  • Patent number: 8838845
Abstract: In general, this disclosure relates to techniques for management of a multimedia connection between a wireless communication device (WCD) and one or more output devices. The connection may be a multimedia interface connection with content protection, e.g., High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). In some cases, the multimedia interface connection with content protection may be inactive because the output device is no longer connected or the multimedia application is stopped or paused. The techniques include detecting a use mode of the multimedia interface connection with content protection between the WCD and one or more output devices. When the use mode of the multimedia interface connection with content protection is inactive, the WCD may reduce at least one of content processing or content protection processing. In this way, the techniques may reduce battery power consumption from multimedia processing by the WCD.

The extender card has a test socket that receives a memory module and an intercepting decoder chip that receives the chip-select (CS) from the motherboard that selects the memory module for access. When CS is activated, the intercepting decoder chip illuminates a visual indicator on the extender card, allowing a user to locate a memory module being accessed. The exact translation or mapping from logical addresses of test programs to physical addresses of the memory modules is not needed, since the visual indicator shows which memory module is really being accessed, regardless of proprietary address mapping by north bridge chips. Operating system memory accesses are filtered out by a counter that counts accesses during a period set by a timer. When the number of accesses exceeds a threshold, the visual indicator is lit.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for fast cancellation of an I/O request in a data processing system are provided in the illustrative embodiments. A first component in a stack comprising a plurality of components determines whether a memory buffer associated with the I/O request is valid, the memory buffer being an addressable area in a memory in the data processing system. The first component, responsive to the memory buffer being valid, creates a first request data structure corresponding to the I/O request, wherein the first request data structure includes a reference to the memory buffer. The first component passes the first request data structure to a second component in the stack.

  • Patent number: 8661173
Abstract: A striping system and method for distributing a payload of data across a plurality of parallel USB cables from a source to a destination is described. The striping devices reside in the architecture of a source and destination connected by more than one standardized USB bus cable. The striping devices increase the bandwidth between the source and the destination by providing more lanes of data traffic and utilizing segmentation and reassembly to ensure that the data is split up and then reassembled correctly into the original stream at the destination. The striping devices allow for user determination of usability along with self diagnostics as to the source's and destination's ability to handle striping. Other embodiments are described.

Abstract: An information handling system includes a cable, a backplane, and a processor. The cable is connected to a storage controller of the information handling system. The backplane is configured to connect a drive to the information handling system. The processor is in communication with the cable and with the backplane. The processor is configured to detect a presence of the drive, to output a pulse in response to the detection of the presence of the drive, to determine a first storage technology of the drive in response to the output pulse, to determine a second storage technology of the storage controller, to determine whether there is a misconfiguration between the first storage technology and the second storage technology, and to generate a notification when the misconfiguration is determined.

Abstract: A television includes at least two ports (e.g. HDMI ports). The television polls the ports before presenting a user interface that displays some or all of the ports and before toggling between any two of the ports. The polling ascertains whether a device is connected to each of the ports and whether the device is powered. The television modifies the display and/or toggling based on the current state of each port. For example, in toggling, ports that are not connected and ports that are connected to inactive devices are skipped. In another example, when displaying a list of ports, only those ports that are connected to devices appear in the list.
