  • Patent number: 11366768
Abstract: In an active-active system, if write lock permission is granted to a second storage array, a first storage array sends to-be-written data and a lock revocation request together to a lock server; the lock server sends a lock revocation request carrying the to-be-written data to the second storage array; after storing the to-be-written data, the second storage array sends a lock revocation success message to the lock server; the lock server gives the write lock permission to the first storage array; and the first storage array obtains the write lock permission and stores the to-be-written data.

  • Publication number: 20110161725
Abstract: In virtualized environments, storage may be managed dynamically due to the changing data storage requirements. In such environments, logical storage unit identifiers (LUN IDs) may be modified as a result of deleting an existing mapping between physical storage and a virtualization server and recreating the mapping. This can result in I/O request failure. Techniques for resolving errors resulting from LUN ID modifications can be time-intensive and labor-intensive and can disrupt a communication path between a host device and the physical storage. Functionality can be implemented to dynamically identify the LUN ID modifications, determine valid LUN IDs, and retransmit failed I/O requests. This can help minimize I/O request failures due to LUN ID modifications without disrupting the communication path between the host device and the physical storage.

Abstract: A method for replacing a first root file system comprising, retrieving a second root file system, mounting the second root file system on a first system in a sysplex as the sysplex root file system, replacing sysplex root mount information associated with the first root file system with sysplex root mount information associated with the mounted second root file system, updating a root on the first system to point to the mounted second root file system, invalidating the first root file system on the first system, updating a first file system to point to the mounted second root file system in the first system, updating an active process with the sysplex root mount information associated with the mounted second root file system, and unmounting the first root file system from the first system.

  • Publication number: 20100058106
Abstract: Methods and apparatus involve file systems for virtual machines and image deltas. Representatively, a plurality of virtual machines are configured on a hardware platform and a file system includes both a read-only portion and a writable portion that together provides the entire file system for each virtual machine. Also, a union of the two portions provides an incremental snapshot of its corresponding virtual machine and can be used to restore the virtual machine upon a failure event. In content, the read-only portion contains substantially immutable information such as core basic system image, while the writable portion contains configuration information, state data and production information. An available storage device for the virtual machines is partitioned for each virtual machine and its corresponding writable portion is found therein. Other features contemplate particular configurations and computer program products, to name a few.

  • Publication number: 20090113249
Abstract: A stress testing method of a file system includes traversing local or network storage devices with a drive letter; detecting a network mapping path of the network storage devices; calculating an absolute path of all the storage devices through a mounted point and a system volume; collecting the above information to update the path information of the file system; and then calling a corresponding test algorithm and stressing strategy according to different types of storage devices, so as to perform the stress test. The stress testing method can make the file system display storage devices without a drive letter, and call appropriate testing methods and stressing strategies for different types of storage devices, so the depth and scope of the stress testing for file system are expanded, the accuracy of the test is enhanced, and the problem of occupying too many system resources is avoided.
