  • Patent number: 11953923
Abstract: A control arrangement for an operating system has a plurality of control devices, arranged in a sequential order. Each control device shares information, including operational condition and a real-time measurement of at least one control parameter, with at least one control device in an upstream direction and at least one control device in a downstream direction. The control arrangement also has first and second terminal control devices. The first terminal control device is positioned at a beginning of the sequential order and the second terminal control device positioned at an end of the sequential order. The first terminal control device shares information only with control devices in the downstream direction and the second terminal control device shares information only with control devices in the upstream direction. In some applications, each control device that is not a terminal control device shares information with more than one control device in each direction.

  • Patent number: 11875060
Abstract: Data replication techniques can include receiving, at a source system, a write directed to a source logical device configured for asynchronous remote replication to a destination system; performing processing that flushes a transaction log entry for the write; and performing replication processing that uses a replication queue including a replication queue entry corresponding to the write that stores the first content to a logical address. The processing can create a replication log entry in a replication log for the write responsive to determining that the write is directed to the source logical device configured for asynchronous remote replication and that the first content has not been replicated. Responsive to the first content not being in cache, the first content can be retrieved using the reference to a storage location storing the first content. The reference can be obtained from the replication log entry or the replication queue entry.

  • Patent number: 11650889
Abstract: A method for reliable data synchronization within a network is disclosed. The producer system stories data in a persistent data store and produces one or more data updates. The producer system simultaneously transmits the data updates to a consumer system and initiating storage of the data updates at the producer system. When storage of the data updates at the producer system is complete, the producer system transmits a first acknowledgment to the consumer system. The producer system determines whether a second acknowledgment has been received from the consumer system, wherein the second acknowledgment indicates that the consumer system has successfully stored the data updates at the consumer system. In accordance with a determination that the second acknowledgment has been received from the consumer system, the producer system changes the temporary status of the data updates stored at the producer system to a permanent status.

Abstract: High availability and data migration in a distributed process control computing environment. Allocation algorithms distribute data and applications among available compute nodes, such as controllers in a process control system. In the process control system, an input/output device, such as a fieldbus module, can be used by any controller. Databases store critical execution information for immediate takeover by a backup compute element. The compute nodes are configured to execute algorithms for mitigating dead time in the distributed computing environment.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for arbitrating sensor and actuator signals in various devices. One system includes input/output (I/O) circuitry, redundant computation circuits coupled to the I/O circuitry, and an arbitration circuit coupled between the I/O circuitry and the redundant computation circuits. The I/O circuitry is configured to be coupled to multiple non-redundant systems, and the redundant computation circuits are configured to be coupled to one of multiple system buses. One such device is an aircraft including multiple non-redundant systems and a plurality of system buses that are configured to transmit redundant messages to the non-redundant systems.

  • Patent number: 7987328
Abstract: In a virtual disk library device access of data stored in a tape can be conducted at a high speed with a high-speed archiving process from a disk to the tape in units of LUs maintained. The efficiency of update of the data stored in the tape can be improved. In this system, when the data stored in the tape is to be accessed with a high-speed archiving process in units of LUs from the disk to the tape maintained, a disk staging process is performed in the unit of a page that is smaller than the unit of an LU, and accordingly, high-speed access can be implemented. In addition, when an update process for the data (LU) stored in the tape is performed, the host can be responded by only staging an update target page of the LU, and a prior disk staging process is performed for the remaining pages of the LU in the background. Accordingly, when the data is re-stored in the tape, immediately storing the data in the tape can be performed without performing a staging process.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and a method for utilizing a parity protection module to back up data on striped aggregates. Specifically, the system computes party data for data stored at a particular location of each of a plurality of constituent aggregates, and stores the parity on one of the constituent aggregates that is a parity owner for that particular location of data. In the event one of the constituent aggregates fails, new data may still be accessed by the system (the striped aggregates), both to write new data, and to read data stored on the failed aggregate. In particular, the parity protection module allows clients to read data from a failed aggregate by running a reverse parity computation, which may also be used to restore the data to the failed aggregate.

Abstract: A redundant communication system and method for providing data communication between a first computing node and a second computing node. A transmitter is provided as part of the first computing node. A receiver is provided as part of the second computing node. A first signal line carries a first data signal. The first signal line electrically couples the transmitter with the receiver. A second signal line carries a second data signal redundant to the first signal. The second signal line electrically couples the transmitter with the receiver. The receiver evaluates the first data signal to determine the presence of an error and the second node uses the second data signal if an error is detected in the first data signal.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for transactional fault tolerance in a client-server system is described. In one example, output data generated by execution of a service on a primary server during a current epoch between a first checkpoint and a second checkpoint is buffered. A copy of an execution context of the primary server is established on a secondary server in response to the second checkpoint. The output data as buffered is released from the primary server in response to establishment of the copy of the execution context on the secondary server.

  • Publication number: 20080162988
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for reporting and recovering from an internal processor error in a multiprocessor system supporting system management mode. In accordance with the method of the present invention one or more replacement agents are allocated such as during system startup within the multiprocessor system. Machine specific error-reporting registers are monitored for one or more active processor agents during system operation. In response to detecting a faulty agent via the monitoring, a system management interrupt (SMI) request is issued to one or both the faulty agent and a selected replacement agent. In response to receiving the SMI request, the operating state of the faulty agent is copied to the selected replacement agent in system management mode. Operating system processing is then resumed using the replacement agent.
