  • Patent number: 7966427
Abstract: An electrical device may be configured by coupling the device to a human machine interface (HMI) that is equipped with software for interacting with a configuration station. The software may include components that can enumerate properties of objects on the device to be configured. The device to be configured provides a file to the server-enabled HMI, such as a schema file. The server-enabled HMI then enumerates properties of the objects or otherwise provides an indication of the properties to the configuration station. The properties may be altered by a user at the configuration station. The reconfigured properties are then transmitted from the server-enabled HMI back to the device to be configured.

  • Patent number: 7907604
Abstract: Routing between multiple hosts and adapters in a PCI environment is provided by a method and system. A Destination Identification (DID) field is inserted in a field of the PCI bus address (PBA) of transaction packets dispatched through PCI switches. A particular DID is associated with a particular host or system image, and thus identifies the physical or virtual end point of the packets. The method and system may track connections such that when particular host of a root node becomes connected to a specified switch, a PCI Configuration Master (PCM), residing in one of the root nodes, is operated to enter a destination identifier or DID into a table. The DID is then inserted in the PBA of packets directed through the specified switch from the particular host to one of the adapters.

Abstract: A secure keyboard combines a human interface device (HID), application programs stored in nonvolatile memory, and encryption technologies into a single package. Like any other keyboard, the secure keyboard communicates with a computer via a communications port. A computer can load and execute an application stored in the secure keyboard. The application, however, expects encrypted inputs. The HID inputs are encrypted before being passed to the computer and thence the application. Therefore, a secure link exists from the HID to the application. Choosing strong encryption and unique encryption/decryption keys allows applications to be keyed to a specific secure keyboard. No other keyboard can supply keyboard input to the application. The secure keyboard can be implemented as a security device that does not include a keyboard. The security device can accept HID inputs from HID devices, encrypts them, and passes them to the computer and thence the application.

If the select input receives a first control pattern, the Z-bar switch is configured to: couple the first IC port to the first card slot port; and to couple the second IC port to the second card slot port. If the select input receives a second control pattern, the Z-bar switch is configured to: couple the first IC port to the second card slot port; leave the second IC port floating; and to leave the first card slot port floating.

Abstract: Provided are a method, system and program for effecting a processor operating mode change to execute device code. A processor receives a call while the processor is operating in a first mode, wherein the call is made to effect execution of device code to control a device. The processor determines whether the call is intended to change a processor operating mode from the first mode to a second mode. The state of the processor is selectively changed to a second mode in which the processor executes second mode instructions loaded in a protected section of memory inaccessible to an operating system in response to determining that the call is intended to change the processor operating mode. The second mode instructions execute the device code to control the device.

The control circuit is arranged to electrically sense the physical port, and operate the physical port as one of an Ethernet port and an RS-232 port based on electrically sensing the physical port. In some arrangements, the physical port operates as an Ethernet port at one time and an RS-232 port at another time. In some arrangements, the electronic device senses for Ethernet signals and RS-232 signals concurrently. In other arrangements, the electronic device senses for Ethernet signals and RS-232 signals at different times in an alternating manner.

Abstract: A computer (12) having multiple data paths (38a-d) connecting to other devices, which may be similar computers. A register (40d) is provided that has bits (110) programmatically settable to address each of the data paths such that the computer can communicate via multiple of the data paths based on which bits are concurrently set in the register. The bits respectively represent instances of the other devices as source devices that the computer can read data from and instances of the other devices as destination devices that the computer can write data to. A single address in the register can represent both a source device and a destination device for data communicated by the computer. Optionally, multiple of the computers can be connected in series (termed a pipeline) or to form an array (10).

  • Patent number: 7533193
Abstract: An apparatus and method therefor wherein instead of applying a high bias voltage 100 per cent of the time to leads susceptible to dendrite formation, the bias voltage is switched from a low bias voltage to a high voltage bias mode when the leads (19) are to be read or scanned by a microprocessor (14), and the bias voltage is then switched back to a low bias voltage mode when the lines are not being read, e.g., at other times, thereby greatly reducing the high bias “on” time and dramatically reducing the probability of dendrite formation. The reduction of high bias voltage “on” time is accomplished by programming the microprocessor (14) to switch the applicable input ports (16) to be output ports when the leads (19) are not to be read. As output ports, the output impedance and output voltage of the microprocessor are low as opposed to a high input impedance when the terminals are input terminals.

Abstract: A system provides dual use of a general purpose input/output (I/O) line. In an embodiment, the system comprises a controlling circuit having a dual purpose I/O line that is selectively operable in a serial transmit mode or an I/O mode. A first circuit that receives a serial data stream when the controlling circuit operates in the serial transmit mode is coupled to the I/O line. A second circuit that generates and transmits a signal when the controlling circuit operates in the I/O mode is also coupled to the I/O line. Finally, a third circuit is disposed between the second circuit and the I/O line. In an embodiment, when the controlling circuit operates in the serial transmit mode, the third circuit maintains the second circuit in an idle state, and when the controlling circuit operates in the I/O mode, the third circuit permits the second circuit to transmit the signal to the controlling circuit.
