Abstract: A system and method for preventing a hang up after initiation of a watch dog time out in a computer system. A start-up routine is run via a basic input output system (BIOS). The routine applies settings for hardware components. It is determined if a watch dog timer triggered a restart from timing out when the start-up routine ran previously. The system checks a database storing settings for each of the plurality of hardware components for a proper setting for the hardware components if the watch dog timer triggered the restart. The system applies the settings from the database for the hardware components to avoid another hang up.

Abstract: Improved techniques for disaster recover within storage area networks are disclosed. Embodiments include replicating a LIF of a primary cluster on a secondary cluster. LIF configuration information is extracted from the primary cluster. A peer node from a secondary cluster is located. One or more ports are located on the located peer node that match a connectivity of the LIF from the primary cluster. One or more ports are identified based upon one or more filtering criteria to generate a candidate port list. A port from the candidate port list is selected based at least upon a load of the port. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: One embodiment described herein provides a distributed computing system. The distributed computing system can include a compute cluster comprising one or more compute nodes and a storage cluster comprising a plurality of storage nodes. A respective compute node can be configured to: receive a request for a computation task; obtain path information associated with data required by the computation task; identify at least one storage node based on the obtained path information; send at least one computation instruction associated with the computation task to the identified storage node; and receive computation results from the identified storage node subsequently to the identified storage node performing the computation task.

Abstract: Methods and systems for recovering a host image of a client machine to a recovery machine comprise comparing a profile of a client machine of a first type to be recovered to a profile of a recovery machine of a second type different from the first type, to which the client machine is to be recovered, by a first processing device. The first and second profiles each comprise at least one property of the first type of client machine and the second type of recovery machine, respectively. At least one property of a host image of the client machine is conformed to at least one corresponding property of the recovery machine. The conformed host image is provided to the recovery machine, via a network. The recovery machine is configured with at least one conformed property of the host image by a second processing device of the recovery machine.

Abstract: A system and method can provide fault tolerance in a middleware machine environment. A subnet manager can determine whether there is a path record change when a fault occurs in the middleware machine environment. Furthermore, the subnet manager can signal a dynamic reconfiguration event to at least one host in the middleware machine environment. The at least one host can send a message to the subnet manager to query for a latest path record. Then, the subnet manager can provide a latest path record to the at least one host.

Abstract: A method and a storage system for managing logical objects, wherein the storage system includes a plurality of control servers and the method includes: (i) defining a plurality of object pools and associating each logical object, hosted in the storage system, with one of the plurality of object pools; (ii) configuring each control server to have a primary responsibility over at least two of the object pools, such that each object pool is controlled by one primary control server, configured to handle requests directed to logical objects associated with the object pool; and (iii) in response to a failure of one of the plurality of control servers, configuring each operational server of the plurality of control servers to take over primary responsibility for at least one object pool, originally defined under the primary responsibility of the failed control server.

Abstract: A method (and structure) of operating an operating system (OS) on a computer. When a failure of the OS is detected, the computer automatically performs a diagnosis of the OS failure. The computer also attempts to automatically repair/recover the failed OS, based on the diagnosis, without requiring a reboot.

Abstract: A monitoring server that monitors an image forming apparatus and detects an error if any has occurred thereon, identifies a type of firmware that has caused the error, and issues an instruction for replacing a version of the identified type of firmware. The image forming apparatus issues, to a transmission server, a request for transmitting a replacement version of the identified type of firmware. The transmission server refers to a firmware version list table to determine another type of firmware whose version is to be replaced in association with the replacement version of the identified type of firmware. The transmission server transmits the replacement version of the identified type of firmware and the determined another type of firmware to the image forming apparatus. The image forming apparatus receives each firmware transmitted from the transmission server and applies the received firmware to the image forming apparatus.

Abstract: A method for managing a system's computer resources, includes: detecting an error condition in a computer resource; labeling the computer resource as not usable based on the error condition detected; reconfiguring the remaining computer resources to compensate for the detected error condition based on a failure mode policy; and wherein the failure mode policy manages the computer resources by one of: maximizing the amount of the remaining computer resources (mode 1), and maximizing the speed of the remaining computer resources (mode 2).
