  • Patent number: 4478633
Abstract: The method comprises processing slime and off-gases resulting from the production of phosphorus with an aqueous solution of copper sulphate having a concentration of from 15 to 50% at a temperature within the range of from 20.degree. to 80.degree. C. As a result, two products are obtained, i.e. a liquid product and a solid one.The solid product containing mainly copper phosphide as well as fluorides and chlorides of alkali metals and silicon, and silicates of calcium and aluminium, is used as a modifying and refining agent for hypereutectic silumines and for the manufacture of a copper-phosphorus alloy. The liquid product containing phosphoric acid, sulphuric acid and copper sulphate is used as starting product for the preparation of a copper-containing fertilizer. The method according to the present invention makes it possible to modify the production of phosphorus so as to eliminate the formation of secondary wastes and improve the evnironmental control.

  • Patent number: 4334908
Abstract: A composition of matter for use as a vitreous fertilizer comprising a soluble vitreous constituent comprising the following ingredients: 35 to 55 moles %, P.sub.2 O.sub.5 ; less than 10 moles %, K.sub.2 O; and the balance to 100 moles %, CaO and/or MgO. The balance of the composition, if any, is constituted by optional additions of nutrient proportions of one or more micro-nutrients in plant assimilable form, and/or optional additions of one or more plant-inert filler materials. Such compositions have favorable nutrient release rates. The invention also encompasses compositions of matter adapted for use as a plant fertilizer which comprises soluble vitreous plant nutrient release material in expanded or cellular form, and to methods of plant cultivation using such compositions.

  • Patent number: 4321078
Abstract: A slow release fertilizer composition providing to a plant a controlled amount of plant primary nutrients and micronutrients over a prolonged period of time is described. The solubility and concentration of each of the plant nutrients is determined by the addition to the fertilizer composition of specified fertilizer constituents or components which on going into solution coact to control at an optimum concentration each of the plant nutrients. The slow release fertilizer composition comprises the plant primary nutrients nitrogen, phosphorous, calcium, sulfur, magnesium, and potassium and the plant micronutrients iron, manganese, zinc, copper and boron. A single application of the fertilizer composition of the present invention provides sufficient plant nutrients for a full growing season or one or more growing seasons.

  • Patent number: 4279635
Abstract: A process for treating thickened phosphatic clay suspensions produced in the processing of phosphate ore by water beneficiation, and which have a solids content of from about 5% to about 30%. A deflocculating agent is mixed with the suspension to cause deflocculation of the suspension to an extent sufficient to reduce the viscosity of the sludge to a value enabling the deflocculated suspension to be readily pumped from one location to another. The deflocculated suspension is subsequently mixed with an additive compound comprising an alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide in an amount sufficient to cause the formation of large silicate molecules with resultant gelling and setting of the sludge into an inert solid material.

  • Patent number: 4248617
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for producing a granular phosphate fertilizer by reacting and granulating simultaneously a mixture of a basic material which contains acid-soluble CaO and acid-soluble MgO, and also acid-soluble SiO.sub.2, with phosphoric acid and/or an acidic phosphate in such a mixing ratio thatA/MO=0.05-0.45[in which MO represents moles of the acid-soluble alkaline earth metals in the basic material (calculated as their oxides) and A represents moles of the phosphoric acid or the free phosphoric acid derived from the acidic phosphate (calculated as P.sub.2 O.sub.5)]. This process makes use of industrial wastes, as the starting basic material, such as slag discharged from metal refining and fly ash. The granular fertilizer obtained by the process is high in granule hardness, easy to handle, and high in phosphate fertilization effect and gives an effect on improving acidic soil.
