Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for providing additional information for text in an image. In some implementations, a computing device receives an image including text. Optical character recognition (OCR) is performed on the image to produce recognized text. One or more topics corresponding to the recognized text is determined. A word or a phrase is selected from the recognized text for providing additional information. One or more potential meanings of the selected word or phrase are determined. One of the potential meanings is selected using the one or more topics. A source of additional information corresponding to the selected meaning is selected for providing the additional information to a user's device.

Abstract: A user interface for a computer that can display one or more virtual or digital files that allow a user to sort through and select a particular virtual or digital file to interact with, or a digital object associated with that virtual or digital file. The user interface described herein allows a user to view and browse rapidly through a sequence of images representing one or more virtual or digital files by displaying in the user interface a combination of two images simultaneously, side-by-side, while continuously maintaining the specified sequence.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing calculations in a character input mode of an electronic device. Character input is received in the character input mode, and input characters are displayed in a character input window. If determined that an arithmetic expression is present in the displayed input characters, the arithmetic expression is evaluated, and an evaluation result is displayed. A calculation enabling condition may be satisfied prior to, or after, the arithmetic expression identification. The method may be applied to character input modes of a text messaging or email application, or of a word processing application.

Abstract: Character morphing between slides of a presentation is disclosed. In certain implementations, Characters with varying styles within separate slides are matched and can be animated during slide transitions using distance field morphing. In certain embodiments, this involves matching characters on both an outgoing and incoming slide and providing a morphing process in order to smoothly transition from the outgoing slide to the incoming slide. Additionally, different techniques may be provided along with the distance field morph to further improve the slide transition process.

Abstract: Object matching between slides of a presentation is disclosed. In certain implementations, different objects within separate slides are matched and can be separately and independently handled during slide transitions as compared to unmatched objects. In certain embodiments, this involves matching objects on both an outgoing and incoming slide and providing specific animation or handling for those matched objects. Further, different degrees or levels of object matches may be provided and this information may be leveraged in the slide transition process.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments provide techniques for enhancing presentation system animations by applying motion blur to animated objects within a presentation system. Clipping the blur effect to particular regions may increase efficiencies over calculations of motion blur across an entire screen. Further, in certain embodiments, the motion blur may be calculated and presented on a per-object basis. Accordingly, relational objects (e.g., objects seemingly inside other objects and/or overlapping or crossing objects) may each have their own blur effect without impacting the other objects' blur effects.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for providing access to a channel via an embedded web event channel player. In exemplary embodiments, an embeddable code associated with the channel is provided to a channel owner. Once embedded, the code will provide an instance of the channel player on a user's device that can access the channel. A list of events is aggregated and provided for the channel associated with the channel player. Upon a request by a user, an event from the list of events may be streamed to the channel player.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed to selecting and applying data-specific presentations, to adaptively selecting visual presentations based on historical data and to providing rendering hints for data presentations. In one scenario, a computer system receives an indication that a visual presentation is to be applied to a specified portion of data. The computer system analyzes the specified data to determine which of a plurality of data presentations is most relevant for the specified data. The relevance is based on relevancy factors including one or more of the following: end-user profile, structure of the specified data and patterns within the specified data. The computer system then applies the determined appropriate visual presentation to the specified data.

Abstract: A video system comprises a shared media accessor configured to access shared media. The shared media is configured to be displayed on a first display screen and a second display screen. A video accessor configured to access images from a first camera. A field of view of the first camera is oriented such that the first camera can capture the images comprising non-verbal communication of a user associated with the shared media. A video compositor configured to composite the images captured by the first camera and said shared media. The composited images are configured to be displayed on the second display screen.

Abstract: A method for installing an application includes inputting a command to download the application, selecting a page to add an identifier for executing the application, and displaying the identifier on the selected page.

Abstract: User interface frameworks may provide an environment for developers to design and arrange user interface elements within a design layout to create a user interface. Many times UI elements comprise non-integer size values (e.g., height, width, position, etc.) due to text, user specified data, and/or centering, for example. Rendering UI elements at non-integer size values may create display artifacts because of sub-pixel rendering. Accordingly, as provided herein, a set of rules may be applied during design layout to non-integer size values to create integer size values (e.g., non-integer size values may be rounded to the nearest integer). Using integer size values in arranging UI elements within a design layout, allows undesirable display artifacts to be mitigated during rendering.

Abstract: A presentation apparatus stores parts data that includes parts data that includes type, location, and size of component parts that are displayed within a selected screen area, together with a selection rule that depicts the type of the component part that is to change a drawing state when the presentation apparatus is running in a presentation mode. When executing a presentation process, the apparatus selects a component part from the parts data, according to the selection rule, processes the selected screen area by changing an image of the selected component part, and generates the image to be used in the presentation.

Selecting a function desired by a user from among functions provided in the apparatus is provided to improve operability as well as eliminating erroneous copy. In the image forming apparatus, an operation unit includes a display panel for displaying a function selecting portion. An operation unit side control portion, as the function selecting portion, has a first function selecting portion in which selectable function items are displayed corresponding to an operation mode and a second function selecting portion in which other function items which are selectable at the same time. The first function selecting portion and the second function selecting portion are displayed at the same time on the display panel, so that functions of the first function selecting portion and functions of the second function selecting portion are selectable at the same time.

Abstract: A picture sharing apparatus and method are provided. The picture sharing apparatus includes technology for providing pictures differentiated according to sharing levels. The picture sharing technology may receive a picture request from a user's terminal and determine that user's sharing level and provide a picture differentiated in a predetermined form according to the user's sharing level. The picture sharing technology fulfills the two conflicting tasks of privacy protection and picture sharing.

Abstract: In general, this disclosure describes techniques for visually emphasizing information displayed on a computing device. In one example, a method that includes receiving a first portion of a document for display by the computing device, the first portion of the document including multiple elements separated by one or more delimiters. The method further includes dividing the multiple elements into a first set of one or more elements, each of which is displayable in its entirety at a time of display of the first portion of the document, and a second set of at least one element, the at least one element not displayable in its entirety at the time of display of the first portion of the document. The method further includes generating for display the first portion of the document, including visually emphasizing the first set of elements with respect to the second set of elements.

Abstract: A region division portion extracts an “object”, an “anchor expression accompanying the object” and a “text including the anchor expression” from image data based on a paper document and an electronic document. A link processing portion generates link information that associates, in two ways, the “object”, the “anchor expression included in the text” or the “text including the anchor expression” with each other. Then, a format conversion portion converts the link information into electronic document data including two-way link information. When this electronic document data is displayed by an application and one of the “object” and the “anchor expression included in the text” is selected, the other can be displayed according to the link information.

Abstract: Systems and methods for multi-directional visual browsing on an electronic device are described. In example embodiments, a primary result and a peripheral result are determined. A display layout based on attributes associated with the primary result and the peripheral result is generated. The display layout is then formatted into instructions, which will cause a device to render the display layout. The instructions are transmitted to the client device.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for assigning user interface widgets to page slots associated with a page pipeline. In response to a request to generate a content page, content placement requests are then received from user interface widgets. The page slots are associated with a placement value indicating a value of the page slot relative to other page slots in the page template and can be weighted based upon their location in a page pipeline. The highest ranked user interface widgets according to an effectiveness metric or placement score are scheduled for placement in the content page.

Abstract: A list indicating positions of positioned elements on a page of a document is maintained by a page object associated with the page. First position information indicating a first position of a first positioned element having a position that conflicts with a location of a first element associated with the page is transmitted by the page object to a first element object associated with the first element, the first element object being subordinate to the page object within a hierarchy. The first element object generates first layout data. The list is updated by the page object based on a position of a second positioned element having a position that conflicts with the first element. A second element object associated with a second element associated with the page, and subordinate to the page object within the hierarchy, is invoked by the page object to generate second layout data.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described for binding attributes between visual components. A first visual component, including a first presentation space for presenting first data by an operating first application, is detected. Binding information, for the first application, is identified that specifies a mapping between a first visual attribute of the first visual component and a second visual attribute of a second visual component including a second presentation space for presenting second data by a second application. A change to the first visual attribute is detected. In response to the detection of the change, change information is automatically sent to change the second visual attribute according to the mapping.

Abstract: A digital magazine server creates a section of a digital magazine including content items based on a page template describing the relative positioning and sizing of content items. A page template may include display regions specifying the size of content items as a percentage of a display area. Additionally, a display region in a page template may specify use of a sub-template for presenting content items. The sub-template includes display regions specifying the relative positioning of content items presented in the display region specifying use of the sub-template. To generate the section of the digital magazine, various page templates are scored and a page template is selected based on the scoring. One or more diversity policies may be enforced when selecting the page template to improve user interaction with the digital magazine.

Abstract: An apparatus for laying out image data and text data on a page, which distributes multiple sets of image data and text data into multiple sets of an image box and a text box upon a page in an order based on attribute information of the image data, compares the text data to an upper limit of the text box into which the text data has been distributed and when the text data is greater than the upper limit of the text box, switches the set of the image data and the text data with another set of distributed image data and text data into another set of an image box and a text box, the text data is less than the upper limit of the other text box, and the upper limit of the text box is greater than the other text data.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the inventive subject matter are directed to detecting a modification of content presented on a display. The detecting of the modification of the content is in response to user input. Some embodiments are further directed to generating a screen capture of at least the modified content in response to detecting the modification of the content. Some embodiments are further directed to identifying an area of the screen capture in which the modification of content occurred. Some embodiments are further directed to adding a graphical annotation to the screen capture.

Abstract: A system and method for printing a multimedia document including a multimedia content in the form of video, animation or graphics. While printing a multimedia document including a video file, instead of printing the default poster view, a set of frames extracted from the video file is printed. In one embodiment of the invention, the frames are extracted from the video file using a frame extraction algorithm and temporary layout of the set of frames is created for printing. User can configure to print the set of frames in the same area of the video file in the multimedia document, or can configure to print them in a separate page.

Abstract: The interface provides a means of capturing a composite digital image on a mobile computer, wherein a captured image is a composite of digital camera image data and text. The interface presents a real-time preview wherein the geometry, quality, and resolution of the preview are allowed to differ from the geometry, quality, and resolution of a captured image. The interface responds to computer characteristics' changes, data changes over time, and interface interactions by updating the preview in real-time, wherein text updates are introduced in an animated manner. The interface permits customization of the text's presentation, including position, scale, font, and style, where style includes color and other common attributes of text that affect visual presentation. The interface contextually adds sections based on the type of textual information composited.

Abstract: A plurality of graphical elements may be represented as a document object model (DOM) having a plurality of nodes, each node representing a different graphical element, the DOM having an ordering of the nodes, each node having a z-value of front or back, indicating that the corresponding graphical element is to be displayed in a front layer for a z-value of front or a back layer for a z-value of back. The z-value of one or more of the plurality of nodes corresponding to one or more graphical elements to be moved to the front layer or back layer may be altered. The DOM can then be reordered so that the one or more graphical elements to be moved to the front layer or back layer are at the front or back of the DOM, while maintaining the ordering between nodes having z-values of front and the ordering between nodes having z-values of back.

Abstract: A system and method for constructing a document redundancy graph with respect to a document set. The redundancy graph can be constructed with a node for each paragraph associated with the document set such that each node in the redundancy graph represents a unique cluster of information. The nodes can be linked in an order with respect to the information provided in the document set and bundles of redundant information from the document set can be mapped to individual nodes. A data structure (e.g., a hash table) of a paragraph identifier associated with a probability value can be constructed for eliminating inconsistencies with respect to node redundancy. Additionally, a sequence of unique nodes can also be integrated into the graph construction process. The nodes can be connected to the paragraphs associated with the document set via a hyperlink and/or via a label with respect to each node.

Abstract: A method for changing physical page properties in a large format printing application on a client device, the client device having executable instructions for creating a print job for producing a printout of an image. The steps include selecting the image for the print job; selecting a logical page size for the printout of the image; dividing the logical page size into a plurality of physical pages based on a selected medium; selecting at least one physical page from the plurality of physical pages and changing at least one print property on the at least one physical page; and adjusting the at least one print property on adjacent physical pages to the selected at least one physical page to avoid a sudden change in image quality and/or image appearance of the image in the printout.

Abstract: A workflow application allows users to store, manage, and perform tasks related to workflows comprised of ordered sets of documents. The application provides an interface for creating and managing a workflow. Each document added to the workflow is assigned to a particular position in the workflow. Via the interface, the user saves data defining the workflow. In this manner, the workflow may be shared or preserved for subsequent re-use. The application allows a user to perform various tasks with respect to the workflow. Via an interface control presented by the application, the user instigates such tasks. In response, the application causes the task to be performed for each document in the workflow in an order corresponding to the arrangement of the documents within the workflow. For example, the application may render and print each document in the workflow. Or, the application may generate a combined workflow report.

Abstract: The present invention is a system, method and apparatus for converting a slide show presentation for use within a non-presentation application such as a Web conferencing or virtual classroom application. In accordance with the present invention, a slide show presentation in its native format can be processed to extract slide title information for each slide in the slide show presentation. Additionally, important text within slide further can be extracted. Each slide in the slide-show can be converted to a raster image and disposed within markup. The markup can be annotated with the important text and both the markup and the slide title can be provided to the non-presentation application for use in concert with the non-presentation application. In this way, the context of each slide can be preserved for use within the non-presentation application as can an image of each slide itself.

Abstract: An image data display system classifies image data into a cluster based on a predetermined condition regardless of whether or not the image data conforms to DCF standard and displays information specific to the image data when displayed as a slide show. A CPU creates a cluster, including a plurality of the image data, and a slide show table having first and second cluster name candidates based on a FAT data or an Exif data and a third cluster name candidate input by a user. The image display screen combines any two of the above first, second, and third cluster name candidates and displays a list of the combined candidates as cluster names indicating contents of the image data. The user can select the cluster name in high visibility and can easily display the desired image data as the slide show.

Abstract: The invention provides a display interface in a social networking system that enables the presentation of information related to a user in a timeline or map view. The system accesses information about a user of a social networking system, including both data about the user and social network activities related to the user. The system then selects one or more of these pieces of data and/or activities from a certain time period and gathers them into timeline units based on their relatedness and their relevance to users. These timeline units are ranked by relevance to the user, and are used to generate a timeline or map view for the user containing visual representations of the timeline units organized by location or time. The timeline or map view is then provided to other users of the social networking system that wish to view information about the user.

At the same time, the user collaboration system enables users to quickly and easily receive help in a particular subject matter area, without requiring the user to know who within the organization may be able to provide that assistance. The user collaboration system also maintains an organization's user profile information that tracks employee subject matter expertise and allows users to request assistance from an anonymous expert. The assistance may be provided via a collaboration session which may be optimized based on available network resources.

Abstract: A presentation tool that includes visual progression graphics which represents progress of a presentation. The presentation tool automatically creates and presents the progression graphics for viewing by the presenter and the audience. As the presentation progresses, animation can be applied to the progression graphics to track the progress through the presentation materials. An option is also provided to hide the progression graphics. The progression graphics can also be utilized to navigate across the presentation materials. Thus, the presenter can select portions of the progression graphics as a means to navigation or jump between sections of the materials.

Abstract: The invention is a method and apparatus for encouraging applicants or others completing electronic forms to complete the forms and to become associated with the institution to which the form is directed. While completing the form or afterward, the applicant follows a hyperlink that presents a personal communication from an identified individual associated with the institution. The communication typically relates to the underlying purpose of the form rather than providing instructions on completing the form. For example, the communication may include a personalized message encouraging the applicant to attend the university. By varying the communication depending on the information entered onto the form by the applicant, the communication can be tailored to the specific background and interests of the applicant.

Abstract: In one aspect of a computer-implemented method of diagnosing formatting errors in document renderings, first and second renderings of a document are generated that correspond respectively to first and second locales. A first difference in a display characteristic of a first textual element of the document in the second rendering as compared to the first rendering is identified based on a first predefined criterion. A report is generated specifying the first textual element as having the first difference. In another aspect of the method, a rendering of a document is generated that corresponds to a locale. It is determined that a first element of the document having a first element type has a format in the rendering distinct from a format associated with the first element type in the locale.
