Abstract: A method consistent with certain embodiments of identifying a functional command set for an access device that accesses television programming provided by a service provider at a control device involves transmitting a first command from a first command set of a group of possible command sets for the access device to the access device. The first command includes a command that is expected to cause the access device to generate a text containing video frame. A determination is made as to whether the extracted text corresponds to the first command set. The first command set is identified as the functional command set for the access device in response to determining that the extracted text corresponds to the first command set. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

Abstract: The disclosed system and method provides a user interface in which language-related content is decoupled from a document structure or content to permit the document to accept variable language text. The language-related content is stored separately from the document structure and content. The document without the language-related content acts like a template that can be populated with any type of language-related content. The language-related content can be provided in a separate file together with associated identifiers, and can be loaded into a cache or document object model (DOM) for processing. An XML file may be used for the language file, and the document may be constructed using HTML code. Document components can be assigned event handlers that cause pop-up boxes to be loaded and displayed with language-related content upon an event trigger.

Abstract: Systems and methods for enhanced document composition features which can be utilized by a user are described. One method imports user-selected pages into a digital document platform. The method protects content of individual pages while allowing pages to be moved relative to one another and allows new content to be added between the user-selected pages.

The method includes positioning the set of elements on the device display, where the set of elements includes a first set of spatial indicia, and the device display further includes a first set of device characteristics. The method also includes generating a first set of workspace configuration indicia based, in part, on the first set of spatial indicia and the first set of device characteristics; and, if desired, re-positioning the set of elements on the device display, where the set of elements includes a second set of spatial indicia, and wherein the device display further includes a second set of device characteristics.

Abstract: A system allows a user to integrally manage content regardless whether the content is owned or not owned by the user. In a reproduction terminal, one piece of sort-out information is generated from one play list. Sort-out information is obtained by classifying the metadata of content registered with a play list into three types of metadata, search metadata, display metadata and processing metadata. The sort-out information generated in the reproduction terminal is transmitted to a reproduction terminal via a sort-out information server. In the reproduction terminal, a same play list as a play list of the reproduction terminal is created on the basis of the provided sort-out information. In the created play list, each piece of content registered with the play list is managed by making a distinction between the content owned by the user and the content not owned by the user.

Abstract: A game apparatus displays a game screen of 9×9 grid, for example, of a Sudoku puzzle on one LCD and an empty cell (cell to be answered) is large-displayed on the other LCD. A touch panel is provided on the LCD to allow a player to handwrite a numeral to fill in the cell with a stick, etc. on the touch panel. When a handwritten region is larger at a certain degree or more with respect to the cell, it is considered that an answer numeral is input, and the answer numeral is large-displayed. If the handwritten region is not so large as to the cell, it is considered that a note numeral is input, and the note numeral is displayed in a smaller region in the cell. However, if the notes numeral is settled as an answer numeral, a game determination is performed according to the answer numeral.

Abstract: A peripheral device has a mounting portion and a storage unit. The mounting portion is configured to mount a removable storage. The storage unit is configured to store data. The reading out unit reads out specific information from the removable storage medium when the removable storage medium is mounted to the mounting portion. The deletion unit deletes at least part of the data in the storage unit based on the specific information read out by the reading out unit.

Abstract: An approach for positioning a floating object in a workspace of an electronic document is disclosed herein. To accomplish this, the workspace is divided into a plurality of available portions in which floating objects may be positioned. For example, these available portions represent geometrical areas within the workspace that do not include obstacles, such as absolutely positioned objects and other floating objects. The available portions are then evaluated against a plurality of undesirable positioning characteristics in order to determine an optimal position for the floating object within the workspace. The optimal position is then determined to be either a location in the workspace that does not result in any of the undesirable characteristics or, alternatively, a location having the most tolerable of the potentially resultant undesired characteristics.

Abstract: A document construction and management system is described. In one embodiment, documents are assembled by combining one or more modules. In one embodiment, the modules are combined according to one or more construction rules. The modules can be provided to a number of subscribers, each subscriber having one or more users. Access to each of the modules can be controlled on a subscriber basis and/or on a user basis based on different users or user classes. When new modules or new versions of an existing module are added to the database of available modules, access to the new module or version can be restricted until the new modules or versions have been reviewed and accepted. During the review period, the previous version of the module is made available to users for construction of documents. In one embodiment, one or more access rules are used to control which modules are available to which users. In one embodiment, search rules are provided to facilitate searching for a desired module.

Abstract: A system for processing a visual capture operation as described. The system receives an indication of a visual capture operation performed from a rendered document. The indication specifies both a text sequence capture as part of the capture operation and a supplemental marking captured as part of the capture operation. The system determines an action to perform in response to receiving the indication, based both upon the text sequence specified in the indication and the supplemental markings specified by the indication.

Abstract: A system obtains a file associated with at least one interaction that satisfies a requirement of the application. The file (containing at least one instruction) is associated with a graphical user interface allowing a user to define at least one interaction, as a use case. The system transmits at least a portion of the file to a processor for processing of the portion of the file. The processor is selected based on at least one instruction. The system transmits a result of the processing to an engine in communication with the processor. The system transmits the result from the engine to a view renderer for execution of at least one instruction (that is contained in the file associated with at least one interaction that satisfies the requirement of the application). The system receives a response at the view renderer, and transmits the response from the view renderer to the engine.

Abstract: A system, medium, and method to automatically create a dynamic image object, which can create content in image unit groups of dynamic image objects. The system may include a template selection module that selects a template from an image unit group corresponding to a desired content group that includes content, a content-arrangement module that arranges the content in the selected template, and a dynamic image object supply module that supplies a dynamic image object in which the content is arranged.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are provided for defining a metadata schema to facilitate passing data between an XML document and a hierarchical database. The invention includes a database accessor, a document accessor, and an association module. The database accessor accesses a database schema indicative of database field names and a hierarchical structure for a hierarchical database. The document accessor accesses a document schema that defines the hierarchical structure, content data syntax, and semantics of valid, well-formed, XML documents that can be passed into and out of the hierarchical database. The document schema also includes at least one XML element name that maps to a corresponding database field name in the database schema. The association module associates the database schema and the document schema to provide a metadata schema that enables data to be passed between an XML document and the hierarchical database.

Abstract: Application development is facilitated by initializing a page token in response to receiving a request. The page token comprises an abstract model component containing a specification for obtaining data designated to be sent in a response to the request or a specification for updating data obtained from the request, and also a view component for providing referential format specifications for data provided in the abstract model component. The page token is passed between at least two components of a modified model-view-controller architecture via a standard interface. Abstract: A digital frame that may be removed from its packaging, powered on, and automatically begin receiving content from remote sources via a wireless telecommunications network. The digital frame includes a communications card to enable the digital frame to receive content over a wireless telecommunications network operated by one or more telecommunications service providers. The digital frame has an associated frame address so that users may send content, such as text, images or video, directly to the frame via the telecommunications network. The address may be an SMS/MMS address, an ftp site, an email address, a website address or another type of frame address to which the purchaser or others can send content for eventual delivery to the digital frame. The purchaser is typically charged for telecommunication services provided to the digital frame.

Abstract: A printing system includes a plurality of printers, at least a first and a second of the plurality of printers printing in a first print modality. A scheduling system schedules printing of a set of pages by the plurality of printers. The set of pages, when assembled, may include pages where a high level of consistency is desired, such as facing pages or pages which are otherwise to be placed in close relationship. The scheduling system includes at least two scheduling modes, a first mode in which a consistency constraint is applied to the set of pages, and a second mode, different from the first mode, in which the consistency constraint is not applied. The printing system is configured for printing the set of pages in accordance with the first mode and in accordance with the second mode.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and device for selecting documents, such as Web pages or sites, for presentation to a user, in response to a user expression of interest, during the course of presentation to the user of a document, such as a video or audio selection, whose content varies with time. The method takes advantage of information retrieval techniques to select documents related to the portion of the temporal document in which the user has expressed interest.

Abstract: A device and method for modifying content for use on a mobile electronic device are described. In one embodiment, there is provided an automated method for modifying content for use on a mobile electronic device, comprising: selecting image files from a plurality of image files; combining the selected image files into a single merged image file that has a smaller file size than the sum of the file sizes of the selected image files; and sending the single merged image file to the mobile electronic device.

In a conversation view of a respective conversation thread, representations of an electronic voicemail message (an electronic message having a voicemail attachment), one or more chat messages and one or more email messages may be displayed simultaneously.

Abstract: The method of the present invention allows inventors to orally document innovative concepts. The method reduces the need to have inventors write out details of an invention in an invention disclosure form. The method also assists inventors in quickly and conveniently recording ideas and preparing invention disclosure forms based on the ideas. In some example forms, inventors are able to pick up a telephone and connect to a network. Once connected to the network an inventor can dictate the concepts of the idea over the network. The dictation is converted into text, such as by a voice analysis program, and then inserted into an invention disclosure form which is dated and archived.

Abstract: Participants of a medical study are notified of and perceive information related to adverse events on a toolbar. The configuration of a toolbar may be different if a serious adverse event is being presented than if an insignificant adverse event is being presented. Serious adverse events include adverse events having severity greater than insignificant adverse events, having severity greater than a predetermined threshold, requiring hospitalization, and/or being life-threatening. Insignificant adverse events include adverse events that affect patients in an unexpected manner.

Abstract: The system of the present invention allows a user to generate a representation of time-based media. The system of the present invention includes a feature extraction module for extracting features from media content. For example, the feature extraction module can detect solos in a musical performance, or can detect music, applause, speech, and the like. A formatting module formats a media representation generated by the system. The formatting module also applies feature extraction information to the representation, and formats the representation according to a representation specification. In addition, the system can include an augmented output device that generates a media representation based on the feature extraction information and the representation specification.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for transforming hierarchical information into a rowset and for transforming a rowset into hierarchical information. In transforming hierarchical information, such as an XML data file, into a rowset, a parser parses the XML data file to form an active store. A query processor, after receiving a query including a number of metaproperties, processes data from the XML active store to form a rowset. The rowset can be processed further using a query language, such as the Structured Query Language (SQL). After processing, the rowset can be converted back into an XML data file using an XML formatter. An overflow feature facilitates the addition of text data to the rowset. A fusion feature facilitates defining a relationship between different data items in the rowset such that they can be merged into a single data element as the rowset is converted into an XML data file.

For the “explicit” mode, the rowset processor transforms a rowset into an XML data stream using the explicit organizational information specified in the query.

Certain aspects provide an input control through which a user can specify an explicit scope, or range, of items, while also identifying explicit exclusions from the specified scope, thereby reducing ambiguity regarding identification of items included and items excluded from the scope. When a user explicitly selects an item for inclusion in the scope, the explicitly selected item is added to the scope definition, and all descendants of the explicitly selected item are implicitly selected for inclusion. When a user explicitly selects an item for exclusion from the scope, the explicitly selected item is added to the scope definition as an exclusion from an explicitly included item, and all descendants of the explicitly selected item are implicitly selected for exclusion.

Abstract: Methods, computer-executable instructions on computer-readable media, and systems for generating fusible signatures for information contained in two or more corpora of data. The fusible signatures can allow the information from the separate corpora of data to be merged, or fused, into a single information space that allows information analysts to explore, analyze, and/or further process the fused data. Prior to manipulation by the embodiments of the present invention, the information contained in at least one of the individual corpora of data is typically represented by initial signatures that are not directly fusible with information in the other corpora of data because of differences, for example, in dimensionality, source, data type, basis, and/or the space in which the initial signatures reside.

The modular parts may also include a document properties part containing built-in properties associated with the file format, a thumbnail part containing associated thumbnails, and a slide part containing a slide in the presentation. Each modular part is capable of being interrogated separately, extracted from the presentation, and/or reused in a different presentation.
