting a node failure or receiving a message from another node indicating different locally-stored system-state information. The new locally-stored system-state information is transmitted on a need-to-know basis, and consequently nodes with different item-to-node mappings may operate concurrently.

Abstract: The invention is directed to methods and systems for managing communications between a user of a mobile device and a content provider. Registration information is received from a mobile device indicating that a communications manager is authorized to communicate with the content provider and act on behalf of the mobile device with respect to blocking and unblocking certain messages received from the content provider. The content provider registers with the communications manager so that the communications manager knows specific codes and methods for communicating with the content provider. Modified user preferences are received from the mobile device, and these are communicated to the content provider by the communications manager.

A method for joining a wireless network may include entering a network set up mode, and scanning for a second device operating with a parent status. If the second device is operating with the parent status, the network name of the second device may be adopted as the network name.

Abstract: Various embodiments of a system and method for handling network partitions in a cluster of nodes are disclosed. The system and method may use a set of arbitration servers that are ordered in a particular order. Client nodes in different partitions may send requests to the arbitration servers to attempt to win control of them. The client node that wins a majority of the arbitration servers may remain in the cluster, and the client nodes in the other partitions may exit the cluster. The first arbitration server may award control to whichever client node whose request for control is received first. The remaining arbitration servers may be configured to give preference to the winner of one or more of the previous arbitration servers to attempt to ensure that one of the client nodes wins a majority.

A wireless repeater and/or an access point associated with the wireless communication network can be configured to determine the optimal position of the wireless repeater based on throughput achieved on communication links between the access point, the repeater, and/or the client stations. The throughput achieved on communication links between the access point, the repeater, and/or the client stations can be determined by exchanging training packets, receiving acknowledgement messages in response to the training packets, and subsequently analyzing the received acknowledgement messages. Furthermore, the throughput achieved on communication links between the access point, the repeater, and/or the client stations can also be analyzed to determine whether each of the client stations should associate with the access point or the wireless repeater.

Abstract: A method for metering on-demand service (ODS) resource consumption by a user comprising a web services interface, a processing engine, and configuration data. A data gathering agent in the ODS stores the usage data in records, combines the records into packets, and transmits the packets to the web services interface. The web services interface passes the packets onto the processing engine, which stores the records in the packet into a database. The generalized format of the record is critical because it allows the metrics to be stored in the record table with the usage data. When a record contains an instruction to close a UOW, the processing engine applies the configuration data comprising composition rules and record selection rules to the database. The record selection rules select the desired records from the database. The composition rules aggregate, normalize, and compose the selected records to produce a metric.

Abstract: A method includes receiving a data query instruction for execution, wherein execution of the data query instruction is to cause a data transfer into or from a data warehouse. The data warehouse includes data servers that are communicatively coupled for data transfer through a link aggregation group having at least two data links. Responsive to receiving the data query instruction and prior to or at least partially overlapping with execution of the data query instruction to cause the data transfer, the method includes identifying which of the number of data servers are to receive or transmit data as part of the data transfer; identifying, for each of the identified data servers, a minimum number of the at least two data links that are needed for the data transfer; and activating, if inactive, the minimum number of the at least two data links for each of the identified data servers.

Abstract: Content delivery systems and related methods can provide dynamic content across a network, based on detected network performance. An exemplary content delivery system can comprise a content request unit, a detection unit, and a transmission unit. The content request unit can receive and process content requests from clients, and can instruct the transmission unit to provide the requested content. The detection unit 160 can detect performance of the network between the content delivery system and the client and, based on the detected performance, can update the values of one or more performance indicators. Upon receiving instruction from the content request unit, the transmission unit can select a data set from among a plurality of data sets embodying the requested content. The particular selection made can be based on the current values of the performance indicator. The transmission unit can then deliver the selected data set to the client.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that supports printing from a computing device. During operation, the system uses a discovery protocol to identify printers that can be accessed by the computing device. Next, the system receives a selection of a printer that can be accessed by the computing device. The system then generates printer data for the print job. This can be accomplished in a number of ways. The system can use a driverless printing technique, which involves obtaining printer capability information from the selected printer and generating printer data for the selected printer based on the printer capability information. Alternatively, the system can use a printer-specific driver for the selected printer to generate the printer data. The system can also send the print job to a cloud, which includes one or more servers that provide a printing service, so that the cloud can generate the printer data. Finally, the system sends the generated printer data to the printer.
